- Since I remember I have a great love and respect for the ocean, and all this was transformed into the will of becoming a marine biologist after watching a TVseries. This is the very very very very resumed story of how I ended up doing a PhD in marine biology!

Since I was little, I've said I wanted to be a marine biologist. However, when it came to applying for college, I decided to major in education due to pressures to choose something that would be stable. I ended up taking an environmental science class which made me realize how much I still wanted to be a marine biologist so I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree in coastal environmental science.

I’m 14 and I’ve always wanted to be a marine biologist. I grew up next to the beach and I have always loved the water and I just find it so fascinating. I really hope to become a marine biologist one day and to study more about it💙
I grew up in Florida and felt the same way. I am now at school in Tampa for marine bio and loving every minute of it (except calculus and chemistry). You can do it if you put your heart and soul into it, because it is not easy work!
Your way ahead the game just by living next to and loving the water. What particular thing fascinates you is a large part of where to focus your energy.

I’ve been watching documentaries on marine life and it always fascinates me.. I’m a freshman in high school but I’ve wanted to become a marine biologist since not that long ago. I plan on majoring in marine biology when I get older but sometimes I get too scared. I’m not sure if I’m smart or even bold enough to study marine life. This video is helpful and I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

I know this was made years ago, but ever since I saw Finding Nemo as a kid, I was obsessed with the ocean. While most kids were talking about how cool outer space was, I'd try and argue how the seas are better.
Then in 8th grade we very briefly discussed anglerfish, which reminded me how the anglerfish scene was my absolute favorite part in Finding Nemo and how I'd rewatch it over and over again as a kid. That’s what reinvigorated my love for the sea, and especially deep sea creatures. I’m usually not one for Googling information on my own, but I simply adore finding out about a new deep sea creature and reading all I can find about it.
My favorite has always been (and probably will always be) anglerfish. Tbh your obsession with dolphins is exactly how I feel about anglerfish, except I haven't worn out my obsession. If there's an anglerfish in ANYTHING (a movie, a video game, whatever) I love it so much. Even if it's a bad guy or annoying, my love for the fish stops me from becoming frustrated with it. I'm currently trying to become a marine biologist by taking the right college classes

I've been by the ocean for basically ever. My father and I went to FL every summer, went to reefs, swam with sharks, everything. I was literally the five year old in the 8ft side of the neighborhood pool with the snorkel. Yet I'm only 11, I hope I stick to marine biology because I am in loveee

This was really inspiring and interesting! Just what I needed right now. I have recently finished my 3 year degree of animal management and I've had time to digest how difficult it is to get into the specific industry I hope to work in. I am currently working and applying for other jobs too which is not animal related, which I felt silly doing before but you've made me realise that its okay to try things... I think it would better myself as I'd gain new skills and see if the career path in my head is really what I wanna do... despite having studied towards it for 5 years...

I wanted to work with them, and help them, but figured a career in marine biology would mean a lot of life changes for me (mainly moving near an ocean). I'm too old to do what I love I wanted to do marine biology when I was younger have a fascination for coral and sea life pushed to do a media degree which I did and now my mums carer at 40 I think I'm too old and no finance to do a marine biology degree sadly but more to the point you are absolutely amazing and a fantastic role model for all these generations who want to become marine biologists keep up the amazing work you do ❤

Wow! Happy to find your channel. I am actually a fish biologist (very close field). I've just finished my bachelor's degree and hope to apply for master's but I struggle a little about research cause I live in a cold country and marine biology here is a little bit difficult and unsatisfying for me honestly. That disappoints me. Hope I'll find an interesting topic for my future.

Thank you for sharing this video. Today, while working a job I don't particularly care for, it's okay but I know it's not going to be my career, I was thinking to myself about how I could change the path my life is currently going down. Like you, I was OBSESSED with the ocean when I was a child and EVERYONE gave me things with dolphins. As a teenager, I remember buying college textbooks about scuba diving when I had never even been in the ocean. However, I didn't have much support and cared deeply about my parents expectations and pursued other things they approved of. I dropped out of college and now work at a place I don't feel passionate about. Now, I think about how I wish I had pursued the one thing I know I truly loved, marine science. I hope I can get back into school and finish a degree in Biology so I can move towards marine science. Thank you for sharing this. I know there are plenty of people who do what they want even if other people tell them they can't but I NEED the support and appreciate getting it from your video. Thanks!

