the QoL locked behind gameplay comment was crazy from Asmon considering he loves vanilla wow where you have to level for like 25 hours before u get ur first shitty mount if u can even afford it.
It's a very old tabletop RPG system/style. You always get a bag of holding after you figure it out without it once or twice, around level 3 to 5 in D&D. Why? Because as the DM I'm really going to need you to pay attention to what I'm saying and not writing down a bunch of superfluous details on your character sheet. Making you decide if you're going to bring a 10 ft Pole or a shovel is funny only once. When every little piece of loot matters should only be at the very beginning. Even use a Tetris mechanic like Diablo, where everything has to actually fit in a backpack. And the loot is incredibly detailed. Marking the point where the player goes from poor to middle class is this easy as giving them an NPC that now handles all their loot for them. Even progress further where you end up with a small encampment following you around. Like a group of dwarves ready to pull out every nail in the dungeon, restore and sell all the furniture etc. Magic folk following you around to the entrance but not actually going in until you clear it, who also provide goods and services like enchantments and potions and such at a discounted price for access to anything you find in the dungeon magic lore related. Etc. So you can do potion crafting, but you don't have to after a certain point. And so on and so forth. It also means that as you progress the game you don't overwhelm the player by having to deal with the minutiae of subsystems. It's there if you want to take advantage of it, but not necessary to complete the game. At least that's how we do it in tabletop land.

Unlocking QOL in game is fine. Obv how fun it is depends on what extent the early QOL is downgraded, but generally speaking its not a problem. Many asmon viewers will defend POE like their life depends on it and POE has QOL on the shop as microtransactions... having it unlockable in game is better.
It's not that hard to defend dude. It's a F2P game that has to make money and stash space/ premium tabs were the bulk of their revenue especially in the earlier years. Also, running a database storage and trade API is not an insignificant financial burden on GGG plus without a cost layer involving items/trade there would be nothing limiting the number of bots that people would make. So it's more than fair that this be something players purchase when they want to keep playing and need the QoL deeper into the game.
@@arcc4 ofc it made them a lot of money. Make a problem, sell the solution. But that is not what is at question nor is whether a f2p game is allowed to make money.. Asmon asked if it was bad game design to gate QOL stuff, like having a minimap, behind story progression milestones like Cohh was mentioning implementing into his game. I generally dont think its a problem, esp compared to games that lock QOL behind microtransactions.
@@LogoRR Except, you're not qualifying why in comparison its a problem and you're dodging the point I was making at the same time. You will have to buy Emberville. This in effect means you are paying for QoL features regardless of their design and implementation. How is that worst than paying for QoL locked behind MTX in a F2P game when both technically cost money? More importantly its not comparing similar things. Emberville will be single player where it perhapes makes more sense to integrate features/QoL as part of the story, characters, and progression. PoE does a lot of that too. It's the QoL/features related to being F2P, online, multiplayer, and having a game economy that are locked behind MTX.
I am so glad he has finally been allowed to release this statement! Been part of the Emberville discord community since before Cohh became a producer for it, great idea and i cant wait for the release.

@@NoDFX_ Not a great analogy. You hire a plumber to do a job that needs to be done, and need a professional to do it. You buy a game because you hope it might entertain you.
Terraira does this progressing QOL perfectly, but that's only because the dev team listened to the community and was willing to look at their complaints.
