    So in other words, proactive tasks are what you know you have to do to chase your goal, and reactive tasks are the promblem-solving tasks that enable you to get to those practice tasks so you're essentially "reacting" to your excuses? If so, I think something that might help is to make an excuses brainstorm column in the middle and then draw an arrow to the solution in the reactive column? So that later you don't look at your list and wonder what you were thinking and what the motivation is. It's basically building a tool box for when your plan springs a leak, so you gotta know the purpose of the tools to justify owning them.

      That's so true, i made a column inbetween as "distraction" for things that distract me or reasons for why i can't do the things in proactive and then put the solution in "reactive". Good suggestion!

    • @Qbmayah001
      @Qbmayah001 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Absolutely, you've got the concept down pat! Proactive tasks are like those must-do steps to reach your goals, and reactive tasks are all about finding solutions to problems that pop up along the way. I totally dig your idea of having an excuses brainstorm column and linking it to solutions in the reactive column. It's like creating a toolkit for when things go off track, so you're always ready to fix any leaks in your plan. Understanding why these tools matter is key - it's like owning tools you know how to use and need. Great thinking! I’m impressed.

    💊 Proactive task: A direct action towards the goal (e.g., actually writing).
    💊 Reactive task: Addressing potential obstacles or excuses (e.g., finding a conducive writing environment or hiring help).
    💊 Confronting and solving issues rather than succumbing to excuses.
    💊 Assessment of tasks for urgency and importance.
    💊 Task growth and complexities increase as one progresses towards the goal.
    💊 Importance of proactive problem-solving and being realistic with oneself.
    💊 Pursue your goals and change life according to the desired trajectory.

    I have an issue that made me want to give up on a task. Then, after watching this video I decided to do the best I could to work on the task. It took me a lot longer than usual, but I got some of it done. Now I'm going to work on another task, which again will take longer than usual, but I WILL get it done. I guess the result is that if you do nothing, nothing will get done. Thanks for your videos.

    This is MAGIC. I totally recognize that I have some sort of excuse to not start something. I go through those excuses in my head and tell myself that's not an actual reason to not start and i can conquer some tasks that way, but other tasks are harder to go through this mental block. Writing it down like this would be very effective!

    How many of us are scratching our heads wondering why life had to become so very complicated? Why are there so many struggling with day to day life management? Who else looks at wild animals, which seem to live without so many complications, with envy? It wasn't supposed to be this way, was it?
    People really need to start questioning the status quo and rebuilding a better world that isn't so complicated, stressful and full of unnecessary distractions.

    Thank you so much for clarifying! I had a gut feeling which was quite acurate, but you putting it into words like this really helped to understand it explicitely. 👍💯
    The reactive things are very often the roots of my personal procrastination. I want to do "the thing", but somehow just can't bring myself to it - and when I start to dig deeper, I often find something actually quite small, that just causes a chain reaction of obstacles and excuses, which in the end lead to me procrastinating. And when I have that root problem figured out, the rest becomes so much easier.
    For me, that is especially true for my creative project. At work, stuff just needs to get done, no matter what, but the things i "only" "want" to do sometimes get pushed back because of some logistical issue or a single part missing or whatever, which is very often easily remedied. It's not always that easy, but at least then I know the "real" issue - and not just the lame excuse. 🤗

    Another ways to think about proactive tasks and reactive tasks: Reactive time is spent working on other people’s priorities while Proactive time is spent working on your own priorities. You need to learn how to balance these everyday.

    • @monicasoriano8581
      @monicasoriano8581 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely agree with this comment. n a world where external demands constantly vie for our attention, setting aside proactive time to focus on our own priorities is essential. It allows us to make progress on our goals and initiatives rather than solely reacting to the needs of others. Striking the right balance between these two types of tasks can lead to more fulfilling and productive days.