I’m 18 and just started working towards my bachelors degree in coastal ecology. I have wanted to be a marine biologist since I knew what a dolphin was (I also went through a huge dolphin/ cetacean phase if you can’t tell from my profile pic). I love studying marine animals. I started snorkeling in a swimming pool when I was 11 or 12 years old and got into aquatics class in senior. I experienced the ocean in late 2000s. Now, I live on land away from the ocean. I use internet to still updated and research marine animals.
I’ve wanted to be a marine biologist for about 5 years! I’ve loved marine life for ages and I care so much about animals and 2 years ago I got to swim with a dolphin 🐬 and I learnt a lot about them and i was so intrigued and know since I’m in high school I’ve made a promise to myself that when it starts to get serious I will put in all my effort and even in my primary school graduation our theme was I believe and I wrote I believe I will be a marine biologist and now I’ve started really getting into biology in science so I haven’t given up in my dream yet and I hope I don’t 😇 ( thank you for this video)

Hi Maria you might be interested to know about animal communicators (if you can believe it). I just watched one where the communicator talks to whales and the whales told her things like whenever there's an earthquake it messes with their sonar system for several days, or that they prefer to be more spread out because of the food source. Pretty interesting to me!
Oh my gosh I have the same obsession with dolphins!! Literally my bedroom is covered with dolphins! I’ve loved them ever since I was little and I’ve always wanted to become a marine biologist, I’ve never switched my mind onto anything else it’s always been marine biology. One of my favourite films that always inspires me is dolphin tale, it’s amazing and I never get bored of it. I’m currently in my last year off school and in about 2 years time I’m going on this trip called ‘odyssey expeditions’ where I get to fly out to America (from the uk) with 12 other people from around the world and we get put into groups and live on the same boat and travel around the British virgin island for 21 days, we also learn how to scuba dive and do night diving, exploring the ocean and we learn a lot of marine biology and there’s so much more I can’t wait because it will definitely help me and I’ll get to see dolphins for the first time 😃🐬🐟🐋

When I was very young like around 6-7 years old I became obsessed with marine biology and sharks specifically. The flint and steel was a cartoon called Kenny the Shark and then I watched river monsters and of course shark week. I also bought tons of shark books and everything that was shark I would grab it and read it or watch it. I am now 18 I have job shadowed at the aquarium in Omaha and am now working on a bachelors in Bio conservation.
What a cool story, I'm starting biology at university in September. I really hope to end up similar to you doing something in marine biology

I'm already 18 and struggling to make up my mind. I have such a love for the ocean and I love to explore and travel so I feel like marine biology would be an amazing career to pursue. But at the same time I love astronomy so much and i've always wanted to be an astronaut as well (but i feel like i'm giving up on that because of how small of a chance I have that it will actually happen. I just can't stop thinking about it though.) And on top of that I have a HUGE passion for dance and was supposed to move to LA in march to train and do auditions and work with choreographers but didn't go because of the virus. I just don't know what to do. I can't make up my mind. its so stressful

idk how old you are but I have always wanted to be a marine biologist and they didn't have a program here when i was younger. I wanted to go to Japan but my family talked me out of it. I am now 36 I have 4 kids, oldest is about to graduate high school and I just finished my first semester in biology at a two yr college. I will transfer as a junior and minor in marine biology at the 4 yr school. I keep thinking I am too old, but I don't care I am doing it anyway!

IM THE EXACT SAME!!! I wanted to be a marine biologist ever since I was like 3-4 years old. i don’t even know how i knew it was a thing. in 3rd grade I read a book about a girl who discovered she could turn into a dolphin and she was always obsessed with dolphins and collected everything with dolphins. so I got obsessed with dolphins and collected them. So much that my nickname at school was Delphina. The equivalent to your show would be H2O which aired in like the mid 2000s. I absolutely loved it.
then in 10th grade or so i started becoming interested in medicine and after I graduated school I started working as a nurse at first I regretted it because I realized the ocean is truly what I love and want to dedicate my life to, but now I see it as when i’m done with the nursing I will have a good amount of money saved up as well as amazing experience and knowledge and then study my one true passion 💙
Hi Kate! I love reading about people who shared the same animal crazies as me, it is awesome! You can always get involved in ocean conservation, and learning about the ocean without necessarily having a degree in marine sciences, if that is something you are interested in ;). You can participate in cleanups, volunteer, education events, etc. The job you do is also amazing. I have the upmost respect and admiration for nurses and the work you do, heroes behind the scenes!

