  • This video will show you how I grow Zinnias, the super easy flower to simply grow from seeds. This is a fun gardening project for beginners who are starting a cut flower garden.
    #zinniaflower
    Hi! My name is Crane. Welcome to my Suburban home garden in New Jersey Zone 7A. I mainly grow cut flowers, greens, and herbs and make garden bouquets to sell at my roadside stand. I create sanctuary for wildlife, birds, insects, etc. I grow all kinds of vegetables and, sometimes, cook. I grow ornamental landscape plants and trees as well. Thank very much for visiting my channel. Any question, please let me know in the comment. 😊

    Nice video! I like how you show the entire journey of your zinnia's life. Zinnias are awesome because they love the heat (which we have way too much of here in norcal😄). We can just throw them on the ground and water them in and voila! Lovely flowers! It will be exciting to see what your hybridized zinnias produce next year. I'm looking forward to that!

    • @cranerygardens

      Hi! You’re very welcome! 🥰✌🏻I think they are all the same. I find that the more space zinnias have, the more airflow in between each plant will help mitigate the powdery mildew. 😊🥰❤️

    I loved this video! Thank you for taking the time to teach us. I’m a new follower from Danielle’s recommendation last week. I’m so thankful she shared your channel.
    I am thankful to have a 1300 sq ft fenced area to get a vegetable and cut flower garden going. It used to be a horse paddock so I bet the soil will be rich. Over the years, I’ve planted flowers in the landscape but never grew them for the purpose of cut flowers. This video showed how easy and rewarding growing zinnias can be. Who knows, maybe next year I will have a roadside stand also? I’m seriously considering it. 🤔 ❤

    Hello Crane ....Your videos always make me feel good! I also collect many varieties of seeds from my garden, and it definitely is a lot of work. But, instead of collecting a few at a time, I cut off entire branches or whole flowers and let them dry on a piece of newspaper in my house, then remove/separate the seeds on a cold winter day when my garden is asleep. Please continue to spread so much joy with your videos!

    Hi there. I love your channel. I am also a Northlawn flower farm subscriber and learned of your channel through her. Your cottage style garden is so inspiring. I live in Toronto, Canada and am in the process of planting many 2 gallon shrubs on my property i.e. firelight hydrangea, lilac, golden mockorange, ruby summersweet etc. When you moved to your property were all those shrubs there or did you plant them yourself. I would love for my shrubs to get established quickly. I have dense hard clay soil. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Great job ,I love zinnias. I grow them every year, I like the butterflies they attract. Powdery mildew is an issue with zinnias, Have you tried mildew resistant varieties like Forecast or State fair? I love Forecast zinnia because they grow tall, attract pollinators and are pretty disease resistant. When you breed you zinnias try to breed the most strongest,healthiest,free of mildew with each other to produce a mildew resistant strain.

      about half half. I use my own compose mostly for vegetable because I am 100% sure it's safe. I buy compost for my cut flower production garden because I need a lot. Making compost is very easy. You only let them sit there and rot/digest by the little guys (insects) and beneficial bacteria fungi. People show complicated things because they are showing us how to accelerate the process. I don't go through that. Haha.

    Hi...you said you put the Zinnia babies in an unheated greenhouse. Do you watch the temp to make sure there arent any very cold nights?

    • @cranerygardens
      @cranerygardens  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Definitely! I won’t move them to the greenhouse if there’s forecast indicating any chance of frost in the next 7 days. 😊🥰❤️

      @cranerygardens ok great... I have a newly renovated greenhouse that I am trying to learn house to use. It's not as big as yours but unless it's heated the night temps go down to the outside temp for sure

    The zinnias I direct sowed back in May are spend and were pulled out over the weekend. I did direct sow some seeds in June and July and while they are covered in powdery mildew they're still blooming.
