That documentary showed Barnier and Verhofstadt were going to use Ireland to batter us. She said no deal was better than a bad deal, but in the end caved in. Boris came in fighting from the start and Labour knows he will wipe the floor with them when the election comes if he can hang on in power. This stupidly stubborn wrecking business is the only power these idiots will taste in a long while they will be in the wilderness for years. The loony left after Kinnock had a go at them and new labour got in have now gained control over the Labour party. Labour now is the loony party even Starmer's first comment was "my father was a toolmaker" he is so proud he never went to Eton.

@@M896 Odd, Merkel has just said this past week that an independent United Kingdom would be a major competitor to the EU... it's no wonder the EU doesn't want us to leave is it? What the likes of Farage and Boris have been saying seems to be true, out of the EU our economy would thrive...seems Germany now gets it after months of European economists warning a no deal would harm the EU more than the UK, if only remoaners would wake up and smell the coffee.
The EU is teetering on the brink of a giant recession, that's why the don't want us to leave, that's why they've made it so difficult, because if get out come the next recession nations will be dropping out left right and centre, Italy, Greece and Spain would most likely vote out, given they have been ruined by EU austerity measures. Once Germany starts their economic cushion to protect it from going totally under, those countries peoples will be screaming for a referendum to leave...given Germany has been the puppet master behind the measures put on those countries after they crashed in 08/09, I can't see that going down all to well, especially given those countries are already struggling financially with the burden of refugees and migrants Merkel invited.
What was it she called a free Great Britain, ah that was it a Singapore on Thames, on the EU's doorstep.
If she's worried about that surely it gives credit to the leaves campaigns so called "lies".

@@M896 One major difference though of course is about NI borders. I don't know how BoJo eventually came up with the idea of turning the entire region to a 'preclearance zone' like, the most famously, major Canadian airports' 'American terminals', which is implemented in Ireland's Shannon airport too (which made me guess whether it's what the Irish PM suggested during the garden meeting), and the Eurostar terminal in London, which hopefully BoJo himself knows. That arrangement, given the complex nature of the Irish issues, I have to admit, is pretty innovative.

Ultimately it came down to her not sharing the "vision" behind Brexit and thus making too many compromises with EU to satisfy anyone.

She did not have numbers on her side. Her own MPs had rebelled very early on. She could not have delivered, because rebels, and opposition parties just won't back it. Now when Boris has become PM, the situation is different. Most likely, one of the EU leaders will veto the extension required under Benn Act. Boris is in a win win situation. If they reject extension request, opposition will have no option to do anything. Either they accept Boris deal, or we crash out of EU on 31 Oct. If somehow EC agrees to extension till Jan 31, then surely we will have a general election well before that. Boris will be a Brexit hero in the election, and labour will be people's enemy. Why is everyone saying that they wished that she was like this when she was a PM? SHE WAS LIKE THIS AS A PM, but she was shot down, bullied at and blamed for. At times I feel sorry for Theresa, it must have been such a stressful and exhausting job, trying to get the best deal against 27 nations, have it voted down 3 times, and blamed for bringing ‘a bad deal’. Any deal proposed is never gonna be perfect, and these so called groups claiming that they themselves would have gotten a better deal if they negotiated was absolute trash. She did the best that she could, and now look at the situation we’re in with, a new deal barely different to what she had proposed. I don’t blame her for being angry, and being upset when she had to put her hand up and resigned. But seeing her in the backbenches now, I’m glad and hopeful that she feels a lot better and happy that she no longer has to carry the burdens of this Brexit mess.
