IDAHO FALLS - The boots of a young man missing for nearly two weeks have been found behind a dirt pile on his property but there’s still no sign of 19-year-old Dylan Rounds.
Rounds attended Rigby High School and began farming grain a few years ago in the desert town of Lucin, Utah near the Utah/Nevada border. He lives by himself in a camp trailer on a remote piece of land and family members last heard from him when he called his grandmother the morning of Saturday, May 28.

“He said he couldn’t talk. He had to get his grain truck in the shed because he had seed in it,” Candice Cooley, Rounds’ mother, tells EastIdahoNews.com. “He was planting and he couldn’t get his seed wet.”
Rounds’ boots, truck, wallet and phone
Nobody heard from Rounds over the weekend and by Monday, May 30, his family became concerned and went to the farm. They called police and Box Elder County Search and Rescue when Rounds was not there. Crews arrived and began scouring the property.
“Within the first hour and a half, they found his boots. From where his grain truck was parked, his boots were about 100 yards south behind a pile of dirt just casually tossed out,” Cooley says. “He was very particular about his boots. He wears a pair and it’s always the same pair. When they wear out, he goes and buys exactly the same boots.”
The boots did not look faded and had dirt on them. Cooley says detectives told her there was a spot of blood on the footwear and they would be sent to a lab for testing but late last week, she says the family was informed that police were hanging on to the boots in case cadaver dogs needed them for a scent.
Another suspicious discovery was there were no tire tracks in the dirt leading to or from Rounds’ red pickup truck, Cooley says. The weekend he disappeared, it was raining in Lucin so had he left and come back, there would have been markings in the ground. But Cooley also says it appears the truck was pressured washed as it was noticeably clean.
“There is no mud on the tires, there’s no mud on the rims but the wheel wells are full of mud like they’ve been driven in the rain,” Cooley explains. “It’s been cleaned except the wheel wells … And when I got in the pickup…the seat was scooted up to the point I didn’t even have to move it to drive. I’m 4’11”, Dylan is 5’11” and every time I’ve ever gotten in Dylan’s pickup, I can’t reach the pedals.”
Cooley also noticed the truck was in 4-wheel drive but she and everyone else in the family knew 4-wheel drive had not been working since Rounds got a new transmission transfer case several months ago. He often complained about not being able to use the feature and having to truck his truck without it.
Rounds’ wallet and phone are missing but everything else appears normal at the farm. Cooley says police were able to get a ping on the phone that was at or within 15 miles of his property on Saturday at 3:41 p.m.
Nevada and what’s next
Rounds often visited Montello, Nevada, which is 26 miles from Lucin, and it’s the last place someone physically saw him.
“He’d go into the bar in Montello and meet up with friends but they never came out (to Lucin) with him. There’s no reason to come out there because there’s nothing there,” Cooley says. “We don’t even know if he made it back to Utah (that Saturday).”

Never underestimate the power of a mother. This woman is very logical, calm and determined to find her son and I pray he is found safe. Prayers to this family for strength and courage 🙏
Yeah . She's holding her own here pretty well. The strength of a woman in the family during a family devastation w the living heart to not lose her abilities. God bless her. My mom she wouldn't care she would just use it for sympathy and attention.
She is proactive in finding out what happened to het boy.
Prays for his safe return
If this was my Son I wouldn't be calm I would be a basket case.
Love your comment❤
The lack of action by the police is suspicious in itself. Thank you East Idaho News for getting this out there.
Agree,
Amen, amen 🙏 🙌 👏
Indeed
wholly agree!
This may be a long shot, and not sure how this came to mind but he is young, healthy, has exceptional knowledge of farming, maybe abducted by the government out there in the desert. It’s ridiculous how many people go missing and are never found.
He was last seen at the bar. His truck returned & cleaned & put back on Dylan’s farm. So it would make sense that someone knew him well enough to return the truck to the property & knew there was a pressure cleaner on the property. Start pulling in the guys that worked on the property & work your way out from there.
If someone knows something it costs nothing to call in anonymously. Do the right thing.
Well said !
@@TG-fq6vy thank you
Exactly. And most likely, the boots didn't fit the guy he gave a lift to so they were thrown to the side.
"Do the right thing". That's all that needs to be said. Be the kind of human being you would like someone else to be if YOU were lost.
And being the seat moved forward,,,maybe some gal at the bar took for a RIDE ,,,boots off you know what I mean,,,or if it is a ground hand,,then I'm assuming he's be short.

She’s so eloquent

There are only two reasons police department can't do their job - They are incompetent or they are Involved in the disappearance. The mother can absolutely take over the whole police department and run it hundred times better. Those police is a total embarrassment.
Exactly what I was thinking.
What Americans don't seem to realize is it is NOT the job of police to protect you, your family, your children or your property. Their ONLY job is to generate revenue for their local departments. That's it. Nothing more. They are not required to help this family or any other.

