Romanian guy here. Had used two AKMs, standard 7.62x39mm in military service - one in bootcamp and one in my combat engineer battalion. The first one was manufactured in 1964 (!!!), the second one was from 1985. There was no difference between them in yhe quality of woodwork or metalwork. Both fired great; I never had jams or other problems with them (of course, we cleaned them every day, even when we have not shoot with them). We also cleaned the magazines every day and we were told to be careful with them, not to drop them or anything. We didn't have to worry about the ammo, that was issued to us on range or when we were on guard duty. We shoot quite a lot, since there was a lot of ammo that had to be disposed of, so we shot quite old ammo, but it never misfired (being properly stored into an Army ammo dump helps a lot...). So what I'm trying to say is that I saw a lot of people saying that the quality of romanian AKs is not good, so maybe the producer (Cugir plant) or the importer are doing something wrong, or anything like that? As I sad, I used two rifles, old and used by other soldiers before me, and their performance was beyond satisfactory. P.S. And don't get me started on the accuracy issue, I only say this - it's not the gun, but the man that uses it. P.P.S. English is not my natve language, but I hope I'm inteligiblle. P.P.P.S. What kind of bayonet is that?!? It should have saw teeth on the other side!
WASRS get a bad rap because they were hastily made with rejected QC parts these weren't on Romanian military issued rifles. They have since gotten better over the years. Mine had misaligned sights, overly tight rivets, and a poor metal finish.
Hello Dan Dondera. I own a Cugir made AKM, which is very well made. When I bought the Cugir the front sight was dead centre, the gas tube was straight and wood to metal fit very good, as is overall build quality. On the range the AKM is accurate, and always attracts attention.
The first rifle that I ever shot, was a Marlin model 60, that second one was an M16A1. The first rifle that I ever bought was an AK47, I still have it.
Love mine. I lost a trigger axis pin on my second outing. Fucking paper clip. Got the retaining plate, no problems. The wood feels like pine(?!) I got the surplus Russian Red laminate wood from the AKOU store and it looks great! I needed to shape it to fit my WASR with a Dremel tool, it was no big deal.
I like my wasr. Put a few thousand rounds through it over the years that I’ve had it and not a single problem. Canted front sight, but it’s not bad enough to worry with. I was surprised with the accuracy of the rifle.

Excuse my asking, but why are AKs not allowed in Austria? You have hammer and sickle added to your national coat of arms but the most iconic Russian gun ever is banned? Where is the logic?
@@A.Flemming Basically, because even the semi auto variant is mechanically too similar to the fully automatic version. Government believes that it's too easy to convert them to full auto, and that everybody would do just that, if AKs were legal, not caring that fully automatic weapons are banned anyway. All we're allowed to have, regarding AK or AK-like rifles, is something like the Inter Ordonance R94, which is bolt action only (no gas piston and no gas port etc.). Thanks rob, great video. Picked up my psa “moekov” gf3 yesterday. Really excited to get some rounds on it. Dont need the extractor often, but there is nothing else that will really work in the field if you dont have it and it can ruin your day.
Jim Beam so, name me a single manufacturer that has never had an issue of some kind. That retainer pin is an extremely minor situation and rob showing that it COULD happen just means you watch for it.
Jim Beam again, name me ONE manufacturer that hasnt had some kind of issue in the past. And how do you know the hole is oversized? Do you even know how the pins are held in?
Jim Beam still havent heard you name a single manufacturer that hasnt had some kind of issue. I didnt excuse anything. It was a valid issue. Still isnt as bad as your “military grade” ak’s that have had canted sights, split receivers, cracked trunions, or any number of other issues. If a pin needs to be removed, hit with a hammer to flatten it slightly, and then reinstall it, id take that over any of the other issues i just listed.
Jim Beam im not in the military and dont need a “military grade” rifle, and id bet you dont either. How about you quit being an elitist rifle snob just because you like paying for a rifle that is years above your ability just so you can look down on somebody else just to give them grief. I know my budget and prefer to spend money on the rifle i “need” so i can get other equipment. Most of us are just more frugal. Besides, the only thing ive heard you complain about the psa rifles so far is the retaining pin. A zero dollar, 5 minute fix and you want to get hung up on it.
I think you are right about having more than one. Love the concept of not just a Scout, but a classic with bayonet and nice wood, maybe a 12 and a 308. A pistol. Would make for a lovely shooters group!
I'm glad I found your videos 3 years ago I bought a c39v2 I remember you were doing the testing and talking about how it was good so far you hadn't gone that far into it the testing. All over me all they sold was c39v2 every store carried them so that was my only option but once I got it I got busy with work and never used it last month I sold it for $800 and ordered a Wasr comes in Tuesday and I bought some of the stuff you suggested us I am honestly excited to start modding it out and taking it to the range. Also really glad I looked up the c39v2 end review lol or else I would of kept it and well lost money on that AK.
WASR underfolder. I put in an ALG trigger group, BD2 muzzle brake, cheesegrater gas tube cover, and Molot grip (I like the shape better). Bolt hold open followers in my mags.
A bucket of hot water and purple power and a bottle brush for cosmoline filled mags. Strip rifle completely down and spray out with brake cleaner and then clean and lubricate for new rifle.
@Jim Beam Well I have my pass- port But they ended up down the street from me in the U.S .. no memo needed just good rifle and folk not mad over the 74. Me and my friends will be ok. Have fun bro. Troll on somewhere else. :)
Just got a wasr after watching this channel. Glad u put this up. I also used your inspection video before I purchased mine. My wasr only has one bad rivet on the trigger guard which sucks but I didnt want to wait to have it sent back after I already had to wait 3 weeks. Now I'm in the 10 California "cool off" period.
I plan on building one from a Romanian parts kit or an RPK parts kit. However right now I found some norinco 7.62x39 steel core for sale still in crates, $360 for 1200 rounds. A nice collectors peice that will fetch a nice price in a year or two.
I know you've probably heard this before Robski, if you can stretch a spring, it's no longer a spring. Sure, it will work temporarily, but once it sits loaded for a short time, you're back to the same problem. A spring with proper temper won't stretch. If you can stretch it, you should replace it. Springs are cheap. Replace them every couple of years.
Try out a bottle of engine assembly lube on some of your newer guns. Its made specifically to reduce premature wear on metal engine parts. It sticks to metal and keeps the lubrication where its supposed to be. Works well for me, and you dont need to use much. Perfect for an ak range bag.
I got a wasr and stained the wood. The grip is way too small for me so I replaced it, which led to me needing to replace the grip nut because they switched from real metal to trash plastic with a metal tube in it and it immediately broke. Also put in a trigger group retaining plate.
Why do some of the front sight posts are not centered some are either too far right or left ? I’ve got a waser the trunion is dated 1974 is it better than the newer ones ?