I am getting involved in any way that I can, petitions, protests, cleaning up beaches when i’m on vacation (or my local parks at home), spreading the word and making people aware of our environmental issues, plastic probably being the biggest one. the nursing that I do is a 3 year thing, i have 2 years left and then I will study marine biology for sure, it’s what I truly love and I can’t wait to get a degree in it. I really love doing research and don’t even get me started on being near/ in the ocean and marine life. 🐬🌊💙

My great passion in life is the ocean. My fondest memories are when I’m diving under the ocean surface surrounded by shades of blue and sunlight and watching the ocean life around me. I want to do something that involves ocean life and animals. And of course that something is marine biology. I go to college but am currently a liberal arts student struggling with hopelessness and insecurities. I would love to become a marine biologist. But I’ve become aware that it involves a lot of math... and that is my greatest weakness. Is there anyway I could get around that? Or possibly another route you would suggest? Thanks, a fellow ocean lover.
Ive wanted to be a marine biologists since i was 5 i was watching Manny the handy man where i showed me in 1 episode where how animal were effected by plastic then i got into Octonauts which taught me about different animals and the different zones in the ocean which led me to know a 13 year old trying to find opertuaties so i can find a good school once im done with highschool

Starting my journey to become a marine biologist as a freshman in college at 38 year old single dad to my beautiful little daughter. It will be a hard road but I have always dreamed of it and it's time . I want to do research in Baja California particularly Baja California sur in a huge bay called conception bay.
I have wanted to be a marine biologist since I was 6 but it really started in 3rd grade when I found out that only a small part of our oceans have been discovered and they make up 75% of our planet and I wanted to discover it and (I loveee dolphins btw) I feel like there are so many species that we need to discover

I’m on my first year of Business Administration and i’m not really sure if i’m studying what I really like... all the things you mentioned sound wonderful to me, I feel like studying marine biology is such an adventure and I love adventures! I’ve been drawn by the ocean my whole life and since I was little I’ve loved water animals 💙 I also like art and business has no art at all... I feel really confused and don’t know if I should keep studying business... I don’t feel like sitting behind a desk my whole life, I need adventure 😩 It would be great if you could give me some advice pls 🙁🙏🏼
I'd like to be a marine biologist for two main reasons, there's another space race to mars but it's not as pressured but people forget we should still discover as much as possible of our own earth because we have discovered nearly nothing in the entire ocean, also I'm obsessed with watching videos and learning more about the anatomy of fish and the ways people extract meat from fish although I don't eat meat myself I'd like to be a part of some sort of discovery unit to study behavior and anatomy of brand new discoveries.. but I'm sure that's very very difficult to get to

Since I was 5 all I wanted to do was go into a science oriented career, currently I’m 15 and I had no clue what I wanted to do other than the stereotypical occupation of a doctor. I only recently found out about marine biology and I’m slowly starting to become obsessed and I love it. My question to you, if u have the time to answer, is what do you recommend someone like me, who has recently become interested in marine biology to do, to do in order to not be intimidated by the cons of marine biology?

I got my dream job as a back country park ranger, and it was awesome...until it wasn't. lol. Teaching ended up being a means to a career in outdoor education that doesn't pay minimum wage. I love hearing the stories of people who love what they are doing what they want to do.

I going to school for the same thing I always wanted to explore the ocean to find a new species of fish but when I think about where I'm from it make's me think what was one my mind when I choose my major. I'm from Arizona by the way.
I’m still in high school and I REALLY want to be a marine biologist , not because I just like the ocean and animals but because I have a passion since I was really small. But I’ve been doing a lot of research and I’m still clueless on where I could start after highschool. I’m stuck
I’m a lot like you when I saw the movie JAWS, shark week, the end of Pinocchio, and seeing the little mermaid at the end of first grade on VHS. I wanted to study sharks, dinosaurs, alligators, etc. then I had two stroke when I was a kid. I wanted to watch Ocean Girl but it always came on during dinner. My stroke really screwed everything up. So I started volunteering at my state science museum. My parents think college will be to hard. I tried to go to college but it was a loosing battle.
My parents will not let me even do scuba diving. I know scuba diving is great for disabled. So I want to make a TH-cam or a blog soon. Talk about nature, Enviromental education. When I am able to get away of family I will go to college and scuba diving.
