    1:09:50 - The third amp was given to Andy Johns (who produced the VH albums of that era). The amp was moved to a purple headshell, and given to Andy. It later was sold to Brent Woods of the band Wildside, which Andy produced in 1991, at 5150 studio.
    Someone out there owns a purple Soldano SLO head, with serial number “5150”.

    Every single show gets better and better. Mike is super outgoing. I can’t believe he doesn’t have more of a TH-cam presence! Same thing for Mr. Suhr!
    Marc/Dave: you guys are going down in the history books. You are literally chronicling the masters of our industry over the last 30 or 40 years. This stuff just doesn’t exist anywhere else. What a treasure.
    Cheers.

    The fact Dave doesn't bite his tounge and speaks his mind straight up like a man!
    Always earned SOO much respect for him from me.
    And to say l that in front of Mike when he was clearly heartbroken about it but he seems to have moved on and not held a grudge against Randall at Mesa,
    That conversation at the time stamp and on, seems to offer a little closure to Mike, Love you for that Dave, respect to you Mike cot not holding a grudge and being able to move on from it. Lots of other people might not have.
    Big respect for everyone on this show.

    Around the 2:30 mark Dave and Mike are talking about modeling vs real tube amps. I feel like what he is trying to say is a real tube amp you have to wrestle or fight, has life and breath, it has character and a unique voice, when you play or hear a tube amps in the flesh, it's electric!! For the record I've owned all the modeling gear since the original pod and just sold my axe fx III, helix, Kemper, and currently own a BE100 deluxe, Mark V 90 watt, Badlander 100, EVH 5150 III 100 Watt with the UA OX Box and I've never been happier. We live in an amazing time!! I have so much respect for these pioneers in the music business. I really did not know about Mike Soldano and his amps, I must have one...

    Just catching up and watched this one. Wow-- what a nice guy! Totally not selling anything-- makes me want to buy one of his amps.
    With all these legends, it might be nice to always cover certain basics-- where they grew up, their initial inspiration, how they got started, how they met Dave, etc.
    Mike mentioned how he worked in a body shop and learned to weld and bend metal. That's a crucial detail to how he got where he is.
    And don't be afraid to talk about old cars, etc.-- it's always interesting to hear about people's other interests and hobbies. It gives insights into what makes them tick.
    I just look at this as capturing important history for future generations. Don't want to miss any details!!
    Thanks and great job as always-
    Andy

    What an awesome hangout! Too bad I missed it live… I would have asked Mike how it came about to work with the late great Gary Moore in the early 90’s. As far as I know Gary only used the crunch channel of the SLO, but in my humble opinion, this was his best guitar tone ever. Yet again, we’re talking about Gary Moore here, he could make a crappy little gorilla amp sound amazing.

    It was great to hear you guys mention David Turner....he has been one of my best friends for the better part of 12 years. I feel like I know you guys just from all of the conversations I have had with Dave where he mentions talking to Dave Friedman and Mike Soldano. We constantly tease him about the SLO that Mike made for him with the custom face plate that we call the "Who the F8ck is David Turner" model LOLZ I have one of the rack mount SLO's from 1990 (90366) that David was gracious enough to let me have which I have carried to NUMEROUS tone shoot outs at friends houses and even to James Lugo's place when he had roughly 40 amps there and I thought mine slayed them all... :-P. Anyhow, thanks for taking the time to create this show, as now I have been listening to all the old ones and think its absolutely great you guys are doing this. Really brings back great memories and gives us a lot of insight as to the history that you all have seen and been a part of. SRV used Fender Bogner & Marshalls live together w/his hands made that tone I could see him liking a SLO. Once tracking a blues rock guitarist in studio well his amp blew up during the scratch trx & we finished w/my 5150 on the clean chn w/crunch got some of the best blues rock tone I've ever heard he was surprised he thought that was a Metal only amp. SLO's 5150's can have lots of tones if you retube w/the right tubes & know how to dial em in. Btw that guy was a SRV Clapton Hendrix fan.

    Funny hearing them talk about the feedback you get from a real tube amp. I experienced this firsthand recently. Been playing cheap amps and modelers for 25 years. Finally got my first real 2x12 all tube amp recently. It touched me in places I've never been touched before.
    They're just different though. I have the Amplitube Soldano & it's the most amazing tone I've ever gotten. But for feel, tubes rule. It's the difference between listening to a CD vs hearing the band play live. They're both great, but just two different experiences.

    The U.S. stopped printing the $1,000 bill and larger denominations by 1946, but these bills continued circulating until the Federal Reserve decided to recall them in 1969

    I use the soldano in the Axe FX III daily and I like it alot. It has helped me figure out what real amps/cabs/speakers I want to buy.

    I really like Mike Soldano's philosophy of an all tube signal path and a solid state rectifier.

    Marc, I got to thinking...after watching this for the tenth time,lol.. I thought, since I now have a plexi type amp... what or if its possible to make a plexi but contained so it would then go to a power section all in one box LOLOL. I know it kills the output tubes running max volume, but to have 'that' sound as the preamp per say.. then into a mosfet power section.. Of course, I am sure everyone has thought the same thing..
    Great vid, nonetheless.. its become my Christmas go to Tone-Talk for last couple years... being an early Soldano user, I just have a love for Mike. So this delivers fun stuff, every time I watch it.
    Peace, bruv

    Top stuff guys. Mike would be happy to know that the Fractal models are produced the same way as the IK version (pulling an amp apart and measuring components). The HBE/Be and SLO/X88 are some of my personal favourite Fractal models (and I own a real Soldano to compare them to).

    • @jspinks2388
      @jspinks2388 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not all that different pretty much a marshall with 6l6s and a significan't clipped stage. I don't know how you want to compare that to a fractal.

      Why would he be happy with someone stealing his tones and profiting from it with no kickback to the man who was able to scratch and claw his way to making a name for himself only to have someone negate all his effort by ripping his amp into a modeler making it unnecessary for anyone to think about buying the real thing anymore.
      Its a shitty as the story told in this video about mesa boogie ripping off his preamp design for the rectifier series of amps.

    • @jspinks2388
      @jspinks2388 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But then you could say it was all ripped off with Marshall and Fender...it's 100% the Cathode Follower that makes it sound the way it does...It's still different though more what they wanted to do trying all the weirder stuff with switchers, amplifying transistors etc, so no it's not exactly the same.

    • @jspinks2388
      @jspinks2388 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nooooo it's NOT the Same noneeeee of the 6l6s now are gooddd it's shit....Still can't make something close to the STR387s 0 and double 00 getter tall bottles. Find them man.

      FYI, “kickback” has a very negative connotation.

    Hi Mark & Dave. Really enjoyed the show. It’s really great to dig into the details of gear and let people stretch out and discuss thing properly. So rare in this day and age. By the way Phillip McKnight uses a company to manage t-shirts for him. He doesn’t need to hold stock and do it himself as they do all the work. Maybe you’ve seen that model but it might be a good way to go if you haven’t. 🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸🤘🏻👍🎸

    In 1991 I played the very first 2 Mesa Dual rectifier amps that arrived in Norway, one with EL34s and one with 6L6GC tubes, and it was mentioned that the preamp section was based on the SLO, and the power section like a hyped up 100 watt version of the Marshall JTM45. The dual caliber amps were virtually the SP77 preamp combined with the mark series power sections ... with some alterations

    I have the same view on amp modeling. I love my princeton 5F2A self made clone with my G12H or my oval Jensen. I never get tired of playing that setup. meanwhile.. the rp200 is in the closet.. somewhere.
