Jeff, thanks for providing this information. I'm building new construction in Georgia and looking at a vinyl window by Boral; specifically, the Crestmark Collection. I believe this window is made in Texas. Are you familiar with this window? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Do you have any thoughts on the Alside Mezzo window vs Pella 250? I am currently window shopping and the 2 companies that came out were offering these windows. Any guidance is appreciated.
The Pella 250 it's the better of the two in my opinion. Of course, the installation is the most important part! Make sure you've got that handled. If you need someone, let me know, please.

Hello! We are building a home and looking at windows!! I have loved your videos! We are looking at vinyl windows due to cost mostly. I would like black/black but am finding most vinyl are black exterior white on the interior. What would your recommendation be for a good quality, fade resistant (lots of west facing windows in central Texas/Austin area) that either is black/black or black/white. Thank you!
Thank you for watching and for your question. The problem with going with a black vinyl window that is also black on the interior, is it the price is so high that you might as well consider going to an extruded aluminum product at that point. For about the cost of a black on black vinyl window, you could go ahead and consider buying an NT aluminum window, a Don Young aluminum window, or the Pella and Impervia fiberglass window. I would look into those options as well.
@@HoustonWindowExpertsThank you for your quick response. If we went with a white interior but black exterior vinyl what would your recommendation be? We will have lots of west facing windows in the Austin area.
Jeff thanks for the many great educational videos. I’ve learned a tremendous amount of info about windows because of your efforts. We’re replacing 28 windows in a 1990 home located in central VA and some of our local area choices haven’t been addressed in your many videos. One of the top rated companies here uses ProVia windows. Do you have an opinion on their quality you’d be willing to share. Thanks a bunch for your time and please keep up the videos.
They do offer a simple grid for their windows. It can be between the glass or on the surface. You might be able to see some images of it on their website.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I looked at their website, and it looks like they don't have a dealer in our area. But that's okay, because I really like the Windsor window you showed us, and they do. Thank you for the videos.
Jeff - we’re doing a new construction and my doors & windows guy is telling me that getting a vinyl window in black is almost the same price as a wood window because of the additional labor to paint the white vinly window in black. Is that true? In that case why would anyone get a black vinyl window?
He's uninformed. I'd talk to someone more knowledgeable on the subject. I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Question for the DYI person ... Do you have a video or can share your thoughts on American Craftsman by Plygem windows (formerly by Anderson)? These are commonly available at retail stores like Home Depot. Thank you and God bless.
Hi, I don't know much about their product but I do know that it's made for them by jeldwen. Here's what I found online about their product. www.replacementwindowsreviews.co/company/american-craftsman-windows-reviews.html
I was searching for info on wincore 8800 windows and your video came up. I have a quote from WW for impact windows. I believe those are wincore 8800 so I was looking for any reviews about those. Do you have any feedback on wincore 8800 windows. Looks like they use the cardinal stormbreaker glass. I am in a coastal county (just south of Houston though) in a 2 story home and don't want to mess with boarding up windows if a bad storm hits. Thanks!
I'm not familiar with the Wincore windstorm product. I've only had experience with their non windstorm products. The owner of Simonton Windows started this company after he sold Simonton Windows about 15 years ago. I've met him personally and I think he makes a great product. The only reason I don't like it is because of how wide the profile is which is going to be unavoidable when you're talkin about impact rated windows.
Awesome video i learn so much thank you. I'm in a market for 14 new windows. Been doing a lot of research on windows and i'm glad i found y'all. Hi Jeff, I live the Northern Virginia have you heard of these two manufactures so first I got a bid for Zen Lotus Soft-Lite Pro Series for $4,600.00 and a bid for OKNA EnviroStar 800 for $5,600.00 do you think it's worth spending the extra $1,000.00 for 5 windows in my town house. Are the Soft-lite are good brand? I just don't want to make a bad choice. Thanks
I know the products and quality that Zen windows has been using across the country. I think they are really good products and are installed very well. I would prefer them.
I'm sorry to say I'm not familiar with him at all. Sometimes brands that I've never heard of her actually made by a larger company and they have a private label on them. That's not uncommon with a big box store like Lowe's or home Depot. I would try to figure out who makes it for them and that way you can get a better understanding of the products. Do any of your vinyl lines have metal reinforced frames? I’m looking for a very hot desert environment and I heard vinyl expands too much in extreme heat. Do you think fiberglass would be better? And how about black frames in the desert? Thanks.
Thank you for watching and your question. Vinyl is going to have a harder time in a hotter climate. Some brands of vinyl were specifically built for desert climates and have additional ingredients in their composition for that purpose. My favorite vinyl for the dessert is the Amsco Retoration series. It also has metal reinforcement and uses a capstock material instead of paint. (So you can have a black window). Fiberglass is also great, but don't confuse that with Fibrex. Fibrex is not fiberglass.
I have been taken, used, , robbed, I bought some Don Young windows. They probably were not installed very good. I’m tired of thinking about them. I just don’t like, the material, the glass is too dark. Etc. I don’t think I’ll get my money back. The locks don’t work anymore on the sliding windows. The owner of company keeps putting me off, I don’t want them back. I need some help, I would like some suggestions. I live in Mid cities area close to DFW airport. Dallas Ft. Worth area. Pam
To my knowledge they are the same windows that you would get out of their home plant in freeburg missouri. I like all of their products and I think they are on The cutting Edge of design and function.
I as well feel like my family has learned a lot about all types of windows. I was set on Windsor Vinyl. I received a quote from Sierra Pacific saying their Vinyl was better any thoughts and can you do a comparison. Aloha and 😊 for keeping us all informed.
Ask your Sierra Pacific rep, "Better how?" All manufacturers are going to have slight differences in their vinyl formulas but as long as you're selecting a premium vinyl, which both Windsor and Sierra Pacific have, you're getting good vinyl material. Really think about what is important to you and get those points checked off, when it's all said and done you are the one that is going to have to live with them.
A quick visit to Amsco's website indicates that the "Restoration" product line has been discontinued. What is the closest in their current product line? Any dealers in Fort Worth?
