    Great info thanks, how come you dont use the numbers on the rear sight? Can you explain the rear leaf numbers.

      it’s for the hundred meters, so 1 would be 100 and 8 would be 8 hundred, but by then you would be wishing for a hit

      Ok, i covered this in previous videos - this "25 yds express method" is to get you quickly on target from 25 to 300yds, but this is not tect book method to zero AK...AK irons are in meters not yards and the best way to zero AK is to do it from 100 meters (again, covered in previous videos). Problem is, ranges in USA often don't offer 100m range...

      Also, the farthest back stop is what is referred to as 'battle sight'; the default setting which will.allow hits on a man-size target out to 300 meters with a properly zeroed rifle.It also happens to correspond to the 300m setting further up the sight ladder.

      At 61 years old, my iron sight shooting days are over. Even with optics, the rear sight is not clear. I was retired from the military when I realized our drill sergeants were teaching us bad techniques. They had us place our noses on the charging handle to get our eyes closer to the rear sight. That might work for someone who is near sighted, but I am farsighted, so the M16 front sight post was swimming around in a way too large circle. In 1981, I had difficulty shooting well at the age of 19. As the years rolled on, it became harder and harder to score well. I probably improved many shooting fundamentals, but didn’t understand that I was too close to the rear sight for effective shots. Add to that then learning that I am right handed, but left eye dominant, and it becomes obvious that I was doing the visual parts wrong. As an Army maintenance soldier, we didn’t shoot very often and the range personnel were interested in processing everyone through and off the range. If you are not combat arms the Army doesn’t spend the time and money to develop all of their troops to excellence. I can remember qualifying with a styrofoam coffee cup full of bullets on about a quarter of the trips we made to the rifle range. Most range sessions were conducted with one or two hundred soldiers and only a quarter to one third of a day. You must shoot a lot, and often to gain proper proficiency with your weapons. What a waste of time! The USMC is just the opposite, and demands the best from every Marine. Penny wise, dollar foolish. Your tax dollars at work. 😮

  • @iwillnotcomply007

    I like the acronym FORS, for adjusting sights. Front - opposite, Rear - same.
    For example, If you want to move impact to left, move front sight right (opposite). If you want to move impact up, move rear sight up (same).
    This acronym has always helped me and works well when teaching new or young shooters.

    • @iwillnotcomply007
      @iwillnotcomply007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mike Bastiat, the acronym is just a way to remember how to achieve your goal. If you only have one sight that can be adjusted, then you have to adjust that one obviously - but the rule still applies. A rear sight moves the direction you want the impact to move, while the front sight moves opposite of what you want the impact to move. FYI, some AKs do in fact have a windage adjustment on the rear sight. RPK style AKs commonly have a windage adjustment on the rear sight. Many people will even swap out a rear sight for a RPK rear sight to get an easier windage adjustment. AKs also have elevation adjustments on the front and rear.

      @@MyDouble AR 36 yard zero and AK (x39) 36 yard zero are 2 different things. Plug your info into a ballistic calculator that gives you a chart and you'll get accurate numbers for your goal. The best thing about using an AK is that once you've got things set up at an "acceptable" level, that is exactly the level that it was intended to be at the highest point. That way, you can have confidence you aren't doing anything wrong, it's just the way the rifle and ammo is.

  • @SAMFICOM
    @SAMFICOM ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Based on AK47 manual (year 1949) : With 7.9g (122grain) 700m/s (2296 f/s). Zeroing is performed by shooting 4 of 4 shots from stable prone position with point of aim at the same level as shooter with rear sight set to position "3" (300m) at 100m distance positioned target. Average point of impact must be 28cm (11 inch) higher than point of aim with settings above. When zeroed on 3 then rear site moved to position П or P or S or etc. (depending on country of origin), you shoild be able to hit man size target aiming at the belt from 0m to 300m. From AKM manual (modernized ak47) (year 2015) procedure is similar but load is 7.9g(122 grain) at 715m/s (2346 f/s) at 100m target using position 3 (300m) average centr point of impact must be not 28cm but 25cm (9.84 inch) above point of aim. When zeroed correctly on position 3 and then used with rear most setting "П", "P", etc.. you expect at 50m have 13cm impacts above aim point, 100m + 25cm, 150m +31cm, 200m +30cm, 250m +20cm, 300m +0cm, 350m -31cm. Same logic - on "П" aim at the belt for up to 300m shots. Also if at 100m from stable prone position you canno put 4 of 4 shots within 15cm circle rifle is counted as inacurate and need to be repaired by gunsmith. Max deviation of group center from desired impact point must be not more than 5cm. Ideal zero temperature +15. Air presure - about sea level. When above zeroing is completed, it is expected for settings 1 (100m), 2 (200m) etc. point of impact to match point of aim in case ammo you are using corresponds to ammo spec used for zeroing - 7.9g (122grain) @ 700m/s for AK 47 and 7.9g (122grain) @ 715m/s for AKM models. Hope this is helpful.

