    Your dress is so lovely Tash! I vote the darker blue for your second hat. You’re needles 🤭😳🤣 it looks like organised chaos! Love the FOs from the vault. Whenever I think I might be low on yarn for finishing something, I will stretch from one fingertip to the other and see how many stitches I can knit with that length. Then I roll the amount off that I might need (x arm lengths) roll it up put a pin in it and let it hang. It saves getting out scales which sometimes are not always accurate or a tape measure which is inconvenient. I might have to call myself the lazy knitter, always looking for the shortest shortcut 🤣🤣 I’m also a repeat knitter, I get excited too! Thanks for the fun.

      Thanks so much for the comments, Karen. I am definitely going to go with the darker blue for the hat - I think it will be a nice contrast. Yeah - the needles are a bit nuts. They definitely dont look beautiful. But I have found i am better at putting them away, generally... I love your tip for estimating how much yardage will be taken up. That is a great method where you dont need any tools handy. Thanks for watching and for taking the to comment. :)

    Tash the Ilha dress looks great on you look good in the colour. The Musselburgh colour is great. The second Musselburgh choose the darker yarn. Love the colour your socks.

      Thanks so much Rosemary. I am definitely going with the darker contrast for the Musselburgh hat. That seems to be the best match. Thanks so much for leaving a comment. :)

    LOVE the Sorrel jumpers. I am off to WonderWool (annual yarn festival in Wales, UK) this weekend and will definitely be choosing some yarn while I’m there to knit this ❤😍❤️

      Have a wonderful time this weekend. I really like speckles underneath the mohair in this sweater. They really pop and look beautiful in the stitch pattern near the neck. Thanks so much taking the time to leave a comment. :)

    It's lovely to watch a fellow aussie and you are a similar size to me which is helpful too. If you were to make the Ilha or the Rununculus, which do you like best for a small frame?

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like both very much. They have very different gauges. Ilha is 21sts and Ranunculus is 14sts.
      My Ilha is quite fitted as I had a tighter gauge but if you are in gauge, you would get a nice oversize sweater knitting the smallest size which is about 39”
      I would only knit Ranunculus if your gauge was closer to 16sts or tighter or it could be just too bulky voluminous.
      So I would say you could pick either depending on your gauge.
      I hope that helps.
      :)

      That helps a great deal :) Thankyou Tash. I was wondering how to get a suitable Ranunculus guage! It's always tricky to pick patterns because there are too many nice ones but your vlog helps 😊

    Hi Tash! I’m doing a Sorrel with 3 colors. How do I know how much to save for the sleeves? Thanks

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lynn. I do a lot of weighing of yarn and consider the number of stitches I have on the sleeves. For example, if i had 180 sts on the body and 90 sts on the two sleeves combined, then i need half of the weight used on the body saved for the sleeves. So if i used 50g of one ball on the body, i need to save 25 grams for the sleeves.
      Another way of thinking of it is that i can allow two thirds of the yarn for the body and that would save one third for the sleeves. I might not need ALL that yarn from my skein, but that is the most i can use.
      Those numbers for body and sleeves are nice and round and give good fractions but the formula is arrived at
      Body yarn allowed = (body stitches)/(body stitches +total sleeve sts for both sleeves). That is the fraction of the yarn i have that i can use for the body.
      Sleeve yarn i need to save = (total sleeve sts for both sleeves)/(body sts + total sleeve sts for both sleeves).
      I hope that makes sense and is helpful. If not, let me know and I can do a video on it using paper and pen and run through it more clearly.

      @@mostlyknitting thank you for this. I weighed my yarn so hopefully I’ll be okay. I enjoy your podcast 😊
