So glad you found this useful! The marine biology definitely isn't an easy one, but it is definitely exciting, let me know if you have any questions :)!
Yes I have a question! So I heard that there are different places to work as a marine biologist what I am trying to say is people work on boats, labs and more. What do u prefer. Aaaaaand what collage or high school do u prefer! I made myself a research book about this career.😁 I have a collage in mind tho. The collage I want to go to is Orange Coast Collage. One of my goals. Learn to swim😬 I suck at that so I try to practice. But u gave me inspiration to be a marine biologist😊
I most definitely love working in the field! But I do also love looking the information I collected over in a computer afterward. You’re right that marine biologists can work in very different places! Some spend lots of time in a lab, others spend lots of time on the open ocean, and other spend hours underwater. They also often teach in a classroom 🤓. Answering your question about colleges, i think the best options for marine biology are ones that are located along the coast! Florida and California have some fantastic programs, but so does the north east as well. It sounds like Orange Coast might be a great option for you!
I've always loved the ocean but realized I really wanted to be a marine biologist early last year (13 years old now XD) hey, good luck to the both of you and hats off for knowing your dream so early on! We got this!
Very comprehensive list about marine sciences in academia! Whether applying to a Masters, PHD or any ocean-related career, I always advocate real-life research experience over classroom time to my applicants. Most hiring entities for marine science careers are more interested in your professional experiences and acquired skills associated with your thesis research, internships, volunteering, and entry-level positions.
I just have to say that you make the most helpful videos!! I am currently a freshman in highschool, but I am definitely looking to go into this field! It has been my passion since I was young child. Thank you so much for the amazing videos!!!
Thank you for helping learn more about my dream I'm currently 16 and have stuck to marine biology since I was 7 and my peers and family are surprised as my elder brother and twin sister have changed their dreams change multiple times a year
Hi Eli! I'm a student in New York studying conservation biology (focusing on marine life of course). Any chance you can do a video targeted towards newbies in the field? I'm trying to get scuba-certified and get an internship but some advice from personal experience would be super helpful for me!
Hi Jacklyn! Thank you so much for the feedback! At the moment I am working on a video all about paid internships in biology/marine biology that you might find useful. I’ll keep this in mind and try to get something in the works soon!
I feel almost bad for admitting this...but I legit want to explore and study the most nightmarish creatures the sea has to offer. Weirder the better. But I'd have to go out of state to even begin looking at that kind of career path. Arizona doesn't really offer a whole lot in that regard xD
Long video, but definitely worth it. Can’t say how much you’ve helped me out with this, feel like I have a direction to move in. Thank you! :) Did you decide on doing your masters right now?
What about becoming a marine biologist when you’re in your early 30s, with no background or education in biology and coming out of a different career? 😬
I am full time military and luckily ill be stationed literally 1000 yards from an amazing beach in california but since im full time military i really need a 100% online university. What are my options?
Just wait till you get out. Start you general courses now, take science and math classes, then apply to a university when you’re done with your enlistment.
as someone in mid thirties with a divemaster training, trying to get into marine biology, what are your suggestions for me? I feel like its too late to start, but it's been pulling me for three years now...
I don't live near an ocean at all but I am so interested in marine biology... would you recommend I study at a university near me and then move out to a coast, or study near the coast?
@@oceanscholar Thats what I was thinking... though I was going to go into marine biology at a university near me and then do coop... working for the government and testing water.. I was also going to go into teaching biology maybe..?
Hello bro , Actually I just want to know that can I be a marine biologist along with surgeon . The point is I am from India and here we have to give a exam called NEET to become a doctor. It takes 12-13 years to become a well paid surgeon .But along with this I just also wanted to be a marine biologist . And as per my knowledge a marine biologist can do work on field in very small amount of time and left of time period he/she do paper work or other research work in lab . But pls clear my doubt becoz I want to be a marine biologist but can ignore my profession . And one more point as you said in this video that we requires funding for project so for funding on my project my surgeon job can do . Pls reply me . ❤❤❤ By the way thanks to you to not blew out my dream work . ❤❤❤
I haven’t gotten started on any college yet I graduated last year can you do a video on all the courses and degrees it will take to reach a graduates degree in marine biology, I worry I won’t have enough funding for all the classes
I'm going to senior high school and must choose my core subjects. What core subjects should I choose? From my understanding, I think Biology and computers are essential but are other core subjects like math, physics, and chemistry that important? Sorry if this is a dumb question or if I missed anything in the video which answers my question.
I have definitely been looking into this like crazy lately and am still open for advice on this as well. The University of Hawaii and the Hawaii Pacific University I have heard are good schools for Marine Biology. Hope this helps.

Change your MOS to one in the marine engineering field or something close to a civilian marine biologist.
as someone in mid thirties with a divemaster training, trying to get into marine biology, what are your suggestions for me?

You really talked alot about the Phd. But what can you do with the masters?
I don't live near an ocean at all but I am so interested in marine biology... would you recommend I study at a university near me and then move out to a coast, or study near the coast?
Studying at a university near the coast would probably give you some great opportunities for marine research experience in the field!

Of course I'm biased to say FSU :P. Hahaha but I might also suggest UF, FAU, and UM, which all have strong reputations and marine-related programs.
