    Does it really matter which brand of window I choose? Are they all the same thing with different stickers? Windows, like most manufactured products, have a lot of variation when it comes to design and quality, and the axiom, "You get what you pay for." holds true here.

    On that second Windsor window that is white...what series is that? Also, the one next to it the black Amsco window what series is that? I love your window videos but you often do not mention the particular style line the window is in? Sometimes there are multiple line of vinyl windows that each brand carries so doing an in depth video on the different lines would be super helpful!!!

    Hi Jeff, Love your videos. Very informative and I learn a lot. I think I already know the answer to this question but l’ll ask anyway.
    My wife and I live in the Northern Midwest and are talking to builders with plans to build a new house. Several builders use Silverline vinyl windows as their standard window. Until a few years ago Silverline was owned by Andersen Window Company. My wife and I prefer to have Pella vinyl windows, either Encompass or their 250 Series used.
    Q: Is there a major difference in quality between these two vinyl windows?
    Thanks for your input!

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that they are probably identical and most regards. Certainly the glass is the same. However, I would prefer Pella in this case because they have a more recognizable brand name. Not that that would matter today, but it would when you went to sell the home, if ever.

    Hey Jeff great videos, think I’ve seen them all. I’m replacing windows in my house and am torn and was hoping maybe you could help. My living room has an 83” wide opening. Some companies are saying that’s not wide enough for a picture window and want to install two double hungs. Some are pushing the picture window. I’m worried the openings on the picture window might look silly being so narrow. Which is what pella told me. Thoughts?

      I can't see any reason why you could not make that a picture window. The only reason I wouldn't do it is if you needed it to be an escape window for a bedroom.

      @@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the reply. I have 48 talls in the bedrooms and one company said I couldn’t do the double hungs because of the escape window code. But the other 4 companies including pella themselves haven’t mentioned it. I really want the double hungs over the sliders.

    Jeff, thanks for all the videos, very informative! I really like NT Window. I've had them before. I want to get them in a new house (i'm in the dfw area). The installer is telling me he's sells NT but would not recommend them. He said burris, vistamark, allside are ones he would recommend over NT. This was surprising to me. I'm also looking for sound reduction. is dissimilar glass just as good as laminated glass? I know laminated glass is more expensive I think because it is more durable, won't shatter into pieces of hit or smashed. I'm being told that dissimilar glass would not only be cheaper than laminated but would even be better than laminated where sound reduction is concerned, unless of course I went with .90 laminated which is really overkill and cost prohibitive. Any advice you can provide would be much appreciated. Hopefully your thoughts on this will help many other with the same questions. thanks!

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching my videos and for your question. I cannot understand why the window dealer you're visiting with would recommend those other brands over NT. In my opinion NT is the best brand of the ones you've mentioned. There must be an economical benefit to your dealer for recommending those, or he buys very few products from NT and therefore his pricing is not competitive. I would suggest looking for a new window dealer to get some more information. Go check out a website I built just for this purpose.
      JeffsList.com
      As far as sound reduction is concerned, offset glass is good but not as good as laminated glass. The truth is that it's hard to decide what would be best for you because I don't know much about your sound issues. If you have an extreme sound issue, you would probably need to switch to a special window that's designed for sound reduction. Your second best option would be laminated glass, your third best option would be offset glass, your fourth best option would be standard double pane glass. I hope this has been of help to you.

      @@HoustonWindowExperts since I have had nt windows before, and I bought them before because of all the research I did, I was surprised he said that. He first said if you get it installed and "don't mess with it too much" its fine. He said the problem he has seen with NT windows, that you can pull the sash away from the glass; the silicone adhesive they use doesn't hold tight to the glass; and sometimes installers accidentally do that when installing the window. Then he followed that up with saying he would love the NT window if it was sold for 20% cheaper. He said if you open and close your window everyday, NT is not what you want as he thinks the locking mechanism puts too much pressure on the sash and it will wear out fast.
      My sound issue is highway noise I get from 1/4 mile away, especially when the wind blows a certain way (rumbling 18 wheelers, gunning engines), and I happen to be pretty noise sensitive. He said that type of low frequency is the hardest to reduce. If I go with laminated glass, is .30 good enough? Is it even worth going to .60 or .90 which I realize gets VERY expensive. I still want to get NT; I'm just stuck now on deciding on dissimilar or laminated glass, and if laminated, is .30 good enough or do I need to go higher. Thanks again Jeff! I'll check out your website too.

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for following up with me on this. I think he is mistaken about the NT windows. I have probably installed three or 4,000 of them over the last 10 years and have never had any issues. Sound reduction is very subjective and I would hate to give too strong of an opinion. I would say that if you had to make a mistake, make it I'm going over the top instead of saving money. If you save money and then regret it, you'll have to do it again. Last thing you want is to spend money on Windows having expectations that are not met.

    • @mcdeigo
      @mcdeigo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HoustonWindowExperts Jeff, I agree, would not be a good feeling to regret if I did not go with the better option of laminated windows. SO, with that said, I plan on going with the .90 laminated glass with NT. question, is there a huge weight difference between .30 laminated and .90?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd guess it's 5% heavier? I'm not sure that it matters once they are installed.

    In the construction industry 25 years is considered a lifetime. I.e. a lifetime warranty in a construction grade product is 25 years.
    Therefore a triple lifetime warranty is 75 years.