    I think you did a pretty good job explaining reactive tasks in the first video BUT thanks for doing this deep dive anyway. I am also wondering if the reason I got the reactive portion so easily is because I do a daily review where I ask myself 'What went wrong today?' so I'm already used to spotting where I'm being reactive [responding to things that happen] versus proactive [planning ahead]
    For example: I woke up late which made me start work late, end work late, not get everything on my night routine done and end up sleeping late [that's reactive]. I now know to fix my sleep schedule so I can wake up early, not rush into my day, complete my night routine on time AND break the sleep late, wake up late cycle.

    I think the title “reactive” needs to change for many people because if they are in this “jam” it’s because they “react” (triggering for example) out of not being organized or a procrastinator. The opposite for new conditioning like a title of “I got this” or Solutions” type of concept, maybe.

    Okay this may sound like a silly question, however, some people (hi it's me, I am people) struggle with knowing HOW to know when something is important vs unimportant (less so with urgent vs not urgent). Are there questions you ask yourself to decide where those tasks go on the grid? I know what I do, but I also think you could explain it faaaar better 😊

    I'd probably add an extra column in between proactive and reactive columns labeled "Excuses"

  • @catstickler
    @catstickler ปีที่แล้ว

    I ended up having 3 columns titled: steps (what Amy calls proactive), excuses/challenges, and solutions (what Amy calls reactive).
    I realized that I needed to be more aware of my excuses and get them out of my mind, if only to see how ridiculous they were on paper (and how easy they are to overcome with some thought). It's a good approach for me to think, "Am I really going to let *this* stop me?" And it refuels that desire to do the thing I want. I also like adding very real challenges to my list. I differentiate excuses vs challenges and label excuses as reasons to not do something and challenges as barriers to getting it done.
    (For starting a YT channel, an excuse would be "I don't think I look good on camera" or "I don't like my voice" and a challenge would be "I'm a single mom with two young kids who are still very dependent" and "I don't know how to edit a video." For me, excuses are more internal and challenges are more external.)
    The reason I changed the words was just for my own mind.
    I like thinking in terms of action steps to feel like I have a plan of attack, so I changed proactive to "steps" so I could brain dump a list of stuff that needs to get done for each goal. And why I changed reactive to "solutions" is simply because I didn't want to see the word reactive. I've been living a really reactive lifestyle, especially as a single mom, where I feel resentful toward even the word. I didn't want to have those feelings pop up every time I look at my list and associate my goals with that. The word "solutions" makes me feel more empowered and curious about finding potential solutions to overcome my challenges rather than feel like I need to be reactive (emotionally reactive) to all the excuses/challenges.
    So I guess this one would be called the Actions/Challenges/Solutions system, but it's literally the same thing in the video -- just different words that help my brain be more aware of my experiences with getting things done (and the barriers of doing things) and help my brain/body stay more regulated and grounded.

    I so appreciate the expanded version of the brain dump process! Funny story though, I totally skipped writing down my excuses and went straight to writing the solutions. Is that one step ahead, or avoidance? lol jk Seriously thank you for all that you do Amy! Your hard work is so appreciated.

    New to your channel, love your content but here i was thinking for a specific space to write you will say library, and here you are giving suggestions of rentals, that are expensive !!!!
    Have watched a couple of other videos too, your channel basically caters to people who have the money and can afford to buy the expensive journal, afford to have baby sitters etc etc...
    Probably your majority subscribers do have the money and ofcourse you gotta cater to them.... Good Luck with everything!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉

      I would actually also really like to know how to work thru productivity / goals when you're someone who has rebel tendencies @AmyLandino! Feels like I put a lot of pressure in the planning stage, then sabotage myself sometimes...

    I'm surprised you said rent a AirB&B for the person who doesn't have a place to write. What ever happened to: get up early or stay up after everyone's gone to bed for some quiet time for writing? Not everyone has money to rent space (that's the reason to write ... Selling your work.) 💖🌞🌵😷
