I find it completely idiotic out of all the Sonic games to give a *"Perfect Score"* to they had the balls to give this game a 10/10 while giving the others lower scores and say Sonic was never good. IGN should've never existed in the first place *SMH*

Yep. Slicers are BACK... You can't mention Sonic without the Slicers... WE HATE SLICERS!! Along with Shellcrackers, but no Asteraunts, surprisingly... Or maybe I didn't see any. Plus, now that I think about it... Gigantic Angel is basically Metropolis Zone mixed with Scrap Brain's aesthetics.
It's also NOT the last time we're gonna see Slicers, I can tell...

An underrated gem of a sonic game. More people need to know about this great game
IMO, for a case like this, an emulator is a viable option because there is no other way to play it, and the company will no longer benefit from your purchase.
But still, I would say it is more than above average, I think it's better than Advance 3 or even either of the Adventure games. This game is certainly worth your time if you like Sonic

The NeoGeo Pocket Color isn't *that* rare or expensive. It's like $30-$40.

I love how expressive eggman is in this game, his desperate shaking of the head like "Nononononononono please no" at the end of the super sonic boss fight cracks me up like nothing else
I can't believe you did an entire NGPC review without even ONCE discussing... THE CLICKY STICK.
But seriously, I think an uninformed viewer might get a LITTLE too much of an impression from this video that Pocket Adventure is _just_ some kind of Sonic 2 port. But while it uses (mostly) Sonic 2's visual design, all the stage layouts and bosses are new. Sure, it occasionally uses setpieces reminiscent of the original game, but I feel like you wrote it off a bit too much. Also, Neo South Island is aping GREEN Hill, not EMERALD Hill, but eh. (Also it has one of the vertical loops from Sonic CD, so freakin' cool.)
I did love that you included a bit about this being a transitional game from classic to modern. That's not an insight you hear too much. ;)

I've known this game existed since it came out but have always written it off because the most recent handheld games around then were Sonic Blast and that Game.com bullshit, and I'm actually interested in this now after actually learning about it. It's basically, as he called it, a Sonic 2 remix, but Knuckles is there and this is some beautiful 8-bit
Well...no...it IS Emerald Hill. The badnicks are the same and they use nearly identical setpieces in the same order. As you said the levels do have enough distinctions to not be considered full on rip offs but come on it's obviously Emerald Hill you can't tell me otherwise.

The Sonic Advance trilogy is severely underrated. The level design is great (Advance 3 was kind of bad when it came to this department however), the music pushed the GBA's limit, the levels are memorable, and all the characters have unique features but can still go fast. Sonic Advance is the real Sonic 4.

Sonic Advance 1 is underrated as shit as this game really takes note of its MegaDrive predecessors.
Advance2 and 3 are okay but SA2 is mostly running and SA3 a not so cool Chaotix clone.

SEGA should remaster the whole Advance Trilogy, complete with zoomed out camera, widescreen and cleaner image.
I totally agree with everyone who enjoys the Sonic Advance trilogy, and I think it's kind of a shame that the games were always overlooked just because they weren't released on home consoles.
I'd have to disagree, while I do think A1 and 2 are great games, I don't like A3's level design.

Hell yes! It was great to see you cover this game. I played it a ton back when it was new but wasn't entirely sure how well it held up. It looks like it has aged fairly gracefully. Or at least, better than I expected.

The last portable Sonic game made while Sega was still SEGA. I remember back in the day there was the idea that the NEO GEO Pocket Color was the companion for the Dreamcast.

I can't believe this video is already four years old... I had this game and a neo geo pocket color as a kid. I had Sonic Pocket Adventure and Bubble Bobble. That was it. Never found any other games for it, which was sad.

This is probably one of the better titles for the NeoGeo Pocket Color (which doesn't say a lot since most NGPC games were ports of Neo Geo games like Fatal Fury, Samurai Shodown, and even a version of Metal Slug)

The moment when this game is on the same exact plane as Breath of the Wild.
It's like those weird dreams you get that merge aspects of your past together. This is one of Sonic's dreams on some random night between games.
It is usually hard to jumpscare me, but when Johnny started screaming at the slicer out of nowhere, I jumped

RobotSnake super sonic had black eyes then it had green now he has red eyes I don't know why maybe sonic changed his contacts lenses when he goes super
black eyes in 2's Super Sonic, green eyes in S3&K gameplay but black in the ending animation, then back to black eyes in unused Chaotix sprites, Sonic R and Sonic Championship... and then curiously always green in this game, and then red eyes for Super in Adventure onward.

Maybe that reason has some correlation with the reason the Doomsday zone music is so out of place...

The people who said "sonic was never good" gave this game full of rehashes a perfect 10.
Starman25 I would give it a 7/10; while it has good control and the coloring is wonderful, I mean look at that Sprite it's just pretty, I love the call back to the classics that started it all, but again, it's too afraid of itself to attain its originality like how "Sonic 4" is, only it's not as bad and has fewer Springs and Boosters.

I like that this is the first sprite based game to use the Adventure/modern artstyle, as shown clearly with Knuckles and Eggman. That transition idea is brilliant, though

Honeslty, I found this game while going through a list of every official sonic game made. It's also how I found out about Sonic Blast...Or was that from Clement?....I don't remember which came first. The Chicken or the Eggman.
Well my question was answered. Now I'm hyped for the eventual super sonic racing marathon at some point in the near distant future.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who found it really unintuitive that you can STAND and JUMP on the explosion from the final boss. Took me forever to beat that thing.
I can't wait to see your Sonic Advance Trilogy review. The first Sonic Advance game was my first Sonic game and I can't begin to tell you how many hours I put into playing Advance 2 as a kid. I'm really interested to hear your thoughts on the games that got me into the Sonic series.
