Swallot vs Muk I like too. I need to update my xp curve spreadsheet for the fluctuating growth rate before that. Right now fluctuating and erratic are sitting in the side with a bunch of "error" cells 😅
Thank you! I originally saw Scott's Thoughts doing the multi-run format and it makes so much sense to me. Scyther stood no chance in playthrough one but with some experience and routing did so much better. I find it to be much more fair and... err.. scientific... considering how much subjectivity exists 😅
@Eggsceptional exactly, I think going around a second time just makes things far more fair once you take in all the different strategies you come up with in run 1. Looking forward to more videos man :)
Loving the graphics! Your videos are always very well done, but I appreciate seeing how you're improving things in every video. Awesome work! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you so much! I've been working hard and striving towards producing the type and quality of content that I like to watch. I'm glad you're enjoying it :)
A dual run of the Psuedo legendary lines would be cool! Dragonite vs Tyranitar or Salamence vs Metagross. Might have to start with final evos for Salamence vs Metagross because Beldum only learns Take Down lol
Good show sir! Quite good information on the details and I also really like the egg move variation you add to the pokemon. If I were to suggest a run it would be Kingler and Crawdaunt. Looking forward to more videos from you
Thank you!! I love adding a single egg move it adds so much strategic diversity. Scyther without Reversal would have been AWFUL! We're of the same mind with the battle of the crabs.. crustaceans? It's on the list :)
Hey that's awesome to hear! And yeah I can imagine it would've been very difficult without reversal, I'd thought about it's lackluster move selection in early games going in and I really was happy to see it got a better chance because of that
another eggcellent run sir. I like what you did with Pinsir, I love this big bug, it is such a beast, although I play around with the idea of reusable TM's. you can buy copies of Brick Break and Dig and as long as you can pick them up have HP. my last Pinsir had Rock Tomb and Aerial Ace most of the run and I would switch between Brick Break, Dig and HP ghost for the whole run and only adding and keeping Earthquake and Rock Slide at the league and post game. I found with this moveset I had near total type coverage for the whole run. Scyther is a hard one to run, but you did so well with it, I commend you for it
Thank you! Pinsir was a more fun to play but Scyther was BY FAR the more fun and rewarding one to route. Discovering those Reversal ranges was so awesome. I actually forgot that you could buy Brick Break at the Dept store. Dig, of course :)
@@Eggsceptional I never considered Reversal for Scyther, if I give it an egg for Fire Red runs, I give it Silver Wind, its good STAB and can give an omni-boost, I was gonna ask why didn't you evolve it for the post game, but then figured you'd do Scizor for another run maybe VS Heracross. the department store is quite helpful like. keep dig in mind for Parasect if you do a run with that dig is one of its better moves (it has a very poor moveset) also Brick Break for Beedrill, again one of its best moves. I love my Gen 1 bugs
I'll need to do some serious research towards the Bugs then. I had no idea Beedrill could learn Brick Break. I was going to give Scyther Silver Wind if I'd had Technician, but it fell short against Brock. Like really short :(
@@Eggsceptional Brock is always a challenge if you can't hit it with special or super effective damage, good for you that Scyther could have Reversal for him. I think Pursuit might of worked with a little luck if you didn't have it, but it would of been rough. Beedrill will be a challenge against Brock, if I may suggest without back seating gaming, set up Harden against the Geodude and try to poison and if you level up enough use Focus Energy to maybe get some crits. the only other option is an hour of grinding or levels and Pursuit
Pinsir might be my favorite Bug-type (and Bug might be my favorite type), but Scyther's not far behind. (I remember Pinsir being quite good in HeartGold, although it gets overshadowed by what's-their-name there.) The results make sense with Pinsir being the slower, more intuitive & dependable one & Scyther being harder to use well but gets greater results when done so. Nice video!
Thank you! I plan on doing HG/SS videos at some point in the future but for now I'm focusing on the quality of my FR content. I had a lot of fun with both Pokémon and definitely look forward to doing Heracross, Scizor, and even other Bugs like Butterfree in the future.
Woo! The "cool" Gen 1 bugs - bug just might be my favorite type, but Gen 1 movepools did Scyther and Pinsir (especially Scyther) SO dirty. The poison-antidote-Reversal strategy was awesome! Also, I feel like Hyper Cutter is a more useful ability for Pinsir, at least in FRLG. It helps you a lot with Intimidate mons like the Gyarados and Arbok. All Mold Breaker would do in FRLG is let you hit the Levitate mons with Earthquake, which would just be Koffing/Weezing and the ghosts (all of which you used hidden power and substitute for and had little trouble with). Overall, I think Hyper Cutter is more useful here. Technician not being available really sucks though. With the limited good bug moves and bug moves' bad overall coverage, Swarm is almost entirely useless. Oh, and it would probably be "put ideas into practice" rather than "put them to paper," for the digital version of the phrase. This was a fun video! Definitely wasn't expecting the substitute strategies being so prominent, but I think it was super interesting to see non-intuitive sub mons use the move.
