A magnet with a fin might make a good rudder, then it’d be easily adjustable
This video could be reduced to 5 minutes with the same charming result. A rudder is a must. The heat exchanger is the key component, its construction was not shown.

When I was a kid, maybe 7 or 8 years old, back in the mid 50's, my father gave me as a present one of those. I believe it was made in China and I spend hours playing with it.
This is the fist time I see one since them, around 60 years ago.

Tenho 76 anos. Quando tinha 10 anos montei um semelhante usando um barquinho usado e lata de Vick vaporub como caldeira e usei araldite para vedar. Uma bela lembrança de infância.
Já existiam Vick Vaporoub e Araldite há 66 anos?

Indeed that is a great memory! I didn't make one but somebody gave me a store bought one and you poured water in the top of the cab and it used a stick match to boil the water. I'm 73 and we had simple toys and had plenty of fun with them.

Que maravilha, nota dez. Quando era criança vi um barquinho desses que locomoviam com um foguinho dentro, nunca soube como funcionava. Achei tão interessante que nunca o esqueci.
Custo do barquinho 5 mil reais.
Equipamento utilizado para sua industrialização 22 mil reais.
Brincadeira é claro.
Já se foram uns 60 anos.
Voltei no tempo, senti a felicidade dos brinquedos e da pureza daquela distante época.

En 1978 mi profesor de física construyó un barquito de vapor, fue fascinante para todos los esudiantes que estabamos presentes.

I love it, took me back 70 plus years, but a keel down the center of the bottom would have assisted the boat to go in a straighter line. Played in our local creek with mine, way back in the lats 40's and the very early 50's

In Argentina these vessels were sold with the commercial name of "lanchita POF POF" in the 50´s and beginning of the 60´s. Thanks, I am going to do one for me! Note: the vessel lacks the steer! The originals had a metal steer! Tnanks for posting it!
Acá en Guadalajara jal, México , en un tianguis llamada baratillo yo veía que vendían ese tipo de juguetes (lanchitas) hace 50 años y alguna vez mi abuelo materno me compro una , que recuerdo tan agradable y nostálgico, gracias
Я видел такие игрушки в СССР, после ВОВ при живом Сталине, только тогда не приходилось изощрятся в пайке, так как корпуса были штампованные, и всё остальное оборудование тоже изготавливалось более технологично, занималась этим какая то артель, в которой работал брат школьной подруги моей Матушки. Было это в Ленинграде, в начале 50-х годов прошлого века.

Tengo 70 años y cuando tenia unos 9 o 10 años me habian regalado un barquito a vapor como este u nos pasabamos horas en los charcos de agua del barrio jugando con ellos, una infancia creativa que teniamos en aquellos tiempos !!!!

Tengo 80 años, y cuando yo no tendrìa mas de 4 o 5, ya existìan estos botecitos de vapor, sin hèlices ni paletas.
Funcionan con una "caldera Relàmpago", entre las dos làminas de la oblea de hojalata. Por uno de los cañitos de cobre, chupan el agua del estanque, y por el otro, sale el vapor que lo impulsa.
Es un invento muy antiguo, que por suerte Mr. Gamb, ha resucitado. Felicitaciones!

I had two of these boats when I was like 5, it was certainly magical to see them chug along but you could also get burnt if you touched wrong part of the boat

É a verdade salvo alguns professores que nasceram para ensinar mas hoje são raros. Por isto vimos engenheiros sair da faculdade sem saber a profissão. En mi niñez, tengo 73 años, nos compraban una lanchita que se llamaba, Cris Cras o Pof Pof, no recuerdo bien. Pero no duraban mucho ya que el timón era una latita y después de doblarlo varias veces y no muchas, se cortaba. Pero el gran incoveniente era la calderita pués luego de un uso normal se despegaba de los cañitos y chau juguetito. Pero bueno, era lo que había.

I watched such a project for the first time on Polish television in the second half of the 1960s. the host was Adam Słodowy, who created programs for do-it-yourselfers. Now I saw your version. The same device with a slightly changed design. In the modern version, the author devoted a lot of work to the hull of the ludka, and Mr. Adam's was primarily about explaining the idea of \u200b\u200bthe operation of the drive.

If you apply heat to the joint for a *little longer* to let it heat up before feeding in some solder, you will find the solder will flow better, and you will make much better joints first time. Great video!
