- Galactic Contention is a Star Wars mod for Squad, and it's without a doubt the best way to experience Star Wars in gaming. The mod went away for a bit while they updated it to be compatible with the latest Squad update, but now it's back, and this gameplay should highlight just how impressive and fun it really is. Crazy to think this whole mod is completely free.

@@alexm589you just go to the workshop, type in galactic contention and download it. Its beyond simple. Once its finished, go in game and just type in GC or galactic contention and the servers should pop up

The developers of this mod managed to capture the magic of star wars battles better than any AAA developers could have possibly dreamed. I'm genuinely stunned at how awesome this mod looks and how well it plays. All of the detail they managed to include is just nuts.
This is a true gem within the modern gaming industry and big studios should be embarassed that they've failed to create anything as cool as this.

Squad stock game chokes so hard and the worst part is the LODs turn camo into unseeable mush which is awful for a game, while the star wars models are all designed to stand out in their unique ways it plays so much better, and you cannot see bullet impacts in squad either.. vehicles in star wars battlefront also are as jank as they are here and don't look out of place lagging everywhere, squad has always been a terrible game vs project reality but mods like this make everything visible again and leverage UE to it's best rather than the standard squad being feature map slop that is just constant running around following map meta, games need constraints like star wars where red team has red bullets and blue team has blue bullets and so on

I totally disagree with you but I'm one of those players that would rather they ENTIRELY lean into the realism than away from it. The ICO is amazing in my opinion and I would love them to add even more vehicles such as attack helicopters with MANPADs as counters.
Go hard or go home when it comes to milsim.
My number one wishlist feature would be a default voice changer added to the droid side making them sound like well... droids.
And everyone on the Republic side doing their best NZ accents

YES! I feel GC had a really good balance before. Just played it after the recent recook and holy sh*t, it feels exactly like playing Squad w/ ICO but with Star Wars skins.
This is what people wanted with Battlefront. No bullshit, overpowered heroes, just infantry combat with vehicles on some maps.

Theres weather changes, time mode changes, night vision, and if you press shift+7 as a clone you get a neat thing.

@@TommyCubedA lot of us dont play Squad outside of Galactic Contention, so we wouldnt have known unless we checked the game or the GC Discord server
They should consider adding the clone grunts sound effects from the 04-05 battlefront, just to diversify the a bit cus it sounds hilarious otherwise

Plqyed this mod for the first time today and had the exact same experiwnce as you in skirmish. The same map the same "HUAAAGH" sounds and a guy blasting droid covers

Offworld needs to hire the devs of this mod and get a license from Disney to make this into a separate game. Kinda like how Starship Troopers: Extermination is a fork of Squad
GC just feels and plays like Squad + ICO w/ Star Wars skins and levels now.
Crazy how the best starwars games recently aren't even stand alone games but mods for games like squad and Insurgency. EA needs to step their shit up and actually make a game not drowned in micro transactions

People always say, "why is the Stormtrooper Armor so useless"?. its not, its for debris not having to worrry about Small flying peices of metal or rocks killing you is a huge advantage.

cool vid but would've felt better if you had learned about what they updated in this patch, or even the mod in general. Lots of questions and decisions you made that are just general knowledge (how the gl works, why you didn't kill the commando, how droids and vics work and whatnot.) Just feel like you could've showcased more. Also do you ever play with your squad?

@@slorgs Maybe its just the accent. 😅 I also haven't watched Jack in quite some time. I had to go compare and I can tell the difference, its pretty distinct side by side.
I personally think me and jack sound completely different but one of the most common comments I get is people saying we sound exactly the same. The dream is one day me and jack do a video together and then we'll finally have the definitive answer

EDIT: so this mod have animation for entering vehicles but Squad and most other games including Battlefield series dont.... 🙄LAZY DEVS
having vehicle entering/exiting animation will add to gameplay mechanics and immersion