It breaks my heart that this woman *knows* her son is a victim of foul play but she can't get police to do their job. I give her so much credit for keeping her shit together & giving such detailed info to the public, basically investigating this herself. Such a strong woman. Prayers Dylan is found!! 🙏
🚨 hmm. Who can trust them? Some are amazing others hmm!
She doesn't know that he was a victim of foul play, she thinks he was. And she says the cops aren't doing their job, is she with them 24/7 so she knows what they are or aren't doing? Also, people (adults) go missing all the time by choice and if there's not enough evidence to show foul play then the cops don't spend all their time and resources looking for 1 person, especially in a small community. If a whole family went missing that's a different story, or a child. I can tell by a lot of people's comments that they don't watch or read many crime stories.
@@yippyfknskippy7340 I think she does, the shoes convince her something is wrong. But she keeps hoping for a good outcome. Either way I hope she gets answers.

This woman knows her stuff. I mean, really, really knows what she's talking about: from forensics, to trucks, the politics of (probably crooked) cops, desert geology, farming, tech, and way beyond. She's level-headed, calm and doesn't seem to bullsh*t herself. If they won't help her the least -- and I mean very least -- they can do for her is let her solve this on her own. Then they need to give her total control of her jurisdiction. And then she needs to come and be MY mom.
I wish I had any info at all to give her - she's the type of person that just needs one good clue and she'll have figured it out yesterday. No matter how small, people, if you know ANYTHING get in contact with her! She'll do the rest.💜

Praying with you.
Amen
Or recovery' He can rest in peace
I don't think safe return is an option at this point. This poor momma is well aware she's looking for her son's body. She has hinted as much. What makes her appear otherwise is her drive to find answered and get him home. But she knows he isn't coming home alive.
It's so difficult to even think about being in her position....I imagine laying in bed at night is when everything just really devastates her. Not just missing her child, but the not knowing for absolute sure that some deranged sicko isn't keeping him and hurting him. The guilt of even laying in a bed in her home when she doesn't know for sure that he's not in terrible distress...all the what ifs.
This is whats keeping her strong. She needs to know he's not currently in distress...one way or another.
Search and rescue should be all over this. They don't need a crime to get to work. This is so unnerving. I am really happy to see that she is so thorough on her information.
Yeah she said search and rescue were great and got right to searching and they’re the ones who found the boots! 🙌🏼
That truck should have been processed for evidence, fingerprints, fibers etc.. especially since it appears that someone else may have been driving it. If it was pressure washed to get rid of evidence on the outside, it was probably wiped on the inside put police can still find minute pieces of evidence on the inside of a vehicle even if it has been 'wiped clean'.
That truck should not have been touched, broken into, driven etc... I know she means well but she should not have driven that vehicle or allowed anyone access to it and the police should have treated the truck as part of a possible crime scene. So many times, evidence of a homicide or violent crime is found in the vehicle.
The boots being found tossed on the ground is ominous. That alone is grounds for the police to take this case very seriously.
Also, just because her son did give this Chase guy a ride does NOT mean that there is no motivation for Chase to have harmed him.
He is in custody on unrelated charges so has been in trouble with the law. Not saying Chase is responsible but he still needs to be looked at very seriously. Where was he during the period that her son went missing? does he have a solid alibi for that time period that can be corroborated by other people?
Her son's encounter with Chase was the one out of the ordinary and unusual thing that happened before her son went missing.
I hope they find him but it does not look good. In all likelihood he is no longer alive and has been murdered but that cannot be assumed to be the case yet. At the very least he looks to have been taken against his will, his boots being found as they were speaks volumes. Poor kid.
from another interview i saw with her, it sounded like the put in like 10 hours across two days, and called it quits.

Also when that guy was constantly calling the police station. And she said they weren’t calling him back. And then he called her and she called him back , she should’ve never done that.
What man or what person if they’re being looked at in a missing persons case, is gonna just keep calling the police and calling the police and calling the police and then calling the mother of the victim.
The police were probably stunned that he kept calling. They were probably trying to see every time he called like, was his voice different, did he seem shaky or something like that. More nervous sounding, more agitated because they weren’t calling him back.
I mean she doesn’t know why they weren’t calling him back maybe that’s why they weren’t calling him back , because they were probably losing your mind because he kept calling so much.
And like she kind of doesn’t make sense a little bit. I understand that that’s her son but you can’t say I don’t know this man I have no idea about him I don’t know anything about him, and then turn around and say yeah well we check them off our list because in our eyes you know the timeline didn’t match up.
How the hell do you know he’s truth.
You can’t say that you think he’s telling the truth when you just said that you don’t even know him.
Here’s another thing, how did that man end up out there with no shoes cut up scratched bleeding, how did that happen. So I’m thinking so did somebody abuse this man and kind of rough them up a little bit take your shoes so we couldn’t make it back to town and you know sending him a message you better keep your mouth shut. So for some reason did they come back and find Dylan because maybe this guy told Dylan something you see what I’m saying. The guy just didn’t drop out of the sky and land in the middle of the desert. I mean we don’t even know How or why he was out there in the middle of the desert with no shoes on. I don’t know about anybody else but the last place you wanna be is that in the middle of the desert with no shoes on. I mean if Dylan gave him a ride and he had no shoes on and it was raining wouldn’t there have been mud or something in his truck or is that a different day

