Great video, very to the point! Had the exact problem. Tried to get a new tensioner from the NAPA and Lordco Auto Parts, but it didn't come with the new bolt. My truck had an original tensioner so I ended up at Ford, for the same price, came with the hardware. Ford Part Number 3L5Z-6B209-AA 3L 1995-2000
Man, I wish I had known this a year ago. Super duty had the exact same speak and I couldn't figure it out. Not until it the tensioner broke and the belt took out the upper radiator hose. Now I know. Thanks for sharing.
I have had that squeak for years, and have replaced both the belt and idler a couple of times. I was befuddled because with a quick shot of WD-40 on the belt it went away. I went out and did the same check you showed, and bingo that was it. My next door neighbor thanks you. She has been listening to that old Mazda Truck start up early in the morning for years.
My 2002 dodge caravan just starting squealing after driving 3 miles to the grocery store. Never expected to hear what was coming from my caravan, after putting all kinds of work into it less than a year ago. Belt is new. So one of the things spinning On that belt is going out. Day two begins. Thanks again for the idea to check the pullies first.
Dear Daniel, First time viewing one of your video's. Very professionally executed, and a joy to watch. You definitely have the gift of being an excellent teacher. Thank you for the tutorial, and I look forward to seeing more of your productions! All the best from New Rochelle N.Y.
I already knew the tensioner is almost more important than the belt itself. I can run 10+ year old quality belts as long as its tensioned well, its perfectly quiet. Get a bad automatic tensioner and no new belt can fix it. Not a common problem for me, as a diyer I only had that once. "New" junk yard tensioner and it was nicely quiet again. (the car wasn't worth doing a lot to). I haven't changed a belt in years. I work on cars about the 20 year old mark. They still run great, so why get rid of them.
Your tensioner was definitely out however I just installed a new serpentine belt on my f150 and then I had a loud chirping noise. I discovered the belt was ever so slightly misaligned. I aligned it better on the alternator and the noise went away.
Great video, very interesting observation, i have a 2004 ba falcon with a squeek, i replaced the tensioner pulley only,i'll have another look, cheers from Aus❤
Hey! I noticed this EXACT same thing while replacing the serpentine in my ranger. The tensioner doesn't move like yours, but it's about to judging by this sound. It matches. You just saved me money. Subscribed.
Great Video! This is exactly what was causing the squeaking on my 2001 Ford Ranger.. I had changed out the Serpentine Belt and still had squeaking! installed a new Belt Tension Pulley and noise is gone! Thanks!
my BA ford has the same issue, i will have to check the tensioner to confirm it thx. update couldnt see any movement or belt onesided but replaced the belt with a new one and it was still the same and then i replaced the belt tensioner and that resolved the issue, thank you.
I had the same problem with a Chevy S-10. Now when I change out a belt I buy the kit from Gates, it includes a new belt, new tensioner and a new idler pulley
Also you should note that the previous belt might have been Goodyear Gatorback Poly-V Serpentine Belts is why might not squeaked as it more tolerant to misaligned pulley.
The squeak on startup was baffling. I replaced the belt and pulleys but didn’t replace the tensioner because it only had 60k miles on it. Getting a tensioner tomorrow!
I have a 1999 Ford Ranger that I bought a couple of days ago and I notice that squeaking when I accelerate, leading me to think it's the idler pulley but I may take a look at the tensioner after watching this.
@@herbdean5296 Unfortunately no, I ended up losing her a while back after spinning out on a rainy night and slamming into a barrier. I had replaced my tensoir on my 97 sierra. Didn't need to but my friend bought a 98 Chevy Silverado and his was toast like that one so I just threw on my old one cause it had some life still in it. I do need to do my idler pulley i can hear the bearings in it are drying up it looks like that one.
My ranger is in the shop for the belt chirp. Yesterday when to pick it up and behold it was still chirping. The mechanic was scratching his head at why it was still chirping. Today if it's still chirping when I pick it up, I'll say we'll look at that the tensioner looks bad. 😏
Your message seems a bit ominous. Best of luck in whatever is happening, really hope everything works out for the best. Like the vids and will say that they have been helpful. Hope so see you and your channel soon.
My belt never squealed until my mechanic but a new belt on. I don't know what he did, but maybe it's a misalignment like in this video. I tried spraying something on it to fix it, which seems to have worked for now, but yes this is an interesting possibility...
Great video! I'm hoping this is the same problem I have with my car right now. My car has been squeaking even after replacing the belt and my mechanic can't figure out why. My car only squeaks/chirps while idle and sometimes when I step on the gas. The squeaks only starts when my car is warm too. It does not squeak while I'm driving. Was this the case for you or was it a constant squeaking when your car was warm?
@@joshcook5154 After a while my check engine light came on so I took it to a Honda dealership. After taking things apart, they said I needed to replace my coil packs and spark plugs. I didn't do it right away but it seemed like the squeaking stopped after the put the car back together. I did get the 2 of the coil packs and spark plugs replaced in another garage shortly after (way cheaper). The sound hasn't come back since. Whether it was just taking things apart and putting it back together or indeed changing the coil packs and spark plugs, I'm not certain but I'm happy that the chirping stopped :)
This did not help me at all as I am dealing with an 09 Corolla that has started squeaking after a water pump replacement but since you asked nicely, I liked your video! Have a great day. and TGIF
my buddy had his friend install a new pulley because the old one was completely shot and would shake violently, however after he installed the new pulley the shake is gone but it has a squeal at start up, so I'm guessing it's misaligned, now I have to go fix a brand new pulley
I have a faint squeak and it happened after I replaced the tensioner and I’ve checked everything and it’s all good belts pretty much new as well it’s not noise but I can hear it when you rev up the engine like it’s tiny squeak not going to turn heads as I drive down the road but it’s bothering me. I didn’t understand what’s up and all the pulleys and accessories are lined up dead straight on so I don’t know.
Oh my god!!! This is EXACTLY what my car sounds like! And i couldn't figure it out. I brought my car to a mechanic and he told me it was an idler pulley, I replaced it myself and it STILL SQUEAKED!!! Never put anything on a belt ,you need a new belt and tensioner ,both should be replace together, this idea may work for short time tile you get replacement parts but not like your doing, this belt is slipping causing tensioner release throughout the system , also belt can slip off pulled causing possible major issues like stranded due to belt taking out radiator cooling line let’s say for transmission, or an electric fan . for less then a hundred bucks in most cases it’s well worth it to replace. Not to mention a tow at about 150 bucks. You can lead a horse to water ,but if no water horse die ( just saying )