about mikiri counter, it's not core mechanic in sekiro that's why there isn't that many main boss you can do mikiri counter on them. it's like a nice upgrade but you'd be fine with it. like the whole sekiro combat is revolve around deflecting attack
Knowing Cohh and his taste for video games im very excited for this game i just hope the dev team can keep up with his ideas xD wishing them all the best
This looks exactly like a Player World game like Jerrath I used to play back in the day like 20-25 years ago. Used to be a decent size back then. But super easy to make. They would give you free tiles and was very easy to do did it when I was 13-15 and edit the UI
I see where the inspiration came from, but I think when there is Stardew Valley on the market since so many years, with such a huge community and when ConcernedApe is making a new game - Haunted Chocolatier, making a new farm-related game with a lot of the same solutions as in Stardew Valley isn’t a great idea. As a lover of such games I wouldn’t touch another one after Stardew Valley because I literally experienced everything there. The game feels special, magical and surprises a lot, while the game from video looks underdeveloped, same mechanics, cave, fishing, quests, not a lot of new ideas
what about forgotten Heaven and Hearts game was sooo mazing. Super hardcore at the begining, but soo well designed. Amazing crafting, amazing fishind, housing. BEST gathering system ever maded.
The visual design is good, simple but effective. The main protagonist needs some more work though, it looks like the character is walking backwards when moving up the screen.

I have always wondered why i didn't see more big streamers producing games. Having a recognisable trusted figure as the face for you game surely goes a long way for building trust and good faith on top of the obviously great publicity.
Yeah true but most streamers don’t even know basic coding or how to write a story but it would be cooler to see what ideas what good things come to the table
As said by Cohh, he is the producer, so he is pretty much the one who keeps the vision on track and makes sure everyone is on the same page @@TheAzure4
based on what he said, he is an agile scrum master overseeing development, so altough he is not directly writing the code, he has to have the knowledge to understand it to function at his job :)@@TheAzure4
It's not that surprising when you consider that most big streamers have made careers working largely independently. Production requires a set of skills you don't get by spending your entire adult life playing games on camera and shouting about them on TH-cam, and good studios don't neccesarily want to work with someone like that.
Tbf you don’t get mikiri counter until you choose to buy the skill. It’s possible that someone played halfway through Sekiro without knowing how valuable that ability is.
I gotta be honest, I swear I missed like the first 2 minutes of what he said because the Cat had all my attention, such a pretty cat! okay, lets start over and listen this time..
Reminds me of Soul Blazer more than anything else. The town building and the wisp that follows you and attacks things seem like they were lifted straight out of it.
The game's concept seems interesting, and I'll be keeping an eye on it. I agree with Asmon about QoL. It would suck if it's one of those situations where, "Don't worry! It gets better after playing 20 hours!". If those things unlock rather quickly, that's fine, but if the devs put too high of a value on having those basic things, then the player's experience, and the game itself, will suffer.
@@ForsakenLogitek It CAN be considered progression IF it's done right. If it's treated like gaining skills, and there's a story related reason for unlocking QoL features, then it'll work. Otherwise it'll seem like they're just trying to artificially make the game harder/longer for no real reason.
Windwaker was so much better than whatever tf Twilight Princess was supposed to be. If the latter had stuck to its own ideas instead of coughing up OOT halfway through, it might have been worth remembering.
Fuck me...as an indie game dev, watching this guy talk is like the moment in Rick and Morty where Morty is pitching his heist movie idea to Netflix, realizing how derivative it is.
You absolutely can miss the timing for Mikiri Counter on the Spear Monk miniboss in the dream area. In fact you can miss it all the way up to encountering a Seven Spears. I know this.. because I did this. Edit : You didn't need them either.. makes the fight easier sure, but it's not impossible.
This is a very good idea. Someone is trying to run with the Stardew Valley genera. There is a unfilled niche that I think this game is trying to fill. I have felt that void myself and have thought many times that we need a more combat heavy stardew valley.
This game has strong RPG Maker vibes. Here's hoping the next trailer does it more justice because it doesn't look unique nor does the concept stand out enough in a very saturated genre.

It's they type of game u would play at an arcade when i was a kid, I like it
i love this style of graphics games
I am so glad he has finally been allowed to release this statement! Been part of the Emberville discord community since before Cohh became a producer for it, great idea and i cant wait for the release.
25 dollars? I know each game may have a different budget and cost for development.
But, man...25$ really?