PS: I hate to say this but everything so far points to Dylan's disappearance as one that David Paulides would write about in his Missing 411
cases. Just very high strangeness all over the disappearance of this boy.
I have a strong feeling that law enforcement knows a lot more than they are letting on.
What are they trying so hard to keep covered up?
@@Jane.Doe. I'm not sure law enforcement is necessarily trying to cover it up. LE assigned to cover rural areas have very few resources to handle situations like this and have to get funding approval to call in extra resources for investigations. I have to wonder if the officers assigned in this area have even dealt with a missing person's case like this before. They didn't treat it as a potential crime scene and made so many obvious mistakes that most people with a basic knowledge of criminal investigations wouldn't make. They probably mistakingly assumed that Dylan took off on his own accord and would return at some point. However, what harm would it have done to put up police tape and keep people from the area while trying to determine what happened?
I think police everywhere should treat suspicious missing person's cases as potential crime scenes even if they believe the person might have left voluntarily. It's more harmful in the long run to NOT treat it like a crime scene and later discover that it was than to just treat it like a crime scene and find out later that it wasn't. I heard state police and the FBI are working the investigation now (the extra resources I mentioned). I truly hope they can give this family the answers they are looking for.

He sounds like an amazing young man! Such a shame something like this had to happen to such a hardworking person. Not to imply there are people more “deserving” of course! But you’d hope in a just world (which this world is not) that industrious-minded folks would get left out of the nonsense. Here’s hoping they can find him!

His boots are key. If a farmer or outdoors person takes their boots off you place them neatly side by side upright. However, if someone removed his boots to tie his feet they would have just tossed them haphazardly. This is a very important detail.
He kicked those boots off to give his family a heads up he was in trouble or someone drove him away into desert and made him take his boots off to put him at a disadvantage before getting out of truck. Walked him into desert and forgot about boots until he got going. Dumped them at house and not onto road cuz that gives a direction of travel. Hope the family gets answers. Mom is hot on it. Seems like a great family and a young farmer. Love it. Sending love to the family❤️ I hope this reaches you and those you love in great health and happiness❤️🙏😎