Jim Beam go ahead and keep beating that dead horse. Im still waiting for the name of a single manufacturer that has never had an issue, of some kind.
Awesome, concentrated practical knowledge
Great channel, thank you for doing it.
Just ordered my first ak, a PSA GF3 with black polymer furniture. Already got the ak started kit from you, and 4 Bulgarian mags.
ALWAYS REPLACE the "Shepards Crook" on the trigger controls. Only "Flaw" in AKs
Preferably a double hook hammer
Whoever dropped the dislike,is no longer an Ak operator. 7.62x hooligan 4 life woooo. Ma said get safe. Enjoy rifle. Rifle is fine.
@Jim Beam Well I have my pass- port But they ended up down the street from me in the U.S .. no memo needed just good rifle and folk not mad over the 74. Me and my friends will be ok. Have fun bro. Troll on somewhere else. :)
I love the bullshit talk too! Bardzo pouczająca prezentacja dla nowych właścicieli.
Just ordered some stuff from the site. Thank you
Just got a wasr after watching this channel.
Great video. Love AK's. Never had a firearm that shot whatever I put in it. Amazing.
Thanks for the great reviews, your vids have helped me understand the AK and become an owner
Love your videos Rob.. Keep doing what you are doing.
Awesome video. Great for new AK shooters and an nice refresher for us older Union members!
I just got an AK. Running it monthly at Wolverine Wednesday
Rob, great videos and great information. Keep them coming! You're my go to guy for AK advice and tips.
Kalash 4 life!!!
Or equivalent If you can't find/afford
Try out a bottle of engine assembly lube on some of your newer guns. Its made specifically to reduce premature wear on metal engine parts. It sticks to metal and keeps the lubrication where its supposed to be. Works well for me, and you dont need to use much. Perfect for an ak range bag.
Hey Rob, could you possibly do a video on muzzle devices that still allow you to mount the bayonet? Please!
Another cheap but very effective option for a brake is midwest industries 2 port just beware it carries a punch if on the side
Just got a psa gf3 thanks for your reviews
I use a canis m4 adapter on the mak90 and I use a meridian defense btka rivet in rear m4 stock adapter. The rivet in one is best in my opinion.
Man, I wanted Tractor Bob back, he got me laughing from VZ58 vid. Great info vid for new owners, pimp that AK.
Absolutely covered in cosmonauts.
I have a bunk C39V2. It works. Its garbage, but it works. It'll serve well as a beater gun. I plan to get an SLR107 and a few parts kits in the future
Wasr 10
Best entry level AK platform their is..
Forged components where it matters and a chrome lined barrel.
Mine ain't been getting much love lately.
Way off topic kinda for the rest of my post.
Got a Gordon tech SLR 100H I recently acquired in trade for ww2 bring back walther may 44 production g43, I bought at a yard sale for 275 bucks.
Owner said it didnt work since the mid 90,s and him and his father shot it all the time.
2 days spent cleaning the seized up never cleaned gas system. Ran 10 8mm rounds thru it fast as I could squeeze em off.
Advertised it for trade for certain hunting rifles plus boot
And put Arsenal Ak platforms considered????
30 mins after i posted ad I got a call from a retired INTRAC guy.
Went to Knoxville the next morning.

Shook hands
Both of us happy as fugg......

Spent 24 yrs in the Infantry and retired in 2008
ROBSKI! I always learn at least one new thing watching these. And I am not an AK - FNG.
Oh best advice ever.... Have more than one AK!
I use alg hammer springs also the regular ones not extra power.
Carolina firearms sells a kit that has pin spring and extractor.