I have heard a lot of good things about them. The latest thing I heard, was that they got bought out by another company. I could have heard wrong. If they did get bought out, it would be important for you to find out who bought them and what their reviews look like. Sometimes a terrible company buys a great one and ruins it.
I sell doors and windows for a company based in Philly, we’re called Guida Door & Window. I really appreciate your videos! I am always trying to learn and invigorate my industry knowledge and training and your expertise and experience is tremendously helpful. I’ll check ya out if I’m ever in Houston! As far as Soft Lite, I hadn’t heard that yet! I’ll be looking into that ASAP. Thanks again, Jeff!
Do you know anything about Alliance Hawthorne series vs Anderson 200 vs Simonton Impression series. And we want a wood grain laminate if we go with vinyls to match the stained frames we have in the house. Will the laminate curl or wear or tear as we have two dogs too.
I am not familiar with alliance at all. I do believe that the Anderson 200 would be the best product of the three you mentioned. It is made out of real wood. I used to sell the simonton products that had the simulated wood grain interior but found him to be very fake looking and easily damaged. Having a couple of dogs May make things worse for the durability of that window. Thank you for watching!
@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the quick reply honestly I wish u were in Michigan. I’m leaning towards the Anderson’s personally might be work to stain them but I want a good window as we never plan on moving from this house we’re in. The original windows are still in the house built 86 era and their all wood and the outside has been painted and they’ve taken a beating. So rather than have them repainted I just wanna get em replaced, and I’m only talking about the backside of the house 13 windows and a new patio door, now it’s a French and I want a slider and got quoted for an Anderson 400 series door too. I don’t want white vinyl in the inside as all the trim is stained so I want it to match.
And Anderson’s being he price they are we may only do now like 8 that are pretty beat up plus the door just for cost measures. Idk if that’s something you’d recommend but I get everyone’s finances are different. I’d tell ya the price but don’t wanna post it, but I’m sure you can figure it out being in window business and all p, the installer comes highly recommended so I’m good with that.
I heard a saying that I believe is quite true in my industry. Never enough money to do it right the first time but always enough money to do it again. I think you are smart to do fewer windows but do it right! I wish you all the best.
Amsco’s website states they use Cóze glass, not cardinal. Do you have an opinion on that glass? Building soon but wanting to use Amsco based on this video until I saw it’s a different glass than what you said.
Coze is the name they gave to the Cardinal glass. Andersen calls it Low-e 4. (Low-e triple coat PLUS Argon = 4). Almost every manufacturer will give it their own proprietary came. The reason they do that is so that when you go to Google search for that proprietary name you keep running into their website instead of another company's website. However, the glass is still made by Cardinal Glass in most cases.
Hey Jeff, I just recently have found your videos, they have been very informative for us. We are in the Charlotte N.C. area. I was wondering if you know anything about the Nirvana window brand, and if you may possibly know of any reputable window companies in the Charlotte area. Obviously, vinyl isn't entry-level product into the world of windows. These three products I demonstrated are the best in their category. The quality of ingredients they use, the machinery, and the attention to detail is superb.
Can you tell me some of the composite frame differences? Is one better than the other? Home Depot has composite windows, but curious about Pella or Windsor?
Thank you for watching and for your question. Andersen's composite window is a blended product of vinyl and wood. Pella's composite product is a true fiberglass product. There are major differences between the two. If you go to Pella's website, you can find a page devoted to the comparisons.
I've never sold them but I've looked at them carefully. Unfortunately, I believe it's an entry grade product. If you're looking to flip a house or get rid of your house in a short period of time, it will probably do the trick well enough.
Jim, Thank you for watching! Yes, we do have a great company in SA that we recommend. I don't like to mention names in the comments though. If you'd email me I'll get you their information. jeff@houstonwindowexperts.com
I've really enjoyed your videos. I'm wondering if you have any comments on Vistamark windows? I live in Austin and they have been recommended by several window companies. I'm impressed that they use Cardinal Glass, especially given that you say it's 90-95% of the window. Any experience with them? We're able to get a better deal on them then some other high end windows, but want to make sure we're in safe territory. Thanks!
Thank you for watching and your question. I don't know anything about this window company but I did go to their website and saw their windows. It appears to be a standard vinyl product with a thicker profile than I care for. It may be a great product but it's definitely very chunky. If that's okay with you, it looks like it might be worth moving forward with. Remember, more important than what window you buy, is who installs it. Make sure you're completely comfortable with the company you're buying the window from, and you should be safe.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Wow, thanks for the ultra quick response. I wasn't expecting that! In the meantime I also sent you an e-mail to you as well to see if you had any recommendations for window companies in the Austin area. if you do, would really appreciate it either here or to my email. I started a website where you can find a great window dealer in your area. These are companies that I know personally and can recommend. Check out TheWindowExperts.com
Check out the companies warranties here is an example - keep in mind - Argon gas is what gives a window its insulation value. Windsor does not warrant the percentage of inert gas present in high-performance products. Gas dissipates over time at different rates depending upon use and conditions. Pella says pretty much the same thing.
The Pella website said the series 350 is discontinued. Is that true? I am looking for a good window to install in a Basement to handle New York weather.
Yes, it is. A premium vinyl window is an option just consider that most of your performance is going to come through selecting the right glass package.
Lets talk about sash support systems. They don't last forever in any brand of window. Average life of a sash balance is about 10 to 15 years. I've replaced thousands of them in all types of windows.
Hi i'm in Fort Lauderdale fl how can I get you to help me with a big picture window 1975 it's being there . I would like to change it to two nice glass windows
Thanks for watching! Most of Windsor windows are at about 4-6 weeks in production. There are other factors such as how backed up your installation crews are that can contribute to overall lead times. I hope I've answered your question. Jeff
@@HoustonWindowExperts they have been hounding me to get them they can finish :P. Any other brand you would recommend with a lower lead time or 4-6 is standard these days ? Probably just going to go with the Marvin elevate :) Thanks !