This is a standard price for a game like this what are you on. ppl dont just work on stuff for years to give to you for a buck. I don't say to my plumber it only took 30 min, ill give you 10$
@@NoDFX_ Not a great analogy. You hire a plumber to do a job that needs to be done, and need a professional to do it. You buy a game because you hope it might entertain you.
Terraira does this progressing QOL perfectly, but that's only because the dev team listened to the community and was willing to look at their complaints.
pixel art indie game with that combat? yeah totally unique.
Him announcing the game on his stream is marketing, not PR. Marketing and PR are not the same.
about mikiri counter, it's not core mechanic in sekiro that's why there isn't that many main boss you can do mikiri counter on them. it's like a nice upgrade but you'd be fine with it. like the whole sekiro combat is revolve around deflecting attack
This game looks like the devs really liked the combat in stardew valley and decided to focus and expand on the combat
@@vickiraytivegames1040 yeah but it still looks good I'll probably get it when it comes out
Knowing Cohh and his taste for video games im very excited for this game i just hope the dev team can keep up with his ideas xD wishing them all the best
This looks exactly like a Player World game like Jerrath I used to play back in the day like 20-25 years ago. Used to be a decent size back then. But super easy to make. They would give you free tiles and was very easy to do did it when I was 13-15 and edit the UI
Qol progression when done right feels very rewarding and addicting.
If it's as consumer friendly as it is pitched to be, I really hope it succeeds despite me not being that into stardew valley esque games.
what about forgotten Heaven and Hearts game was sooo mazing. Super hardcore at the begining, but soo well designed.
Amazing crafting, amazing fishind, housing. BEST gathering system ever maded.
CohhCarnage game looking good
This is right up my street, hope its a winner.
Gameplay description reminds me of Cult of the Lamb, looks great. Retro aesthetics being on the rise for years has been great to see
The visual design is good, simple but effective. The main protagonist needs some more work though, it looks like the character is walking backwards when moving up the screen.
CohhCarnage always reminds me of Prophet Gary in Cyberpunk.
And Nauber in BG3
Funny that
Having the little flame guy spirit immediately gave me Soulblazer Vibes.
I remember him talking about the whole unity situation I think, so this makes a lot of sense.
looks like every other 2d game thats released
FISHING? ok, i will play it.
Ive wanted to make a game like this. Curious to see how successful it'll be
You and the other 300 million people as small indie developers
@@ignizxnr3021 Thats the Problem 90% of the time there's nothing new and it's the 1000s time someone copied basically the same algorithm for procedural generation and threw it in the game...But thats not enough etc.
Remember all good games have a fishing minigame
Curse of Aros vibes. Hopefully better combat system/progression, crafting was awsome.
Cohh is “producing”. That means he’s throwing money at it yall. Not that he’s making it.
Ah thanks, at first I was listening to what Cohh was saying about him having weekly feedback meetings with the dev team, but now I know better in that I should listen to your description of what is actually going on. I now know he was probably lying/obfuscating the truth, whereas you know what ACTUALLY is going on and valiantly informed the rest of us.
You have my thanks.
i usually dont go for the retro looking type games...That being said, I've played Symphony of War, Ogre Tactics, and Songs of Conquests and have loved them so retro 8bit graphics isnt a deal breaker for me. Nice work Asmoongold showing such good support for a fellow creator in Cohh. There's room at the table for everyone to eat!
Added it to my wishlist. Can't wait.
Link to the Past is one of the best games ever made period.
Who ever timed the ads has a sense of humor.
"You know i wouldnt be involved in a game like this if it didnt have extensive..." ad plays
Looks like one of the games of all time.
I'm super interested in this I grew up playing zelda and similar games to this style, my favourite being alundra still play that one to this day.
Really love Chronicon and this looks similar to it, I'm in. Not pre-ordering tho, but will defo wishlist and check development.
