About this video: This video is a complete guide on how to download and install Java 17 for Minecraft. Why would you want to get Java for Minecraft? Well, Minecraft mods and servers you will need Java installed. Java is also needed for many other applications, and this video will show you how to get Java 17 for those applications as well.
The first step of getting Java is downloading it. You can find a link in the description above to download Java. That will take you to our complete text guide on how to download and install Java for Minecraft mods & servers.
On this page, click yellow “Download Java 17” button. This will take you to the official Java 17 download page. Here, you will be able to select “Windows”. Then, click the link next to “x64 Installer”. Java 17 will then start downloading.
Now, double click on the Java installer you downloaded. You may need to confirm you want to open it. Then, click “Next” twice and Java 17 will install. You can then, click close the installer.
At this point, you will be able to right-click on .jar files like Minecraft mod installers and server software, select “Open With” and click “Okay” with Java. Your Java program will now open.
In some cases, you will be able to simply double-click the Java program to open it. However, it is worth noting that if you can’t double-click on your .jar applications, you will want to run the Jarfix.

To run the Jarfix for Java 17 though, just download it from our website linked above, and double click on it. Instantly, the Jarfix will run linking all of the .jar files on your computer back to Java.

i gotta thank you so much for this somehow in my own attempt to download java 17.... i deleted all my non foldered files
i'm not sure if you'll see this, but can you make a video detailing how to do this on mac? I feel like it's a much more complicated process because Jarfix won't open since Microsoft Windows applications aren't supported on macOS. I haven't found a single person, video, or website that explains it well!

I installed Java, Downloaded optifine clicked on "Open With Java" but the Window ot actually Install optifine never opened
It gets stuck in a loop for validating

So I am having a problem with the minecraft launcher. It keeps saying that it looks like I have to renew Gold when I don't want to buy Xbox gamepass to play Java on PC. I just bought Java yesterday and I am not sure if they changed it to make Java require xbox pass or it is trying to install bedrock which shouldn't require a pass anyway. What am I supposed to do?

Everytime I try to open forge through Java, it keeps saying Java has not been installed, even though when I click on the installer, it shows that I have already installed Java. The popup says that there are errors in some switches and that I should check that the commands are valid and try again. Pls help

I´m trying to download forge on windows ten through opera, initially I didn´t have Java, I didn´t know it was required in order to open the forge installer. After following this I tried to open the forge installer but Java won´t show up as an option to open the forge installer with, pls help idk what I need to do

Im having the problem where java fixes forge itself but the mods wont go from .zip to .jav files? I already installed jarfix but they still won't change to .jar files. Help!

I'm on windows and am using this to install forge. I followed all the steps and installed it, but when I clicked Open with... > Java it just opened a blank and black window for a split second. Anybody know how to fix this?

Hey i know your how to's are working cause i have watched and done before now im coming back to minecraft but for some reason after the jdk and jarfix with and without run with administrator my "server.jar" stil says a java exception has ocurred" need to mention taht i have folowed the steps to the tea and am really bafuzeled why it gives this error it would be awsome if i got some help or idea of why this might be happening

I downloaded java but I whenever I try to play a mod it says a fatal error occurred and I can't play.

I got 17 a few hours ago and it works just fine even with the 21 available
It just gives me a file called. "jre" and it's not even Java, it'd called Java, but it doesn't work as Java.
