I had no issue picking this up for the Nintendo switch, despite already having a copy on steam. This game is that damn good.

@@ikagura i understand but that doesn't make the game bad...plus sumo digitals wanted to make a game that focused on sonic characters so they could make a balanced and good story. Maybe did didn't want to explain how the sega characters met in the story mode and even if they didn't it would out of place for newcomers... So maybe we will see some sega characters as dlc

I will basically say this. As someone who got Ultimate Edition (Due to me not playing Half Genie Hero until a physical copy was released in the UK.... and I waited a while to play Half Genie Hero so by the time it came out physical it was the Ultimate Edition)
The extra game modes are fun to play through but are not worth paying for it as DLC. If you are getting Ultimate Edition then you have everything and then go blast through them. Recommend the Ultimate Edition over the cheaper normal game.
@@BigFearedBalloon I agree, I have the ultimate edition on the switch, and I've beaten all the modes except for friends to the end and beach mode, but I still go back to play the main game a lot. That's just me personally, because that game has become one of my favorite games of all time.
I think Pirate's Curse is my favourite for a game but Half Genie Hero has a lot of replayability, so that game is more fun to playthrough again even if it isn't my favourite Shantae game out of the two (still need to play the original and Risky's Revenge though)
Round 2 of Shovel Knight covering Plague of Shadows, Specter of Torment, and King of Cards?
The treasure trove version is still not out yet though. The official website lists it as coming soon, so it could be a while.

A hat in time absolutely now. It's gotten so much love and free flowing customization, you can build games around it's engine, even on _other_ consoles.

@@quillllly Heck, the fanbase is so insane, there's people like me who hate Sonic Mania!
...If you're wondering why, it's because they didn't really try anything legitimately ambitious, nor did they try to recreate and polish up on ambitious ideas that didn't stick (for example, Amy's gameplay from Advance 1). IMO if you attempt one of those two things, you have the heart of a true Sonic game, but Mania is massively lacking in that area.
The constant nostalgia pandering to *one single era* didn't help. The difference between this and Generations is, Generations celebrated everything about Sonic. Mania acts scared to acknowledge anything that wasn't before 1999.
I guess more than anything, I hate Mania because it seems like such a comfortable, easy game to make, when you compare it with new ideas and innovation. That's why they made DLC to begin with, not because they want to make games better, but because they want more money, and Mania Plus is an easy, inexpensive way to make more money.
I have a theory. The encore special stages were supposed to be the super emerald stages and were repurposed. If you didn’t know, hyper sonic was supposed to be in mania but was cut.
I hope he returns for a Mania 2 considering we haven’t seen Hyper Sonic since Sonic 3 & Knuckles

I feel Johnny made a glaring mistake here. Plus is $5, not $10! The physical edition he has with the reversible cover and art book is indeed $30 (10 more than vanilla Mania) but for those who have digital Mania and want to upgrade via DLC its only $5. And yes I think Mania Plus is totally worth the extra 5 bucks!
I bought Mania Plus for my Switch for $30, back when I first got my Switch, and it was *_well_* worth it.
On top of buying the Steam version day 1 back in 2017. Fuck Denuvo

8:10 small correction the physical version is $30 but the DLC version is $5 making the total $25
Not sure how to feel about the physical copy with the DLC costing more than the digital version and DLC that can be bought separate...

It also costs them more to produce and ship physical games than to put them on the eShop. Most games that are the same price both ways cost more than $20/$25 to begin with

It's a bit janky, getting a hit should knock you to significantly to the right like the death egg robot does imo, but still far better than the original
@@handsomezack2204 too bad you can beat this phase in like 10 seconds unlike the other. They could have make something so you could last a bit more while fighting it like the second phase of the final boss in S3&K where you have to open the mouth to attack it.

But the previous version was even easier - and unless you go for no-damage, the previous version of that phase doesn't even stand a chance.
Plus, the S3&K's final boss was piss-poor easy, since a huge Master Emerald hitbox, easy-to-avoid fire attack and rings.
Shoulda called it Act 2 for this one Johnny, missed opportunity ^^

Round 2 is great concept especially with games that give large dlc expansions

Origins Plus giving us Amy in all the games and Knuckles in CD as well as the Frontiers updates...yeah... this really should be a thing from now on.
The pinball bonus stage also replaces Blue Sphere in the main game once you've acquired all of the Medallions in the Blue Sphere stages. So it lends itself well to replayability by giving you a way to obtain elemental shields in places where the level design wouldn't allow you to have a certain one.
Love that Sigma X4 voice clip. I always say that to my friends and they never get it.

I don't follow the franchise myself but there must be so many nuances between each game in terms of feel and flow that really draws you in. Am curious about V myself as if IV is dead it seems a bit pointless to go for as I'm not much of a single player guy.

Love the round two idea, as opinions can often vary through time. Like when you love a movie when it comes out and years later re watch it are like " wtf? " So it's fun to hear updated opinions. Glad you brought it back!

Well, since it's pretty fitting for the Pokemon marathon, I'd love to see Round 2s for FireRed/LeafGreen and HeartGold/SoulSilver. I can understand if you don't wanna do FR/LG since you did Let's Go but it would be really cool for you to see all the extra detail and great things that they added for HG/SS.
I really like this episode format. It's a great compliment to the VA videos. I'm also always so tempted to pick up mania plus every time I see that slick golden packaging.

Round 2 Shantae Half-Genie Hero DLCs!
Sonic Forces may not have been great enough, but it did improve some things. For example, some of the character portrayals like Eggman and Shadow. Wish I could say the same for Sonic and Tails.

@@ikagura Eh, Classic Sonic was an unnecessary addition to the game, anyway. Throughout the game, Classic Sonic just felt shoehorned in just for the sake of nostalgia. Which was unnecessary because games like Sonic Mania already covered the nostalgia factor.
The game itself is very short, the level design was very small, the story isn't really that great, some of the characters were portrayed better than they were in past Sonic games, the gameplay with the OC and Modern Sonic was good, and the Classic Sonic gameplay was okay. This game in my opinion is not good, it's not bad, and it's not mediocre, it's just okay.
Sonic Mania was definitely better. Not because "It's 2D Sonic!", it's there was more effort put into it. Although, it wasn't completely great. It could have used more variation, a bigger story, and kept it separate from Sonic Forces.
I can't wait for that colosseum review. I'M SO EXCITED!

Personally, I'd like to see A Hat in Time get the Round 2 treatment. Its second (and likely final) DLC pack released recently and I'd like to see your expanded thoughts on Seal the Deal, Bow Kid and the Nyakuza Metro, as well as the other additions to the game.
More accurately, I want to see you tear your non-existent hair out over Death Wish and I highly recommend you stream the nonsense that is Online Party.

I see where you saw Labyrinth Zone, but it's more intentionally referencing Tidal Tempest Zone from Sonic CD. They even change the drowning to be like it is in Sonic CD to compliment that.