Scott. Thank you for watching and your comment. Please let me know how things go today. I do like SoftLite but I haven't had any experience with them in many years.
Jeff, thanks for providing this information. I'm building new construction in Georgia and looking at a vinyl window by Boral; specifically, the Crestmark Collection. I believe this window is made in Texas. Are you familiar with this window? Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I have heard of the name but I do not know anything about them. Sorry.
Great presentation!
Thank you for watching
So which one was the best
I'd suggest the Windsor Classic.
Very informative video! I've looked at several of his and they were all good. We've been looking at windows for awhile now and it's good to see the comparisons between companies. I wish you were in Dallas, I would call you in a minute!
Are Goergetown window series good product? I have a company proposing this as a replacement window for my house. Thanks
I'm sorry to say that I've never heard of them. I wish I had more information for you. Have you checked out JeffsList.com yet?
What are your thoughts on Simanton 6500 series
They are an average window. Definitely not a premium vinyl product but good.
Window install company in NYC only offers Okna Windows. Bad sign?
I know that OKNA is a good product. However, any company that only has one product line must be very narrow and their scope. If you're doing a great job for many different clients, you're going to need more than one product in your Arsenal. I think it would be wise for you to check with someone who has more than one brand of products available.
If you're looking for a great window company near you, check out my website, I may know somebody in your area that I can recommend.

