  • Growing Zinnias in Scotland / Zone 8b. Zinnias are a heat loving flower which makes them hard to grow in cooler, wet climates such as Scotland but you can have some success. In this video I look at seed sowing and pinching out and will follow it up with a video in September when the flowers are in bloom and getting harvested.

That’s interesting that sowing that late worked well and direct sowing too. I am trying a totally different approach this year and sowing them really early as our best weather was June last year and following that it was just a really wet cool summer that the zinnias did not like at all.

Thanks so much for watching. I am glad you enjoyed it and hopefully the pinching out will help you get some great flowers next year.

These videos are always so informative! I'm new to growing zinnias from seed so all of this is great info for me 👍 I always wonder how people get beautiful lush zinnias. I've never been able to get them to look like that, but now I will, thank you ❤️

I'm in central Alberta, a 3b/4 zone. Zinnias grow well here.

Hi, thanks for watching 🙂 That’s interesting to know that zinnias do well for you in Alberta. What time of year do you start your zinnia seeds off? Do you have a fairly short growing season?

Catherine, daft question. What if you got rooting powder and replanted the part that you snipped out, would it work? I'm by far no expert lol. 😊

Definitely not a daft question! When I was pinching them out I normally would have done just that to try and get some new plants rooting but I am going away for a couple of weeks so they would never have survived without being looked after and kept moist. Let me know how you get on if you try it!
