  • An Alabama man, in a legal battle over littering because he left flowers on his fiancée’s grave, says he also can’t get his engagement ring back.
Winston “Winchester” Hagans was convicted of criminal littering and ordered to pay about $300 for repeatedly placing boxes full of flowers on the grave of his fiancée, whose father didn’t like the decorations or approve of their relationship.

I think this man who is a "Reverend", needs to take a look at himself. Stopping his late daughter's fiancée from putting flowers on his daughters flowers, is beyond words. Plus getting 30 days jail term AND a fine.... Please judge, your making a laughing stock of yourself. I really hope this poor gentleman wins his case, and gets his fiances ring back. His future father-in-law must really hate to do this. I just hope he hasn't sold the ring to someone else.

Cemeteries have their own rules about leaving flowers on graves for ease of maintaining the entire cemetery. Meanwhile, it's hard to believe that the father could have the fiance arrested as he left flowers on his daughter's grave. BUT we're talking Alabama and the ol' boy network which I'm guessing is alive and well.

1000% percent agree with the fiance in this case.... BUT, details matter.... So, the father is a strict pastor that didn't approve of his daughter's engagement (don't know why because this MAN seems amazing) AND.... his daughter died in a car accident on her way home from visiting a wedding venue... AND...
the fiance, built a 3 box, bench size flower pot and placed 3 8x10ish

Well, the cemetery has rules against this type of set up but typically will not be very strict on enforcement UNLESS, the owner of the plot (father) doesn't take responsibility for upkeep etc... so, I believe the father asked the fiance to remove it and when he refused, the father removed it and it fell apart in the process because of the weight and it "not being well built"... SO, the fiance built another one and placed it on the grave, and the father removed it... I believe it was after the 3rd pot bench with the engagement photos was placed on her grave is when the father took him to court for littering using the cemetery's rules in his favor to pursue law enforcement and court orders..... AGAIN, I don't agree with the father but I also think the WHOLE story should be told... the father didnt have a problem with him leaving flowers, he had a problem with the bench size flower pots with the huge engagement photos of an engagement that he didnt agree with... instead of the fiance compromising, he is going on MSM and not telling the whole story... unfortunately, 2 men have broken hearts and refuse to stop having a pissing contest while calling themselves Christians.

It isn't that her father wants the ring for sentimental reasons, he is a vindictive Po$ that wants to punish Winston for loving his daughter and almost taking her away from him through marriage. Obviously the daughter did not live the controlled lifestyle that her father wanted to enforce. He is just a miserable person and wants to make Winston just as miserable as him.
I no nothing about this case except what I just learned here, but some states have laws that will allow a man to retain ownership of engagement rings and other intimate gifts given during courtship if the actual planned wedding is aborted for any reason. Winston needs an attorney that is a real bull dog and not afraid of the local attorneys, judges and law enforcement to file a complaint and ask the court to prohibit his fiancee's father from disposing of the rings and other personal gifts until the case is adjudicated. Depending upon Alabama State laws and whether he and his fiancee lived together, he may also want to get in line as his fiancee's estate is to be settled, as a different and hopefully fair judge will be handling the settlement of her estate.
It sounds to me like this Alabama town is run by the corrupt "Good Old Boy" network of law enforcement & governance. And perhaps God needs to recall a certain Preacher Man?

He's not the only one grieving and the site is not for him to decide how it should be managed.

Having worked at a City cemetery, I know many cemeteries have rules about what kind of headstones (flat or standing) and what kind of and how many "mementos" (flowers, frames, etc.) may remain on a grave and for how long. The fact a "littering" charge is being used might indicate the City hasn't had occasion to address such a problem before and this is their way to get him to stop breaking their rules. After all, it costs more to clean it up. However, IF what's being said here is true, it really does sound like her dad, sadly, might be acting on his displeasure with this man's relationship with his daughter and exploiting connections at City Hall, in addition to withholding the ring, in order to punish him. Let's don't be TOO quick to be so HARD on either of these men. Remember that the DAD is probably angry and grieving the loss of his precious child too. It's VERY sad and upsetting that these two Christian men, who are supposed to consider themselves BROTHERS in Christ, are at such horrible odds with each other and in such a petty way! I personally know the Ford family well and have known of the Hagans family for quite some time also. It’s really pitiful how people tend to jump and defend or condemn someone when they have just skimmed over a news story. There’s more to it guys. The Ford family, though not perfect, is a very delightful, kind and hospitable family. Winchester has been extremely disrespectful to the rest of the Ford family and has sought for an opportunity to flaunt himself as can be noted in all the pictures of himself on the box. He evidently set up a game camera to monitor the grave plot which didn’t belong to him. As you may have noticed, the Ford family has not been pushing this story in the news. They have only wanted to bring this to a quiet resolution. They first contacted Winchester’s church(at the time) in an attempt to resolve it. A representative of the church suggested that he take it to the civil authorities because they couldn’t deal with him….The judge made a reasonable decision. As far as the ring goes, it’s my understanding that Hagans may have some personal belonging(s) of Hannah that the Ford family would like to be returned in exchange for the ring.

