A tarp & large fishing umbrella would make a good shelter, the umbrella modified to have loops to tie guide ropes to & the tarp over the top with ropes crossing over it all to secure it all down...
I’m the guy who made the tarp :) It’s called the Wild Sky Gear Wolf Solo tarp: I make them from Dyneema, the strongest fiber on earth. At 15X stronger than steel it reaaaally isn’t going to break. I used a tent made from this exact fabric back when I was 15 and solo hiked Lands End to John o Groats in the winter. 1500 miles later and after blizzards and storms my tent was fine. It’s the poles, pegs or guylines which break long before the fabric gets anywhere near its limit, as happened here. This one was a little noisy because it didn’t have any internal tie outs, but I make all my gear in Britain, and customise all my tarps free of charge with extra tie outs on demand. In these extreme conditions I would definitely add a couple to take the slack (which would cut the noise). I sell self adhesive tie outs so they can be added later too. A wonderful video, it was people like you who inspired me to get out there in the first place. Keep going. HYOH. Skye
Yeah, I was surprised to hear her say she was worried about it holding up. Also, glad to hear someone making UL gear in the UK. Now if you could get people in Europe to switch to trail runners.... Haha Always surprised the heck out of me seeing all the boots and Gortex. Btw, probably gonna hike across Wales next year, and do the Irish Way. Do you have a store or is it all online?
Haha to be fair anyone who isn't highly drunk should be thinking about if their tent is going to hold up in such a massive storm, and that's before they use somthing crazy like DCF! Yep we're online exclusive, we do sort of have free next day delivery on everything though :) Have a great time on in Wales, which trail are you tackling: offas dyke national trail is a cracker. Trail runners are the way, although in these delightfully damp islands waterproof socks sort of become essential. I totally get why everyone here wants goretex, it's good for shorter hikes (95% of the UK outdoor market). It's when you're going serious distance goretex becomes a rather wet poisoned chalice.
@@WildSkyGear just finished up the TA, may head home to redo the AT, but next year is the Irish Way and maybe the Wales Cistercian Way, or the Coastal one.
They do get tiny holes over time if they rub on anything. Still works but that’s another thing to watch out for. All of my gear is DCF and it’s worth every penny.
I'm looking for a really rigid tarp at the moment, plenty of those i recon, but the problem is weight. The tarp is going to complement a hilleberg tent, be above it basically to act as both a roof outside the opening and as shade. It needs to be a huge tarp, at least 5x5 meters. probably longer in one direction. You make sizes like these with this material?

I think about my Hitch Hiking around OZ back in 1971, found some amazing camping places ,dont know if you have ever done it, covering the camp fire ashes with dirt then putting your ground cover over it ,then sleeping Bag on Top, it keeps you nice and warm all night, ah what memories!
Sure hope u stay warm there...sounds like youre really prepared., thats good..have fun, be safe
WildBeare essentials camping! What a tricky pitch, Claire. Maybe the robin sabotaged your guy line to test your abilities. 😂 Great video, I'm still smiling. Enjoy the rest of your week Beare! 🌲🐻🌲
That tarp is a bin liner thinking above its station..)
Great vlog as ever.
Well done beautiful and you’re a trooper with a lot of patience. The landscape and views are amazing out there but the weather is rough. Love the tarp setup and the waterproof setup. Definitely something I would like to have for wet situations. Happy Valentine’s Day too!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼🍻👊🏼😁
I love your videos.. Your eyes and smile are like sun on a cloudy day. Your voice is so warm and calming..i love the outdoors to.. Nature rules.....
fantastic video. loved your little friend, so cute. great to see you you managed a rough start to your camp.
To film in all those conditions is a credit to you !
Well done even sleeping under the small tarp
Thank you
I really am enjoying this content, you are a brave lady with a hunger for adventure 😂 look foward to more of your videos. God bless
Ahh Nature shows, and my favorite type too! Fox in the Woods!
I admire your style. I like seeing when you challenge yourself. Happy Valentine’s Day.
'A bit nuts' - understatement of the year so far 😂
I love that nothing phases you and you smile through adversity. Keep smiling 😊
Going with the caterpillar theme, I had this passing thought that you had pupated in your sleeping bag, only to emerge as a butterfly in the morning! 🙄🤭🤣
That must have been an uncomfortable night, Claire. I’m happy you survived it relatively unscathed.
I’m looking forward to ‘Part 2’.
Stay safe.
Wow what a night and you survived so calmly... thats a treasure to keep well done ! ! ! @Wildbeare #WildBeare
Absolutely loving your videos. Please please keep them coming and again i commend you for persevering and having the balls to do this on your own. 💛😇👍
Great video, Claire,
I recon you're heading up to the little ruined shepherds' hut that you have had tried camping in twice before. With differing out comes.? I hope you had better luck this time. xx looking forward to watching it
Thanks, could be 😀 Hope you're having a great week
I admire you very much, a hug from Italy
Nice to see you back out camping looked a bit cold and snow and your friend the Robin hope all is well stay safe and stay warm and stay healthy one life enjoy blessed be
That was a tough tarp ;0) and you love your pastries lol x
Your brave as hell to put yourself through that.❤
Ha ha the Eryri robins are cheeky little buggers - they often appear to check ob whether you're up to no good I find ;-) My guess with the pole is that you're going to try another abandoned roofless shelter and this time use the pole as a central tarp support.
Hi Claire: I just want to say that your uploads and personality take me to a better place mentally and emotionally and I Thank You for that.
Always enjoy your adventures. Love getting the different ideas on how to go out. But, I'll probably pass on this idea. LOL. Thanks for takin me along!