  • @POGIAKO62

    i tried this method last week on my Burris 5x Prism sight with my Galil ACE SAR 7.62x39, started at 25 yards until i hit the perfect hit on bull's eye. Then tried it at 200 yards right away and i hit 18 out of 20 on a 10" steel plate. A while ago i tried it on my new Zastava M70 AK-47 using iron sight. i have a bad eyesight and need a new prescription glasses because i could not see the steel plate at 200 yards. i tried to put paper target, i hit the center mass but the grouping was not as good as my Galil with 5x Prism scope. But i am satisfied because this trick works on my both rifles, using iron sight and 5x prism scope.

    Anyone seen the film Pulp Fiction, and the part where some dude that was hiding out in a back room unloads his big ass revolver on the two characters from close range and completely misses? I feel like that’s the common misconception by the public in regards to the accuracy of the AK. I love dispelling that myth at the range. :)

      SonOfTheDawn515 Word on the propaganda. And yet on that same token...I acknowledge that the design intent of the AK being so simple an illiterate conscripted commie peasant can learn the platform is a great strength. I’m not a professional soldier with years of training. I appreciate something built that is so functional and simple that it’s incredibly difficult to make it stop working. And it just so happens that it has great inherent combat accuracy. Yeah give me that one please. To each their own.

    Great video but I still believe and have found the easiest and quickest was the Black heart International 14 meter AK zero target. And it had the instructions right on the target itself on what to do if the group is in that corner or section of the target and how to return it to the center.
    Lots of ways to skin a cat still.
    Thanks for posting this.

      Rudolf, problem with commercial ranges in US is, you usually have: 5yds, 10yds, 25yds, 50yds and 100yds only...

    • @prdubi
      @prdubi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AkOperatorsUnion then you adopt and improvise. 14 meters is 15 yards.and while many would think 10 yards would and won't much of a difference, I've sadly found that it does with something as finicky as the AK series. The next problem is I encounter is basically why I like the blackheart system setup. It tells you exactly which way to turn the front site or which way to adjust windage when your group pattern is in a certain area of the target. All I have seen is this. Bang bang bang..look at target...make adjustment....bang bang bang..WTH? It's not on target...bang bang bang...still not on target. Adjust opposite direction...bang bang bang ..back to small area of target. And finally they make either the right or wrong adjustment again.
      Maybe I am just lucky and I encounter low IQ students a lot. But I like targets with instructions on WTH to do when a group is in that section of the target.
      But your right. I'm gonna go to the range and test out the BH target at 15 yards and 25 yards and see if it makes a difference.

    So a 25 yard/Meter zero with POA/POI will correspond with the same POA/POI at 200 yards/Meters with unchanged rear sight setting out of a 16 inch barreled rifle firing 7.62x39mm?
    So if you wanted to use the graduated rear sight settings over the battle sight zero with this method, it would make sense to use the 2 for 200 meters setting if zeroing the rifle at 25 yards/meters? Because that's what it looks like to me. Excellent video as always, Rob Ski! :D

    I've found right settings on ballistic calculator to imitate bullet drop table from soviet AKM manual. *7.9 grams 715 m/s (122gr 2346 ft/s)*.
    You could zero it on sight setting "2"=200 m at 24 yd (22 m), POA=POI. It should make leaf sight fully functional.

    I have shot AR’s my entire life. Thought I’d treat myself to something different and nice. I purchased a PSA GF5 -E with all the bells and whistles $1,400 after tax. The PSA would shoot basically 1” groups at 25 yards and 1.5-2” at 50. Going to 100 yards off bags and holding the best I could, I had about a 5” average with iron sights. I was really hoping for a bit better. Down the road, I may try different ammo but currently I am sitting on 800 rounds of Igman brass cass ammo. I’d love to see that 100 yard ground shrink down for the money spent. Thoughts?
