    1. Cerave renewing SA cleanser
    2. Cerave resurfacing retinal serum

      Hello Jazzmin,
      Yes, but that is not the correct order.
      Use your Hyaluronic Acid before CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum. Since your retinol is a cream and your Hyaluronic Acid is a water-based serum.

      You're very welcome! And yes, there is not really a need to wait. Just some retinol formulations take a bit longer to absorb. So in some cases, it makes sense to wait 2-3 minutes before using the moisturizer but not longer. :)

      Do you have dry skin? If so, yes.
      But for oily skin no. The cream is too heavy. For that, I advise using a hydrating toner or essence.
      Example
      1. Cerave Acne Control Cleanser.
      2. I'm From Rice Toner or Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Essence
      3. Cerave resurfacing retinol serum.
      4. 30 SPF sunscreen during daytime (also make sure to have one for oily skin, for example, COSRX Aloe Soothing Suncream)

    Don’t all retinol products have resurfacing effects ? I think the compagny has been a bit redundant when choosing the name of this products…probably to attract more consumers.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hello 😃
      Every single product on the market was designed to attract more customers 😉 Just the marketing techniques a different.
      I think that the combination of Retinol, Niacinamide and Licorice Root Extract is excellent. But I don't particularly appreciate that they do not tell us how much it contains, so a bit more transparency would be ideal. But they changed course a bit with their newer products, so that's great. 😃

      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! :)
      I would recommend using either your Salicylic Acid Cleanser or Gel, or your Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser. It's important not to use them in the same routine. Additionally, the frequency of use and your skin's tolerance are important factors to consider. Using too many acne treatments can lead to dryness and irritation.

      Thank you. Well, since you do not seem to have an acne problem - unlike I do, but not because of the product - your skin will likely not look like a pizza face. However, some people can experience purging, which depends on how your skin responds to the retinol, strength and formulation.

    I always come looking for your videos whenever I buy a new product. I just received my CeraVe resurfacing retinol serum, but I have doubts about how to use it. I currently have a very basic mornin routine : Cleanser (effaclar) > rose water as a toner > CosrxSnail Mucin essence > the ordinary niacinamide > Sunscreen
    On the PM, if I’m wearing make up : beauty of Joseon cleanser balm > neutrogena curcuma calm > snail mucin essence > la roche posay effaclar concentrated serum (I started using it a few days ago).
    When should I be using the Cerave serum ?

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Lydia,
      Since you just started with the effaclar concentrated serum, I suggest waiting at least 1-2 weeks before using the retinol. Since sometimes this leads to redness/stinging.
      But after that, you could use it on the days you do not use that serum, so alternate between the retinol and the serum and then see what frequency works best for you. (or how often you can use them) Since that is individual and depends a lot on your personal skin tolerance and needs.

    CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Face Lotion

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only use these so-called moisturizers with SPF; it is more a marketing term as many sunscreens have hydrating ingredients. Still, the others also often have additional antioxidants that are beneficial. Anyway, what I want to say is yes, use a moisturizer with SPF suitable for your specific skin type!
      And yes, the routine looks excellent.
      AM:
      CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser (daily)
      CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Face Lotion
      PM:

      Yes, but it can be a very drying combination. So, you may need to adjust it by adding an additional moisturizing product or using a mild, hydrating gel-to-foam cleanser. That's what I would suggest.

      @@mhmetazad3479 Generally, no. If you adjust the frequency to your needs, it should work well, and maybe even better, especially if you are alternating with another cleanser.
      However, a gel would be ideal, such as The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors with Beta Glucan or G&G Hydration Station, as they are very lightweight and make it feel like you have nothing on your skin.

    Hey Melissa, ich hoffe dir gehts gut! Zu erst einmal ein erneutes Danke für deine Zeit & Mühe die du hier investierst, um anderen zu helfen. Ich greife schon seit Jahren auf deine Videos zurück und konnte meine Haut wesentlich verbessern, da ich die Basics von Hautpflege durch dich verstanden habe. Danke!!!
    Ich möchte nun anfangen, Retinol in meine Routine mit einzubeziehen und habe mich für den Anfang für dieses hier von Cerave entschieden. Leider weiß ich nicht ganz, wie ich Retinol in meine Routine einbringen soll.
    Meine aktuelle Abendroutine sieht so aus:
    1. Reinigung mit Sebamed Waschemulsion
    2. The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc Serum
    (3. nur bei Bedarf: The Ordinary Mandelic Acid ODER The Ordinary Azealic Acid Suspension, wenn meine Haut eine schlechte Phase hat)
    3. La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+
    4. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+
    5. Cerave Facial Moisturising Cream und/oder Neutrogena Hydro Boost Aqua Intensivpflege
    Bei ganz trockener Haut nutze ich zusätzlich noch von The Ordinary das Rose Hip Seed oil nach dem Effaclar Duo+, aber eher selten.
    Ich dachte mir, ich nutze das Retionol Serum nach Niacinamide und fahre dann mit dem Rest normal fort?
    Effaclar Duo+ und Cicaplast Baume B5+ haben meine Haut wesentlich verbessert und ich würde eigentlich ungerne drauf verzichten! Da ich Effaclar Duo+ auch morgens nutze, könnte ich aber notfalls in der abendlichen Routine drauf verzichten.
    Wäre das eine sinnvolle Routine:
    1. Cleanser
    2. Niacinamide
    3. Retinol Serum
    4. Effaclar Duo+
    5. Cicaplast Baume B5+
    6. Feuchtigkeitscreme
    ?
    Mandelic Acid oder Azealic Acid würde ich natürlich nicht mit dem Retinol in einer Routine verwenden.
    Vielen Dank im Voraus und liebe Grüße

