    I lay epdm in norfolk england and rain is every other day here, it doesn't always work quite the same as in the film 9/10 but least when the heavens do open up the 1 piece system makes it easy to get a roof water tight and when the weather is dry out comes the iron and rags 30mins later rubbers dry ready to stick.

    Can we extend the life of a sloped asphalt shingle roof, by covering it with some kind of material like this or something sprayed on? My only concern is that this new layer, if it ever became leaky, would trap water underneath itself.

    • @joshuabergeron5545

      Erik K duro last can be installed on steep slope roofs

    • @DJ_CMU
      @DJ_CMU 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asphalt and rubber aren't compatible, the asphalt shingles would significantly deteriorate the rubber membrane over time, if you're gonna install a rubber roof, which is more expensive than shingles, you're better off tearing the shingles off, replace any bad decking, install a nice insulation board to help with heating a cooling, then install a new Firestone 60 mil EPDM rubber roof. However, the ROI for shingles and flat roof on any pitched roof a 4/12 or steeper, shingles are the better option.

    No edge protection, no protection around roof light, walking on parapit without edge protection. And all this in an industry that saw 165 fatalities and thousands of RIDDOR events from 'falls from height' last year. Well done chaps! Lets hope nobody replicates this believing it to be a Safe Method of Working! I'd love to see the RAMS for this!

      +Steve Riddell Hey Steve,, get off the union or OSHA bullshit. There are actually men still alive who can walk on a flat roof,, talk & chew gum at the same time without wearing a safety harness or walking blindly over the edge. This isn't some 12/12 pitch they're working on,, it's a new "flat structure" with sound footing beneath. Don't let it bother you so bad buddy some people actually like the DIY methodology without paying a sub contractor three times the price for a job. This was a "technique demonstration",, not a government safety review. Remove the stick & breathe in some fresh air pal,, this was a very professional demo!

How does this product stand up to temps of below freezing? and 2. what were those boards you used in the 2nd application? I would love to add a small slope. A GREAT cold-application rubber roof. HOWEVER, I defy the average DIY homeowner to cut the rubber in a STRAIGHT LINE (for flush seams), lay the rubber completely flat without ripples, and then join the seams for a tight snug leak-proof fit. WORSE YET, I defy the Homeowner to find a competent roofer who can do the job correctly like the guys in the video.

    Thank you for your comments. Also we are highly flattered that some are using the success of the high in demand Firestone EPDM, the quickest and easiest roofing system, to advertise their GRP alternative.
    We would be very interested to hear how quickly a GRP method would need to be laid down and what issues, if any, a liquid applied roofing system would experience should a rain cloud appear? Multiple installation sequences and waiting for materials to dry are only a few of the reasons the GRP would be an inferior system to the 50+ life expectancy of Firestone EPDM.
    Firestone EPDM comes in one piece up to 12.2m x 30.5m and if you are caught off guard by a raincloud, simply roll the rubber sheet out onto your roof and use it as a temporary waterproofing membrane while you wait for the conditions to improve.
    20 year warranties are available with the Firestone EPDM and only adhesives are used, no flames. 45mins - 1 hour average installation time, it truly does speak for itself.
    Any further questions please feel free to get in touch

    We have a similar roof installed on an almost flat sunroom that has been built onto the rear of our brick-veneered home (new 2010). Unfortunately, we are experiencing (4) seperate leaks thus far everytime it pours...all (4) are very near the brick-veneer/membrane transition. The new membrane was installed just prior to the purchase of this home and we've not been able to find out who installed it? Any suggestions on "how" or "whom" could help us STOP the leaks at the transition point? Thanks.

      You are screwed ... especially if you can't find the puncture points. Even a teeny-weeny puncture can cause a leak that shows up thru the plywood / OSB decking AWAY FROM the puncture spot ... and then causes the decking to rot over a couple of years. That is exactly my pickle ... thanks to falling branches. Small punctures can be very hard to find.

    • @PermaroofOnline
      @PermaroofOnline  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheJrahhal Correct, the white is a PVA type glue called waterbased/deck adhesive used for applying the EPDM to a timber deck (OSB or Ply), the other is a contact/bonding solvent based adhesive which is applied both behind the EPDM and to the surface being bonded to which instantly grabs so you can use this around the perimeter and against upstands/vertical surfaces.

    Firestone Epdm can last a long time if done well like this, however large sheets and contact adhesives are not for Diy ers, many Diy jobs fail & its a lot of wasted money. Great product

    Why do you have to put the primer on with a scourer like thing ?

      Hi The pad is a light abrasive so it cleans any chalk that is on the epdm, allowing maximum adhesion of the Quickseam products

    This vid scares me, in terms of a flat root, I am skeptical once the heavy rains come if this will really stop the crazy leaks or not... Maybe it will....

      If done properly, it can withstand some harsh weather.

      For a short period of time it will. If this roof doesn't experience harsh winters, snow or ice, it will still last at least 10 years if not more. If it works it works, but its bad to mislead folks into thinking this is the way to do all roofs everytime. Every environment is different. I gotta deal with ice and snow, so this roof would fail miserably in Michigan.

    Nice product and work. But ur not suppose to fasten lead flashing with galvanized or aluminum fasteners. U should use copper stainless or brass nails.

    Hello,
    First of all , I need to say thank you for a great professional video. Amazing work guys.
    I see that this video was posted in 2010. Has the seam process changed since then? I would much rather see a overlap rather than butted together. I am a newbie to this project and i'd like to do my homework before I start my install. Finally, I have 2 parapet walls capped with Terracotta, every roof i look at has the membrane going up as far as they can. I fear water might make its way behind the epdm membrane. Am I being paranoid or should that beautiful terracotta be ripped off and wrap the membrane all around the parapet wall ?
    Thank you,
    Al
