This was my first career choice when I was 5. I remember being super obsessed with octonauts( a kids show about ocean exploration) and as soon as I found out I could have a career all about water I said I was gonna be a marine biologist for a longgg time. I got caught up with other interests and found other careers I’d also love to do but today I watched a documentary and saw some of my favorite sea animals and it sort of reconnected me to the potential of getting into the field. I’m 15 so I’ve still got 3 yrs to figure out what I wanna do, and even if I don’t end up being a marine biologist I’m glad I’ve done some research, and regardless I’d definitely love to be in the water more!
Same! Starting freshman year I was interested in law enforcement but man marine biology has it grasp on me. Which type of marine biology were you sorta interested in
Thank you so much for this video....I've been hearing so many things about how Marine Biologists are mostly doing lab work and analyzing. While I wouldn't mind doing that I really wanted to get into a career where I could be in the field more often...and it seems that marine ecology is for me :) More videos about marine ecology and benthic biology would be great!
Me too, I am looking for careers with more field work but the benthic bio seems super interesting. I have also been looking at oceanography which has a lot more field work!!
Hi! My name is Sydney. I am 13 years old and very interested in being a marine biologist and going to college for that specific major. I am not sure and obviously I have a long way to go. but I get the best feeling being around animals. I found this video very interesting because I want to know what to do after collage and what career path I would like to take in marine biology. Thank you for this! Very easy to understand!
Cool video! Very focused on the charismatic mega-fauna tho, even though a large part of marine biology is on algae, plankton etc. I think people sometimes get a false image of what marine biology actually is. Of course there are lots of cool jobs on whales, sharks, corals etc. but many marine biologists end up studying processes on a scale that’s invisible to the naked eye. Just a heads up to anybody interested in studying!
I am a student in Amsterdam, I finished my bachelors in Bioinformatics a year ago, passed my premasters this year in preparation for my master in Freshwater and Marine Biology after summer vacation! I have always wanted to become a biologist and the marine field always fascinated me the most as I grew up on Aruba where I was surrounded by sea! I can only dream I will find such an amazing job. I have actually already had many subjects on benthic biology, coral reef ecology, population modelling and so much more. I am so excited to start working in two years! If you have any tips for me, please share. I am also wondering how the average student finds money and time to do volunteer work next to your studies as I find it really difficult to find time and afford it with my ever increasing student loan/debt (again, tips are very welcome) :)
Yes you can iam like you I was finished bsc environmental science degree in bachelors then now iam facinating about Marin field because iam now doing scuba diving course
I just found your channel and I love it!! I’m interested in getting a job within the marine biology field but I’m curious about what type of degree I would need to get a marine related career? The university I was accepted to doesn’t offer a degree in marine biology
You can start at relative degree like biology, chemistry, geology and then get masters in marine biology. Think about your academic career as a systematic thing. If you get bachelors, try to choose one relative to your field of interest overall and you will be able to choose masters based on that
Thank you so much for this video. I'll be going to college in 2024 and i'm planning to be a marine biologist. My goal is actually to save the ocean environment and its ecosystem so i'm definitely gonna be a marine ecologist. Hi, I graduated with BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2014, but now am finally in the sustainable development industry as a newly hired project officer in an environmental consulting company here in the Philippines, while finishing my MS in Environmental Science. I realized I wanted my career to be like that of what I see in National Geographic, or be part of the sustainability industry at large. After seeking advice, this is where I landed, finishing my master's degree to gain technical skills in this field, as it proved to be difficult to enter with jusy my bachelor's and a prior work experience from a different industry. I want to reach out to people and ask what are the ways for me to be eligible to work abroad, like in the US or European countries? Can you suggest possible ways in my scenario? I'm thinking getting enough years of relevant experience 1st, then trying my luck abroad. Or, apply for another graduate degree from a foreign university and then head straight for a working visa afterwards. Although I'm still just starting in this dream industry of mine, I'm eager to know ways of how to make it abroad. Thank you so much for your helpful insights, Eli!!