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hallo, es freut mich sehr zu hören, dass du meine Videos hilfreich findest und dass sich deine Haut nach und nach verbessert hat 🥰
      Nun, da Retinol neu für dich/deine Haut ist, würde ich dir anraten, dein Effaclar DUO + nur am Morgen zu benutzen und/oder an Abenden, wenn du dein Retinol nicht benutzt, oder es erstmal für einige Tage bzw. Wochen ganz auszusetzen. Somit kannst du Trockenheit und Irritationen minimieren/vermeiden.
      Wenn du das Stadium erreicht hast, in dem du Retinol täglich verwenden kannst, kannst du vielleicht dein Effaclar DUO+ wieder einbauen. Grundsätzlich musst du dein Retinol aber nicht täglich verwenden, sondern könntest auch abwechselnd mit dem Effaclar DUO verwenden. Aber das hängt wirklich davon ab, wie deine Haut reagiert, und du musst dich daran anpassen.
      PM1:
      Cleanser
      Niacinamide
      Retinol
      Moisturizer
      PM2:
      Cleanser
      Niacinamide
      Effaclar DUO
      Moisturizer

    I'd like to replace it with the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum, but I also recently bought the Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliating Powder (trying it every other day).
    When/what days should I use the CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol Serum? (I read on their website you shouldn't use it along other physical/chemical exfoliants.)
    Could I get away with the days I'm not using the exfoliating powder? Or cycle it by week? (one week powder, the following week retinol serum, repeat?)
    I've learned so much from your channel already and am very appreciative when you respond to my comments! Thanks in advance.

      Hello Nwunye Keke,
      Yes, don't use AHA (Glycolic, Lactic Acids) or BHA (Salicylic Acid) with Retinol. Especially not if you do it chronically.
      So the best would be to use it when you are not using your exfoliant. Still, the CeraVe retinol serums are also not very potent, so they should not cause any major irritation. And if you are looking for better results, use Paula's Choice Retinol serums or go with Adapalene 0,1%! :)

      That's something that is not known. There are no lifetime studies on Retinol/Retinoids. Or at least I am not aware of them.
      You do not need to increase the dose if this works well. It depends on the conversion of the retinol to your skin and your overall tolerance for it.

    I'm a bit confused.
    I currently have the following produts and cant build a routine out of it. Can you help me how can I use these product a.m and p.m please? I have oily skin. Thanking you in advance :)
    1. Cerave Acne control gel
    2. Roche posay duo+

    5. Cerave Hydrating clenser

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, most of these treatments are very potent, except for the hydrating cleanser. You also have a hydrating cleanser, but I guess you have combination skin - Normal to oily? In that case, the right cleanser for you would be a mild foaming cleanser to properly remove oil, dirt, makeup, etc., from the skin. Additionally, you're missing a sunscreen; all of these treatments make the skin sensitive to the sun. So, if you have sun exposure, you need to use sunscreen.
      My suggestion would be to get a hyaluronic acid serum or a light gel-based moisturizer, for example, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel or G&G Hydration Station, as you will likely experience dryness over time.
      AM:
      Panoxyl 10% BP cleanser
      Pat dry
      Hyaluronic acid serum or light gel moisturizer
      Sunscreen (if you have sun exposure, ideally one with hydrating benefits suitable for your skin type)
      PM:
      CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
      Pat dry
      CeraVe Acne Control Gel or La Roche Posay Duo+
      Wait a couple of minutes
      Your gel moisturizer
      PM2:
      CeraVe Foaming Cleanser
      Pat dry
      CeraVe Retinol
      Wait a couple of minutes
      Moisturizer gel
      However, the frequency may be too much for your skin in the beginning, so you really need to adjust it based on your personal needs.

    hey Melissa thanks for the video. I have a question, the retinol serum closes the pores and the PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion that you used after, open the pores, right ? so is it okay to use two products that have opposite fonctions ? thank you once again

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Retinol can help make pores look smaller. It speeds up skin cell turnover, which means less buildup of dead skin that can clog and enlarge pores. It might also help control oil, which can also make pores look smaller.
      Moisturizing lotions keep your skin hydrated and nourished, helping to stop it from getting dry. They don't influence pores directly, but by keeping your skin balanced and not too dry, they can prevent your skin from making too much oil. This can help stop your pores from getting clogged.
      So, ultimately, it's okay to use these two products together as long as you use them in the right order and give your skin time to adjust to the retinol.

