You can also use sowing tread for sawing through the plastic, it works well.

I do a lot of hinges myself... Just a quick tip... some doors on real cars when opened will be on the inside of the inner fender and some doors when opened will be on the outside of the fender. You can replicate this depending on where you place the pivot point of the hinge. If you place the pivot point on the inside of the door, going into the fender then your door when opened will be on the inside of the inner fender... When you place the pivot point on the inside inner fender going through the door, when opened your door will be on the outside of the fender! Hope this helps some of you!

So after watching this video I decided to open up the doors and trunk on my 57 chevy gasser build, the model is a California wheels Revell it's gonna work out great cuase the interior is a glue together interior 👍

I say do the doors too ,finish the fender flairs , scratch build a gasser frame, put a big block in it ,scratch build interior and roll cage, but make it a how to series 👌😉

one nice byproduct of putting styrene strips around the opening is that hood or deck lid doesn't " fall-in" ( it stays level with the fenders)
Is working with brass easier?, I'm bigtime cheapskate and want to try a small paperclip so I don't spend money- what's your take Obi-Wan?

Pretty much how I do it except for using the rubber insulation for the tube. What a great idea, love how it remains open without a prop rod. I will definitely be using that on my next factory stock build!

You should do a video on opening up the rear wheel openings of the 68 Roadrunner and 69 GTX, as well as the Revell 70 Cuda. They are all incorrect and the manufacturers won't do anything about.

what if you left the hinge material a little longer so you could glue or solder a retainer on,and used the rad hose and put it inside a slightly bigger diameter tube and glued that down instead of gluing the rad hose directly to the body.
Just an update on my missing part I ordered for my 67 Chevelle from Round 2 . It's been since March 5th and I'm still waiting lmao.

I love it. I'm going to use this in a build soon to open up the hood. I was going to use styrene tubing but I'll be getting heater hose now. I am still planning to use a straightened paperclip for the hinge though if it fits into the heater hose. Any concerns with that?
As long as the paperclip is that .032 size. You shouldn't have an issue. I just like the brass because it a softer metal and easier to tweak.
great tips I will have to try this on one of my next builds. this way looks a lot better then other how to where they use the big tubing where it is not to scale. does the ca glue hold up over time i have a hard time getting ca glue to hold on the wire insulation? have a great one and keep up the great content.

Really interesting. You've been using the technique for a good long time, how well does the heater hose and C.A. glue hold up ?
Pretty good. I've got models I did this with that are 30 years old and still holding up. Look up my rebuild of my old Grumpys toy 70 Camaro.
