ISP arrests a DUI and evader, courts give a susoended sentence and a 775 fine. I get radared "13 over" (it was actually the guy who passed me, but with out of state plates, I am an easier target) by ISP, and they want to charge me a third of that. So dui and fleeing is worth only 3x a speeding ticket. Good to know!

I was going to say the same thing. 48 in a 35, no previous tickets in 15 years. The DA gave me a “deal” turning the speeding ticket to unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. I wanted to avoid points so my insurance wouldn’t increase. Didn’t know there was a difference between state DMV points and insurance points so I took it. It turned an $85 ticket to a $250 ticket with a $150 state surcharge, so $400+ court cost. OK with that to avoid insurance increase. I wound up with the highest fine that day which included a 90+ in a 65 zone, and a drug arrest. Then on top of it my insurance went up 30% anyway! Different state I know, but this guy flees, drives recklessly, and is OWI, gets not even double my fine, most charges dismissed, and no jail time. UGH.
So the Indiana state police have a policy that all “patrons” ride in the front with the officer. They do not have cages in their car. I believe this is based on a study that shows officers are safer this way. They also I believe feel that this helps their rider feel calmer but I don’t know this for fact. Each trooper is trained in hand to hand combat and go through simulations of fighting a suspect in the car. All weapons are also locked in the vehicle.

He refused the PBT and chemical tests which results in license suspension. It's not just the fine--it's the OWI charge, the fine, AND a two-year suspension of his license, plus good luck getting insurance with that on your record.

Also a HUGE misconception about the Indiana state police is that they are a highway patrol agency only. This is untrue. Ohio highway patrol is exactly that. A highway patrol. CHP (highway patrol) a state trooper has jurisdiction in multiple counties. The state police is an assisting agency who fill in where there are cracks. They are not bound to the highway although you may see them there more than a rural or city office/ department.

I've never heard of a Chicago Trooper. Our law enforcement here are called police not troopers. Chicago Police Department to be exact. We have State Troopers who work for the state of Illinois not just Chicago.

Take a deep breath, relax, and stay in your position for containment to the front. Let the two initiate the felon stop. If you think you need to join, then go around and group up with them. Don't create a cross fire situation by running to the front of the car. You can also get ran over. Running down the freeway with your gun pointed at the car with two troopers behind him holding stop sticks, while you probably left your patrol vehicle unsecured looked very professional. It is about team work and this officer was acting as if he was the only one who could save the day. Do not let ego take over tactics.

What a joke that sentence was at the end , lame ass prosecutors wanting an easy win and a judge not tough enough to reject that poor excuse of a deal. He’s hammered and driving extremely dangerously on the highway, being that close to a semi and losing control could have resulted in a catastrophic crash with multiple fatalities. Shame on a terrible judicial system