I just got my Resurfacing Retinol and wanted to add it into my routine for better result.

    This is going to be my first time using retinol. Should I just skip all the steps and go straight to retinol after cleansing or keep it the same? Can I use the azelaic acid on the same day with retinol? If not, how can I incorporate this into my night time skincare?
    Thank you!!

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello,
      It's unfortunate, but I think the treatments you're using may not be effective for your melasma. Melasma typically has various causes, so it's essential to consult a doctor to treat it effectively. A doctor can conduct tests to determine the cause and provide medical treatments to help fade the condition.
      Regarding your routine questions, you're using a very mild retinol that can be easily incorporated daily into your skincare regimen. If you're new to it, you might start with every other day application. However, I'm concerned about the number of treatments in your routine, as this could make your skin sensitive over time. It's wise to keep azelaic acid separate from the rest, as it is a potent treatment.
      I would probably do something like this:
      Morning routine:
      Cleansing
      Hamotogi Toner
      Vichy B3 Dark Spot Serum or The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin
      SPF 50+ (if exposed to the sun/outdoors)
      Evening routine (on alternate days):
      Double cleansing
      Alternate between Skinoren Azelaic Acid or Resurfacing Retinol
      I would not add anything else in the evening except these treatments, maybe the toner beforehand as a buffer. However, this could potentially trigger a reaction with the strong azelaic acid; you'll need to test this.
      But, the best course of action is to visit a doctor first.

      In term of the cause, it is due to prolong sun exposure and heat sensitivity as I live in Thailand and it is so hot and sunny. I am not diligent with my sunscreen, but now I am.

      @@monmapisan4233 Okay, well, azelaic acid and tretinoin are often combined, but for treating melasma, I think hydroquinone would be the right choice in your case. However, for that, you would need to consult a doctor again and ask for advice on how to use it properly. It's usually administered under a doctor's guidance. I believe it may work well, especially if it's really due to prolonged sun exposure. I have seen people in my skincare group who used a combination of azelaic acid and hydroquinone, and it worked quite nicely for them!

      No, this product does not need to be refrigerated because it comes in an airless pump bottle. However, it's best to keep it away from excessive heat. This product contains retinol, which can help with various skin concerns. It can make the skin smoother and improve collagen production, leading to an overall improvement in skin appearance. However, it's important to note that it won't work miracles. 😉

Or if you want to use a moisturizer, opt for a light gel like G&G Hydration Station or the new Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan. As for sunscreen, I really enjoy NIOD Survival 30, mineral based, smooth finish, and full of supporting antioxidants.
      Thank you very much for the lovely feedback.

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if it is potent enough to do it; generally, it depends on how well your skin converts the retinol. If you did not buy it yet, I recommend going for Differin gel or an exfoliating acid such as Glycolic Acid that will show better results! Still, if you already have it try it; if you do not see results within 6-8 weeks, then ditch it and try the options mentioned above! :)

    Hey there Melissa, I've always reached out to your videos to gain a much better understanding of the products I'm putting onto my face, so thank you for being such a bright pillar of education in this community, we greatly appreciate it!
    My query I'd like to raise is that currently I just bought the Cerave Resurfacing Retinol Serum the other day and I'm planning to Incorporate it into my routine now. My skin type is Combination, and I've always had a reoccurring fight with mild acne across my chin/jawline. I will use this for a reasonable time to gauge results, what are your thoughts on my routine?
    AM would look like:
    Cerave Hydrating Cream to foam cleanser
    Neutrogena Hydroboost cream (not gel)
    Beauty of Joseon sunscreen
    PM:
    Cerave Hydrating Cream to foam cleanser
    COSRX Advanced snail 96 essence

    • @MelissaVanDijkOfficial
      @MelissaVanDijkOfficial  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, sunscreen is never wrong to use. And it all depends on how fuzzy you are and what you want to achieve. If you use the serum, you likely use it because you want to reduce acne/dark spots. So when having direct sun exposure and not wearing sunscreen, the dark spots take longer to heal. So ultimately sunscreen is good to use ;)

      As long as you use sunscreen, then it is no issue. However, since application is usually just once per day, it's recommended to use it in the evening. There are several reasons for this: first of all, because you can then use retinol without it being influenced by other skincare products. Additionally, it can work overnight, allowing your skin some time to recover.

    Can you use the retinol twice a day once in the am with the SPF 30 moisturizer and once at night with the night moisturizer?

      Well, according to them, yes. Now, based on my experience, it works best once a day.

      I wouldn't use it in the same routine since it may irritate the skin; however, if you do, use it after the BHA.
