You should get the ECU flashed and and performance filter as well. I have the same bike unrestricted with Akra full racing exhaust, ECU tune, performance air filter, etc. it’s scary fast and accelerates like hell. Amazing bike for sure.

What other options does he have tho if he wants to stay on something that isn't really sporty like a cbr600rr or r6, or the fireblade. This he can actually use for other stuff like touring if he wants. The Honda cbr650r is a perfect bike, and I don't see why you shouldn't put a lot of upgrades in if they're only gonna make your bike better.

Funny thing with the restricted version is that it produces more power around 6000-8000 rpm than at the rev limit, unlike the unrestricted version. To generate the most power, I found that shifting at max 10000 rpm is most optimal on A2/LAMS.

So, question: why would you want to get a 500 Hornet or anything A2 compliant, when you can get a much nicer bike, restrict it, have an AWESOME sounding engine (inline 4), have it be legal and safe for you as a beginner, and de-restrict it once you moven on? I'm comparing prices, it's not that huge of a difference, and you don't even have to bother with selling a bike and loosing money.

In Europe (and elsewhere), they have a graduated license structure with power limits on bikes.
To avoid buying a new bike after you graduate to the unrestricted license, many bikes that would normally be too powerful can have an A2 compliant restrictor kit installed.
This is accomplished via an ECU flash, throttle stop (to keep the bike from going full throttle), a restrictor plate on the throttle body, or other means.
Once you graduate to the unrestricted license, you can remove the restrictor kit and enjoy the full power of your bike, as demonstrated in this video :D

The A2 bike I used at my school was a restricted bike, so a full sized and weight 650cc but it would easily do 100 mph (on a private road of course). All that happens now is people have to take the same two tests all over again to have the restriction removed. So you could pass both tests and the possibly fail them next time even though you’re on the same bike. A2 is as stupid as restricting mopeds to 28mph, whoever though that was also safe should be made to ride one on an open road and see how safe they feel.
