i did this with a carving pumpkin one year, turned out great. a couple of things though if anyone decides to try it. obviously you cant stick a whole pumpkin in the oven, cut it into wedge shapes and bake it until soft, remove the flesh into a bowl, line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spread out the carving pumpkin flesh from the bowl over the aluminum foil and bake until its dries out a bit, thats the reason carving pumpkins arent used for making pumpkin pie is that they are too juicy, but you can bake out some of that liquid. then follow the rest of this recipe
I literally refuse to watch any other pumpkin-cooking tutorial, the last handful of years I'll return to this every holiday season for the tutorial....... And the sweaty pumpkins 🤣🤣
I love your homesteading videos. I started out watching your soaping videos, as I am a soaper also. I am not really a homesteader, but I do grow a garden and can lots of my harvest. I make soap and lip balm also, and love your soaping videos, and usually watch them more than once. But you do so many different things, and I think you do a great job. You inspire me! I grow pie pumpkins and am cutting and cleaning them today to prepare and purée them. I thought there’s probably an easier way than the way I do them, “so” I searched for a pumpkin video and there you were ! Thanks for the videos, they are appreciated !
Did this yesterday. Exactly how i do my pumpkin, squash etc. Then freeze it in 2 cup increments. Easy to grab and bake. Oh, love love love your bracelets!❤
"Big sweaty pumpkins!" That's the phrase that's going to stick with me for the rest of the month! LOL Excellent video, and very useful information. Your TH-cam channel is great, and I appreciate the humanity and humor that you bring to your postings. Thank you!
I've never tried this way before. I usually cut them, seed them and lay them cut side down to bake. I dry the fresh seeds as a dewormer for our rabbit. I must try this way when I'm not in need of fresh pumpkin seeds. Thank you for the video. :)
Hi Becky (and Scott)! Didn't even think about cooking them WHOLE! Wow! What an easier way to do it! THANKS! My hubby & I live in MN and have a HUGE garden, and we have about 50-60 pumpkins and squash! This makes it so easy!!!!! You're awesome, guys!
I never new sweet pumpkins existed till this year,i was surprised at how tasty they are, thanks for the idea to roast them, they are good as a side dish or in a pie.
@@BeckysHomesteadHi, at the end you say you're going to show how to make a pumpkin pie but the video ends. Where is the recipe for making the pumpkin pie? Thanks.
For everyone looking for the REST of the recipe (for the pumpkin pie) go to Becky's other video called something like 6 Easy Pies and Cakes. Go to about 9:00 in the video to take up where this video leaves off. She makes a pumpkin pie (but uses 15 oz of canned pumpkin, which cracked me up after seeing this video. But you'll get the recipe!
Thank you for teaching me how to cook my pie pumpkin! I was going to make fried pumpkin balls this year with graham crackers, butter, and honey with my pumpkin air fried with a little spray on butter and graham cracker crust. I need my pumpkin a bit more solid than canned, and I want to have the catharsis of eating my pumpkin I enjoy leading up to Halloween.
Can you make another video on you actually making the pumpkin pie right after you bake the pumpkins please? Or can you tell me what you did with the scoops of pumpkins and what you mixed it with. Please I'm curious. I'd appreciate it (:
When I have made pumpkin pie, I'd carve up the pumpkin (into quarters) and remove the seeds before roasting it. Otherwise, you could get a steam burn when cutting it up, unless you let it stand for awhile.
Same thing, only microwave on one side six minutes full power turn, and repeat for six minutes. It will fall apart. Do what you will With the seeds, I dump them out for the squirrels and they have a food orgy. The meat of the pumpkin goes into the food processor, and the peel I leave for the deer. No waste. Easy peasy, label freeze.
I couldn't imagine how a pumpkin turned into the mush in the can on the store shelves so I searched you tube and this was the video that popped up. I had no idea you could put a pumpkin in the oven. Mystery solved. I'm going to do this once I get the garden going!
Hello Becky. I realize this is an older video but I'm glad to have come across it. I also like fresh pumpkin. Our family enjoys pies and breads made with it. I break off the stem and cut it horizontally. Then clean out the seeds etc. Then bake at 350'. For how long it takes to become soft enough. I do blend it to be ready to bake with it.
Lovely we usually are sweet potato fans. However you inspired me to try the pumpkin pie for the fam. Going to bake one today. Thanks From Ypsilanti Michigan
Now I get it. Lol is it tasting better with the small pumpkin rather then the larger one? Out of few videos your only 1 who mentioned peeling skin I cut it like a potatoes. Thank you.
Take the seeds out before roasting to mitigate bitterness. Ever consider brining the pumpkin before roasting? You won't regret it. This is a custard pie so yes on the puree. Sure, a rustic pie os ok, but don't ignore the first principles.
Big sweaty pumpkin, lol You laughing had me cracking up Becky. Love your videos! Thanks for the pumpkin tutorial. Usually I just use canned pumpkin but you've inspired me to use fresh pumpkins the next time I make pumpkin pie. Thanks Becky!
I cut my harvested pumkin n seeds. Roasted both. It has alot of water So do i just drain the pumkin meat and then make my pumkin. Pie etc. Never harvested a punkin etc. Thank u for video. I harvested bout november 1 or 2nd of 2022. Its now january 23 2023.❤🙏

Omg's! I laughed so hard when you pull that tray out and talked about big sweaty pumpkins and I had to just keep rolling with all the different things I could come up with. Apparently I'm the Twisted Sister. Thank you so much for the great morning laugh! LOL
Actually, you DON'T have to stab it prior to roasting. I just did one for the first time and I didn't stab it until it was done. Plus, I pulled the stem right off, which makes things easier. And the skin peeled right off, so no need to scoop out the flesh.
That bottle of wine is empty, that's why is funny 😂
Miguel Goncalves i was thinking the same thing 😂
Lol
where is the bottle?
BIG bottle 😝
Still laughing 3 years later...😂😂😂

Omg THANK YOU!!!! I was going crazy looking for it .

THANK YOU!! the ones i got were just to hard to cut raw and i jeeded to know i could cook them first
i have found the if you cut your pumpkins in half and clean out the seed out your baking time is cut in half and its easier to clean the pulp out

We always broke off the stem
cut them in half
Scoop out the seeds and gunk and place in a strainer
Bake the pumpkin
Puree flesh
Bake seeds
Madi Barlow I’m wondering if it’s easier to get the seeds out or something.....?
It makes more sense to scoop the seeds out before baking