I have a son he’s 25 now.
Till this day I don’t care and I tell him I don’t care. I mean I don’t call him constantly , I don’t bug him constantly nothing like that but when I know he’s going out of town with his friends or his girlfriend because he always calls me when he is.
We we chitchat !
Gives me the details. ! Before I hang up, he goes mom I know .
Yeah and I don’t care . I am going to say again.
Be attentive to your surroundings, all the time and watch what and who is around around you.
Don’t let her go to the bathroom by her self and you don’t go to the bathroom by yourself. If you’re at a concert or wherever , if you gotta go to the bathroom, she gets up with you and waits outside the bathroom door and the same with her .
He rolls his eyes , lol, and goes mom , did you just really say that?
I would never let her walk to the bathroom by herself . Especially at a concert .
I said you know what I’m saying but I told him the same thing when he’s with his friends. Doesn’t matter I know you’re 25 he’s in good shape , he works out blah blah blah that doesn’t mean that you can’t be taken by three guys , just because they saw you pull up in a nice truck and you’re wearing a nice pair of boots and nice clothes , they might think you’re rich .
Bed not rich. But he has nice clothes that he keeps a nice for certain occasions that’s it.
He’s not poor , but he’s not rich.
I said you don’t understand people look at certain things to try to determine if you’re gonna be worth the trouble.
But here’s a good thing.
And I don’t ask him to do it with me and it doesn’t bother me , that he doesn’t do this with me but him and his friends and his girlfriend and his friends girlfriends, all share their location.
There is not at any given time that five of his friends don’t know where he is and vice versa. They all know we’re each other is at all times.
And I really feel comfortable knowing that.
And don’t feel bad for constantly being on him because it was just maybe three weeks ago he had to take his girlfriend somewhere that was 14 hours away and they each had to drive a separate vehicle because she had to go away for a little bit for work so she had to pack stuff up but she had to bring her car too so they couldn’t drive together but she was following him. Well he had to go and he stopped at a gas station, I don’t know if it was in Arkansas or TX where it was but anyway he said the town looks kind of really desolate you know.
Well guess what when he got into the gas station with her and she’s a very pretty girl, he said hey can I use the bathroom and they were like no man is closed. Jimmy goes what do you mean you have a sign up this is the bathroom and( was like four other guys and him and his girlfriend)
. And he was like you know come on man let me use the bathroom, what’s the big deal?
Why do you have a sign up that says you can use the bathroom if you’re not gonna let people use the bathroom?
No answer .
He asked if it was because I’m white ? No dude man you just can’t use the bathroom.
So then all of a sudden one of them got up and said hey you got a money.
He said yeah I got some money he said and you're not getting it.
So the guy got up and started walking towards him and he just moved his hand and he has a license to carry. Even though he was in another state, I think, NO he wasn't. He was right there on the border, but he didn’t care he said I didn’t care and he said now he said if you think it’s worth it to try to get five -ten dollars out of my wallet he said go ahead.
But I’m not giving it to you and they were staring at his girlfriend like really bad. He said she was kind of trying to hide behind him and they were scaring her. Staring at her and whispering to each other.
He goes so what’s gonna be. He goes cause I don’t care he said I’m not starting to trouble you are.
He said I took criminal justice in college to become a cop .
He said so I know the law. He said he go ahead. I don't have a record ….can you say the same? Me and her able to verify where and why we are on this trip ;which would validate up stopping here to use the bathroom. Me, Her, and 4 of you. Who do you think they are going to believe
And they were like well dude we don’t want no trouble
He said really?
It sure didn’t seem like you didn’t want any trouble to me.
Seems like you want trouble.
They said no we don’t want any trouble . So he turned around and started walking away and they said well you can use the bathroom !
He turned around and said, Oh really? I can!
Do I look like a fing idiot?
He took out his wallet and threw 5 dollars down on the floor.
He said there you go !
He said if you need it that bad there it is . He said I wouldn’t have had a problem giving you $10 if you really needed it and would have acted decent. But you didn’t.
He said I have plenty of black friends, they don’t act this way, kinda disappointing because I am not that guy . I don’t wanna use your #%%^*%#^ bathroom !
Seems to be a 200 year old issue that , I nor my family ever had anything to do with .
and my family isn’t that family either.
He said one of the guys followed him out and apologized.
He said apology accepted and shook his hand.
When he stopped by to pick up his dog and told me, he said Mom, I am not gonna lie, I was scared. 4 of them one of me?
But I had no choice . Had to stand up or I was toast!!

To me it seems like a brokeback sort of situation. He showed no interest at all in girls to the point his mom nearly laughed at that possibility. Lived in an isolated area. They find the guy he was involved with they find his killer
A suggestion. Find whom ever is in charge of the non cooperating police dept & start a campaign of letters, text, newspaper questions about why this isn’t perused. Move up the food chain & continue. Is this sherif voted into office? Campaigne against him. If appointed, by whom & bug him. Do background checks on these people. Hire a PI. Does the little town he was last seen in have a bank? They usually have street cameras & interior cameras that sometimes give crime seen evidence.

Did anyone check under the mound of dirt? I used to be a search dog handler and still have contacts in SAR. If the family wants help with search dogs contact the Polly Klaas Foundation. I’m in Oregon and I know a couple of handlers who do searches for that organization. This is separate from county SAR so you wouldn’t be having to go through sheriffs departments.
Or in the grain in grain truck?
@@ciscokid0110 I thought of this as well. In the hopper. Did they check inside the pile of dirt where his boots were?
I don't think he's on the farm based on the evidence pointed out on the truck.
@@falconquest2068 Could be set up that way to lead people off the trail. Someone else drove the truck there, someone else left the boots after they moved or took him to another location (or left boots and then took him). I didn't hear if he managed to get his grain covered before the rain. Seems like it found safely parked in the barn & dry.
She left Dillon and his sisters for 3 yrs so she may not know her son that well
So tragic that they aren't getting the help they so desperately need. My heart goes out to his family, especially his mom.
This mother is a strong woman.
I couldn't talk about this without breaking down completely.
What a lovely person..
Hope you find your boy ❤🙏
I'm so sorry that this happened to your son Candice. Its unbelievable the lack of concern by authorities of a possible crime scene. Prayers for your family.
*Thank you to uploader for doing this story helping her.
I've never heard of a suspect that didn't say no it wasn't me ...this guy named Chase I know he's a person of interest but he's not gonna say hey come get me. I so hope everything goes in your favor Candace... God bless you and family