Grave sites are meant for everyone to mourn the loss of a loved one. Grave sites don't care who paid for the resting place.
Getting ticketed for littering for leaving flowers at a Grave site is the craziest thing I've heard. Then to spend 30 days in jail well that's just punitive. At the end of the day both the father and fiance loved her.
The story would probably be no where but for 30days in jail for littered flowered on a graveside. The fine well okay, because it's normal to fine for littering. If he really wanted traction, he'd be all over Tiktok and Twitter with folks leaving tons of flowers everyday.
If the family didn't bury the ring with her, it should be returned to the fiancé. They have other momentos to remember her by. Keeping the engagement ring is spiteful. No matter how nice you are. I'll leave all the faith based stuff out of the conversation since neither can be decent human beings while grieving.

    • @tamk7678
      @tamk7678 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I didn’t see pictures of just him on the flower box. I saw pictures of a life shared with the deceased. The pictures presented were not flaunting anything but a young couples love for one and other.
If the Ford family wanted a true resolution, they could have found one. Taking law enforcement with the family to have a conversation about not using video equipment and warn him of consequences would have been reasonable. Trying to involve someone’s employers was an escalation, not a de-escalation of the situation. Taking out a warrant for his arrest was a second escalation. Keeping anything (including an engagement ring) that belongs to the fiancé is an escalation of the conflict.
Is it possible he has things that belong to the Ford family? I would guess that is a good possibility too. Two wrongs don’t make a right. “Pastor” Ford, as the older of the two men involved, should be a mature man of the cloth that is capable of showing his congregation how to act with grace and and love to a fellow Christian who is hurting and possibly lost in grief.
You’re response is telling in that there is an underlying root of bitterness. Have you prayed heartfelt prayers today for both sides to find peace and end this fight? Do you really want peace for all involved, or do you hope to just try to point fingers?
I pray that all people touched by Miss Ford’s life and death will stop the tattle telling attitudes and will find a way to build a better legacy for her in the weeks, months, and years to come.
Be better. Demand better. The world is watching, waiting to condemn all Christians based on this childish behavior.

Well, I must say..I would not want that box at my familygrave..with those huge pictures, I'm not that kind of type who likes that sort of "decorations" at my grave, just plant a flower that will come up every spring, THAT I would appreciate. If it's her family"s grave, then her parents have the right to draw the line at what they accept there of course, and he should accept it and not start problems.

He's not telling the whole story. He aint the angel he's putting himself out to be but hey, that doesn't make a goid story does it. He was charged with a DUI after this. He has also been cited for an open container violation shortly before she died.

It is interesting to note that Winchester was arrested for a DUI the morning after this interview. Perhaps Mr. Ford didn’t approve of the relationship because of things like this. It’s also ironic that Hannah died as a result of someone else DUI. Maybe a good way of honoring his late fiancé would be avoiding the very thing that caused her death.

@@sassysav6859 I agree. Also in my opinion if this is a small country town then he already has a “X” on his back with law enforcement siding with the father so they could be targeting him. The fiance is crossing a line here and needs to chill. They were not married, so the gravesite belongs to the family and they decide what to do with it. Him putting big ass flowers pots with pictures of them kissing, highjacking the site is over the top and disrespectful to the family. Putting himself at the center. He's not the only one grieving and the site is not for him to decide how it should be managed. Also, his constant mentioning of being a preacher, sermons, etc. seems like 'faith-washing'. He comes off as sketchy and manipulative. And overly eager to portrait himself as good. Which is always a red or at least pink flag. Banfield, please - a bit more critical sense here and the full picture, if you don't mind. Something's off.
