      Generally it’s not because of the higher quality camera. The key to seeing the vapor trail of a bullet (through spotting scope or camera) is to take it just a micro smidge out of focus. The object you’re sitting at shouldn’t be crystal clear but just ever so slight hazy.

      It's a heat trail. Similar to what spotters see through their scopes. I only know this because of the old history Channel documentary about the Army's sniper school.

    Rob, I'm loving this channel and these videos! I think the 300 meter target would have been a good spot for a conversation about mechanical limitations of a non-precision Rifle/Ammo and how your 2-3MOA rifle will naturally disperse rounds at that distance and how it shows up on the steel. It might help those who don't understand that they may get x (insert #) inches or more of dispersion at that distance and it has absolutely nothing to do with what they are doing on their end. I've been following you since the beginning and my original AKOU shirt is still worn around the house. I appreciate what you do!

    • @talltale9760

      Ak was designed and intended for 300m on human size target so I'd say this performance and zero is good to go.

    • @danielgreen6547
      @danielgreen6547 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@talltale9760 That might be so, but most shooters in the States don't even have consistent access to ranges beyond 300 yards.

    • @VxNemesis
      @VxNemesis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the shooter disperses more than the rifle, at least if it's a good rifle with good ammo.
      ak-103 with russian military or barnaul ammo is between 1 and 1.5 moa, the wind and the shooter have a much bigger impact at 300 than the rifle/ammo combo.

    • @Atravis02
      @Atravis02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@VxNemesis I’ll agree that most rifles are more capable than their shooters.
      Do you have any good data to point to about the 1-1.5MOA claim that I can read? I find that highly unlikely and in my experience 2-4 MOA is more much realistic.
      I only have anecdotal evidence and can’t point you to hard data except my own experience but with that disclaimer I’ll share my thoughts.
      I own SGL’s, Arsenals, etc and routinely shoot out to 500 meters (not claiming consistent hits) with my AKs on man sized steel and I’m very dubious of any 1 MOA claim for an 7.62 AK with factory ammo.
      Now, the argument could be made as to my ability as a shooter but I have competed with good results and feel comfortable enough in my ability and knowledge to join the discussion but I am willing to learn what I don’t know.
      If you read some of the other comments on this video you may see that people think that impacting dead center at 300 with a 2-4MOA combat rifle (vs neck or belt line) is attributed more to skill than just the luck of what is essentially a 6-12” beaten zone you’ll understand the intent of my comment. Now of course the skill of the shooter lies in consistent sight alignment, sight picture, and firing the weapon without imparting movement. I’m talking about the inherent dispersion of the rounds and assuming the shooter is not a variable in this conversation.
      I think Rob could make a great educational video discussing MOA, how tolerances work and their effect on accuracy…etc. I believe if some of his audience had a better understanding it would show what he does is even more impressive than they thought.

    Got behind on Robs uploads, so I'm catching up today. I really appreciate the time Mr and Mrs Robski put into the channel !! I bought a Primary Arms Gen 3, 3x Prism optic (from AKOU store) and mounted it on my Galil Ace 7.62x39 rifle. Life has a way of changing priorities, so I have not had the time to sight it in. 25 yards is where I always start, with any optic, so this is just another video from Rob that fits perfectly ! The range I use at present has 25, 50, and 100 yard set targets. Minute of man, vs. MOA is my primary concern using bulk ammo (vs. my hunting handloads) Should be good to go once I can GET TO THE RANGE! Thanks Rob, for everything 👍👍

    Thank you. Just what I needed. Wonder if you could have a guest on to discuss changes in eyesight after cataract surgery and how that might affect targeting and red dot, scope setup. I would think other "old timers" might have similar issues and it's rarely discussed online.
    After dual cataract surgery my parallax changed no longer allowing me to sight with both eyes. My solution was a Primary Arms 2.5 ACSS w/diopter prism red dot for use on my Kalashnikov-USA Vitayz, Romanian AK-47, and test on my Kalashnikov Saiga-12. It works perfectly for me, allowing targeting with both eyes open and stay cognizant of my surroundings. Because it has an incredible eye relief, I can use it both as a 1x and 2.5x interchangeably with no adjustments. A diopter is a must and the ACCS adds to accuracy at almost every distance and weather condition.
    Helpful resources to improve targeting: 1) The US Army "Rifle and Carbine" technical manual, May 2016, doc TC 3-22.9 [+ w/lots of info for CQB and competition], and 2) US Army Reserve Marksman, "Improving Rifle Zero Ranges". FY 2019 2nd Quarter. Search for both as PDF files. They are easily found and I was afraid TH-cam would delete the actual links.