I like and sell the provia doors. I do not know much about their windows but I'm sure they are of the same level of quality as the door.
Jeff do you know a company in Los Angeles that you can recommend. Thanks

Thank for the detailed info. What are your thought about the Simonton Daylight Max vinyl windows ? as comped to Windsor in this window. Thanks.
I like the Windsor a lot more. I replied to you other question on the other video.
Thanks a bunch!
Seems like Windsor is also not available in Seattle area 😕 🤷♂️
Loving your videos! Do you know any installers you could recommend in nyc?
Hi! Please check out JeffsList.com
Great video, except, I am interested in having some type of grid, and would have liked to have seen that on the Amsco window, as well.
That's great! Keep me posted on the progress, please.

I wish we have your company here in New Orleans b/c all the window seller here are full of BS. Do you have any company in New Orleans you recommend me to buy from? Thanks again for the putting out these very educational videos.
John, I don't know anyone in your area. I'd suggest a search on Yelp for someone with at least 4.5 stars and more than 20 reviews.
Also best analogies in Houston!
Hahaha 😁
Hello Jeff, not sure if you will see this comment. Do you have any idea about okna 600 series windows?
I think they make a really good product. I do not know much about their customer service, their warranty, or their installation process.

The Restoration Series

Are the Soft-lite are good brand? I just don't want to make a bad choice. Thanks
I know the products and quality that Zen windows has been using across the country. I think they are really good products and are installed very well. I would prefer them.
Any thoughts on Lindsay Pinnacle windows?
I'm not familiar with them. I wish I could be of more help.
Any information on the brand United?
Saw them at Lowes and was curious, no one was working the dept, and liked the way they looked. Thanks
Thank you for watching and your comments.

You're welcome, thank you for watching.
Thanks!

Your opinion on quaker windows made in Missouri?

Yes. I never order one without.

They look awesome. Ok ya probably the best looking grid combination I've seen.
Thoughts on Sierra pacific vinyl clad?
Good stuff. I like the H3 product.
Do you recommend Simonton Daylight Max? Great videos!
I used to sell simonton Windows for many years. It is a good product but it is definitely a Lord's air quality than the vinyls we sell now.
A quick visit to Amsco's website indicates that the "Restoration" product line has been discontinued. What is the closest in their current product line? Any dealers in Fort Worth?
Restoration is alive and well. Do a Google search for it. It's a separate website for that particular product.
Hi Jeff, how do you feel about the Soft Lite Elements window line? Have you ever carried a Soft Lite product? Thanks!
I have heard a lot of good things about them. The latest thing I heard, was that they got bought out by another company. I could have heard wrong. If they did get bought out, it would be important for you to find out who bought them and what their reviews look like. Sometimes a terrible company buys a great one and ruins it.

@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks so much for+the insight
Would you consider all three lines of windows you reviewed here to be ultra premium vinyl windows?

Any experience with Alside windows?
I've never sold them but I've looked at them carefully. Unfortunately, I believe it's an entry grade product. If you're looking to flip a house or get rid of your house in a short period of time, it will probably do the trick well enough.

Are sliding windows as good as d hung windows as for as energy efficiency
A double slider is not as efficient as a single slider. It's about the same as comparing DH vs SH.

I started a website where you can find a great window dealer in your area. These are companies that I know personally and can recommend. Check out TheWindowExperts.com
Check out the companies warranties here is an example - keep in mind - Argon gas is what gives a window its insulation value.
Windsor does not warrant the percentage of inert gas
present in high-performance products. Gas dissipates over
time at different rates depending upon use and conditions.
Pella says pretty much the same thing.
Why they don't have screen protection to prevent fly and other insects from flying through when you open the windows?
They do, we just removed it from our showroom samples.
