@@PianistTanooki It also uses a lot of other small sections of galaxy music. A large part of the song is actually a remix of Cloudy Court Galaxy from SMG2.
@@Albert_Pecanio I didn’t originally hear it either but it keeps parts of the tune from cloudy court throughout the song but it’s played on different instruments to keep pace for a racing game. It is pretty hard to tell though. I spent about an hour going back and forth in order to hear pieces of cloudy court in this. It does take the buildup in cloudy court as the buildup here too and that’s the easiest part to hear.
0:52 I can't be the only one who wants that section to loop the same way it did in Super Mario Galaxy, right? It just feels wrong for the song to rush right to the end.
What I like about 0:51 is how it starts off elegant and emotional, filling the player up with nostalgia, only to soon finish the reference at 0:57 in a way that leaves the racer feeling determined, like "Hey, this is no time to get emotional, you have a race to win!".
When you go into the cloud at the end of the galaxy reference and that epic final note fades into the screaming electric guitar…ooh its so damn awesome when it happens.
I remember clearly The first time playing this track- and the pure joy and excitement when I heard those familiar chords building to that famous melody at 0:51 - what an awesome track
I remember when me and my brother talk about this song when we play mario kart: Me: this sounds like the winner's theme Him: no, it's like a mexican song because of the trumpet Eventually we agreed that this is the "mexican winner's song" + My brother also said that the section with all the thunders "sounds like Brian May" and as a Queen fan I sorta agree
While I think that the Mario Kart composers do a good job on every soundtrack, I really wish they'd do stuff like this a bit more often and make stronger musical callbacks to other games in the Mario universe.
If you think about it, the first track of each of the 4 main Grand Prix cups are all meant to set you up for the show that follows. The first cup has Mario Kart Stadium starting off, which is a simple track, but combined with the atmosphere and the music, makes an awesome opening for the entire game as a whole. The second cup has Figure 8 Circuit, which is another simple track, has music that’s jazzy as *hell* and helps set up for the rest of the flower cup. The Star Cup has Sunshine Airport, a beautiful song, a great layout, and awesome theming. It sets you up for the majestic cup to follow (star cup is always pretty, with this one having Dolphin Shoals, Electrodrome, and Mount Wario following). This track is awe inspiring, and combined with the theming of being in the clouds in the sky helps launch you into the awe inspiring Special cup, with other similarly awe inspiring tracks such as the sandy Bone-Dry Dunes, Bowser’s Castle, as fire as ever (I’m sorry), and the “new” rainbow road (I put it in quotation marks bc it’s been like 7-8 years).
Special Cup feels like the final of the adventure, following the Super Mario Bros games scheme of a cloudy world before the complete chaos of a really hot world and then bowser's castle, just to follow it with the special place (or levels) that is the rainbow road These circuits fit perfect with each other
This song gives off Jack and the Beanstalk vibes and I love it. The opening part sets the tone as a huge beanstalk erupts up in front of you and you’re just shocked at the marvel of it. The brass feature section signifies the climbing of the beanstalk into a realm like no other. Finally the Gusty Gardens section gives of the energy of whimsy that you experience when exploring such a beautiful world. It’s a masterpiece because of this interpretation I have.
This track is basically Airship Fortress but happier. I mean in both tracks you're going through the clouds, you board an airship and get shot out of a canon. But in Airship Fortress, it's all stormy and intense, and in Cloudtop Cruise it's nice and sunny. They still managed to add a stormy part into Cloudtop though.
I absolutely love the Gusty Garden motif here > 0:51 It makes me nostalgic for back in 2012 (I’m not saying 2007 cause that’s the year I was born, so I wouldn’t be able to play that year.)
