    This looks like a lot of fun! Do I like fun? Yes, I do! Bring it on!
    I made a stack in whack quilt top in 2003 or 2005, i'm not sure when , on an Alaska quilting cruise. I have yet to quilt it. Cat fabric. Very cute.

    Just found your channel! Totally enjoyed watching you put this one together! My first quilt was a traditional log cabin - i kinda lile all the versions! I used to sew most of my clothes, then Halloween costumes when kids came along. I have made a few quilts, but have fabric for way more! 😅 why is it you fear there will never be a prettier fabric, and you must buy it!! That's a trap! Anyway - love this log cabin!! Thnk you for taking the time to share this quilt process!

    I don’t have a layer cake but I do have a jelly roll and matching charm pack. Think some maths is needed for the cutting but I love this quilt. @NiecyRose ปีที่แล้ว

      @@70acres Oh they are! 4 out of my 5 machines are vintage. I’d love a featherweight but they’re so pricey now due to their collectibility. I’ve decided to invest in a layer cake from Moda for the quilt as I like the scale of it and you made it look so easy. I like easy.

    Well, I couldn’t wait to make this, so I started almost immediately after watching it fit. My first practice block them together. Perfect. After that I got lost. None of my squares match. So the next time I make this and there will be a next time. I’m going to make one four square block at a time.

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it, Ellen. Just do 4 blocks at a time until you get into the flow of it. I did the first 4 blocks and then I cut and stacked the rest of the layer cake 4 at a time. I was amazed at how fast I blew through it. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching, Joyce! I have a problem. I collect sewing machines. Within 10 feet of my Singer 301 there are about a dozen other machines. I have several others upstairs. I have them stored in other buildings and still have some in my NY house. I think I'm up to about 24 machines. In fact, I have one just behind me here in the dining room! They are everywhere! 😀😆😁

    Tell you what-can you see it done on the “points” pattern instead
    Of straight up and down?

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just turning the blocks on point or making the cuts on the diagonal? I'm not sure how to do that with this block but I'd be interested in trying. Thanks, Augenia!

    What are the measurements of the pieces of the quilt blocks. Ida

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ida, thanks for watching. If you go to 3:00 I tell you the measurements. We are using a layer cake, which is 10" square, and we are **slicing off 2" strips, rotating 90º and slicing off 2"**, rinse, repeat. The first slice is 10" x 2", the next slice is 8" x 2", the next slice is also 8" x 2". Just follow along with the video and the instructions will be clear.

    I wonder how the blocks would come out if you were to put each size strip in their own individual bag, shake them up, then randomly pull a strip from the size you need as you reconstruct? 💖👵🏻

      That would be a cool idea, Bonnie! Thanks for watching! 🥰

    would you re-tell me how many pieces to move around when cutting 4 at a time. I know you moved the big square, then left the next two alone and then I lost you for the rest of the block. Definitely going to try this

      Hi Elaine, thanks for watching. You can do whatever order pleases you. You want to switch out a different fabric for each round. If stacking 4, leave one of the rounds alone, put the top piece at the bottom for the second round, put the top two pieces at the bottom for the third round and then take the last one on the bottom and put it on the top for the fourth round. I hope this helped.

    Could you please tell me what size quilt this makes. Thanks much.

    • @70acres
      @70acres  ปีที่แล้ว

      The blocks are trimmed to 8.5" unfinished. If you do the layout I show, the 4 block units should be 16". I don't "make a quilt to a specific size. I make blocks until it looks big enough. I can't sew/quilt large quilts because of physical limitations so I shoot for a throw or baby quilt size. You should be able to get 2 baby quilts or one throw size quilt out of a layer cake. Thanks for watching, Shirley.

    Love your videos along with the comedy anf the verses at the end, but, the music with them is ..well, kinda strange.

      LOL, I think it is some chanting music. I was thinking of swapping it out. I'll see what I can find. Thanks for watching, Do!

    Love your video and also love that you do allow for booboo's and don't condemn. I am so far from perfect and some places make =me feel if I am not perfect I fail. Thank you for being human. Hugs

      I am a flawed human, I won't edit that out. If I can screw up and still end up with a quilt in the end, it is OK if others make mistakes. That's how we learn. Thanks for watching, Susan, Have a blessed day!

      Yes, I replaced my mic and it improved. I still have problems at my cutting table because my mic is by my sewing machine, but I'm trying to improve. Thanks for watching, WDE.