Ohh nice to see a Chronicon mention! I know the guy who made it and followed the development early on in the pre-alpha days, really cool it's become that popular! 😄😄
@@AwesomeRepix such a hidden gem for us ARPG afficionados 🥰
looks like a mix of stardew valley and moonlighter
In recent memory only Stardew Valley stands out. I wish him luck and I will support the game for sure.
Stardew came out 7 years ago, says alot about that genre. Truly wish this team the best.
@@JessieDoidge yeah a lot of these games are too similar to be memorable or worth playing pretty excited for this release
23:00 then give 100% mount from elwynn forest spawn ? 20 bags slot x 5 ? free unlimited food ?
nothing wrong with farming quality of life mechanic
I have always wondered why i didn't see more big streamers producing games. Having a recognisable trusted figure as the face for you game surely goes a long way for building trust and good faith on top of the obviously great publicity.
Yeah true but most streamers don’t even know basic coding or how to write a story but it would be cooler to see what ideas what good things come to the table
@@hunterwolfiv ya I mean I'm sure coh is not literally coding the game.
This is the new form of Celebrity Brand Deal. Yall plebes are getting a custom coupon code, Cohh gets a whole game.
Tbf you don’t get mikiri counter until you choose to buy the skill. It’s possible that someone played halfway through Sekiro without knowing how valuable that ability is.
Wow asmon shadow bans a lot of words apparently
I gotta be honest, I swear I missed like the first 2 minutes of what he said because the Cat had all my attention, such a pretty cat! okay, lets start over and listen this time..
Reminds me of Soul Blazer more than anything else. The town building and the wisp that follows you and attacks things seem like they were lifted straight out of it.
That cat is more expensive than my car .
omg thats the prophet dude from cyberpunk
Cohh doin cohh stuff, I hope it goes well. Asmon beard lookin kinda mighty
Sounds like it's trying to be too many things at once and will end up being alright but not great.
We want his cat in the game
Kitty was so confused by his hand movements ^^
I want Cohh to be successful . I will support it.
Looks pretty awesome. Cohh is a good dude.
Grass texture should be 30% less busy on the eyes.
The game's concept seems interesting, and I'll be keeping an eye on it. I agree with Asmon about QoL. It would suck if it's one of those situations where, "Don't worry! It gets better after playing 20 hours!". If those things unlock rather quickly, that's fine, but if the devs put too high of a value on having those basic things, then the player's experience, and the game itself, will suffer.
yet recently Hades did it and what. got alot of awards what it did. so it can be done.
It's called progression, having everything right at the start is boring.
@@ForsakenLogitek It CAN be considered progression IF it's done right. If it's treated like gaining skills, and there's a story related reason for unlocking QoL features, then it'll work. Otherwise it'll seem like they're just trying to artificially make the game harder/longer for no real reason.
every single sfx is from dota 2 lmao
Another pixelated, dungeon crawler, roguelike indie game, daring today arent we
cant wait to see this for an hour during liriks sub sunday
Windwaker was so much better than whatever tf Twilight Princess was supposed to be. If the latter had stuck to its own ideas instead of coughing up OOT halfway through, it might have been worth remembering.
Just a re skin on star dew valley
Fuck me...as an indie game dev, watching this guy talk is like the moment in Rick and Morty where Morty is pitching his heist movie idea to Netflix, realizing how derivative it is.
You absolutely can miss the timing for Mikiri Counter on the Spear Monk miniboss in the dream area.
In fact you can miss it all the way up to encountering a Seven Spears.
I know this.. because I did this.
Edit : You didn't need them either.. makes the fight easier sure, but it's not impossible.
It looks fun! It's definitely something I'd spend my money on.
avarage, but it will be hit since its coming from him ... simple as that.
So glad he mentioned Link to the Past as one of his all time faves. That game I play to completion every year. Its imo one of the only few perfect games, and the greatest zelda game. 3 greatest games of all time imo. Deus Ex, Link to the Past and Metal Gear Solid.
This actually looks quite interesting.