Oh I know! Those movesets! I was heartbroken when I realized I couldn't use Technician for Scyther. I was going to choose Silver Wind and see if I could make a go of it with Tech. but without it Reversal was so good. Honestly, I was only excited about hitting Agatha's ghosts with Earthquake with Mold Breaker 😅 I agree that Hyper Cutter was incredibly useful throughout the run after the first Intimidates at Rival 3. Got you with the putting down ideas. Admittedly, I do blue screen sometimes. You know me! Sub strats best strats. I'm trying to not rely on them for a run. It isn't going well 😔
That was 100% just a missed colour on my part. I haven't had the time to properly automate making my movesets more so their still being made fully manually. Any mistakes are my own :) Thanks for letting me know!
You can drop the save file from your game into the software and edit all kinds of fun things! The projectpokemon website has great resources on how to set everything up :)
I was discussing a tournament style bracket with someone else but I don't know about re-running Pinsir again. There will be some serious diminishing returns on time gains as I play again. I can absolutely do a Hera video and still compare the times vs Scy and Pin :)
@somedude112 Thanks for your support :) I've been looking at Heracross ever since doing Scyther VS Pinsir. I have a sneaking suspicion Hera will kick some butt :) especially considering how many time the Round 2 Champ's has kicked mine...
@@Eggsceptional yeah heracross secondary fighting type got rid of its rock weakness and its also just a good pokemon he also has stats similiar to scyther and pinsir the only con for me is its 4x weakness to flying but its ok because heracross is so cool
@somedude112 Agreed! There aren't too many instances where the 4x weakness to flying will be an issue. Pretty much the Rival fights are all that stand out immediately, and with Rock Tomb from Brock early, I see options :)
you would think they upgraded ai of trainers in this reformed firered version.. dewgong in the 2nd round champion spamming double team instead of ice/aurora beam vs flying type .. D: D: wp nevertheless )) But that 1hp scyther strat was bang on :D
They did upgrade the AI in these games! Sometimes I find it's easy to forget how old FRLG are as games. I loved pulling that Reversal strat out for Brock. Eureka moments are the best :D
With 55 SpA, Shrimp definitely should've just been adamant nature. Even if you did use any special moves ever, it would've been barely any weaker since it's a 10% drop, so effectively base 49 SpA vs dropping your speed to an effective base 94 from 105
That's a good point! Proportionally a reduction of 10% is far less on the weaker SpA stat. Natures are something I struggle with sometimes in these runs thanks for the perspective :)
@@Eggsceptional Yeah, they can be complicated. Personally, I prefer for solo runners to use neutral natures for all of their Pokemon just for a base comparison across all Pokemon that won't give any a real advantage over others, like Pokemon that exclusively use Physical or Special attacks effectively get a 10% bonus in their main attacking stat for free since they can drop the other at no cost to themselves while mixed attackers always have to take a hit to a stat they'll use. But it all comes down to perspective. Being able to better benefit from natures could be considered something that innately makes one Pokemon more favorable over another.
@@Chronoflation That's a fair point. I do like leaning into the natures when I can because I feel like that comes with the "flavour" of any individual Pokémon. Whenever I struggle with it though I always just default to neutral because it's reliable!

Wow, GameFreak really did Scyther so dirty in Gen3. Swarm as an ability on a Pokémon that only learns a single Bug-type move at level 46, and that move being Furry Cutter. Silver Wind as an egg move is poor consolation.
I know right? This is definitely a run that I'm REALLY looking forward to re-doing in Gen 4 with Technician/X-Scissor and all of it's glory. The second playthrough was still fun :)

I don't randomize the starters! Swarm is the only ability that Scyther had in Gen 3. Technician would have been way better but it didn't exist until Gen 4!
Well my snap judgement is that Tropius wins because Flying > Fighting as a typing in the Gen 3 remakes. Super cool idea to explore thank you! It's now on the list.
@@Eggsceptional Breloom VS Medicham might be interesting too. The dual fighting types of Gen 3. Breloom and Tropius share the same stat total at 460. Medicham only has 410 total stats and they are distributed pretty evenly so it's lack luster in terms of stats. However, Medicham's move pool is ridiculous. That might give it a sneaky advantage and/or give it a super in-depth way to optimize a run.
I'll have to look into them further but my snap reactipn is that Tropius vs Breloom would be a better match up. Medicham deserves a video of it's own simply because of Pure Power. Starting every fight at +1 would give a serious advantage to Medi. These are great suggestions thank you!
