- Take a bite of this smooth, luscious pumpkin pie, close your eyes, and be transported back to the good ole days….Grandma’s toasty warm house on a holiday, the people you love gathered around, hot rolls in the oven, and feeling thankful to just “be”. As Nanny would say, save some room for “a little, or a lottle” dessert! I took her advice and added an extra egg yolk to the pumpkin filling in this pie. I couldn’t decide between brown sugar and granulated sugar, so I used a little of both. I think you’ll like it.
When I was little, and to this day, I love cooking with my Mama. I remember one Thanksgiving, early on, I was probably seven years old,…She showed me how to make my favorite: Pecan Pie! I was so excited to get into the flour, roll the dough, and create something tasty. Everything she makes is made with love. That really is the secret ingredient.

For some reason this comment is posted more than once.
I'm not a fan of noisy, bubbly channels either, but I also have a hard time hearing talking on a video with louder music playing at the same time, like this one. It's odd, because the voice seemed loud also, as if a person wasn't talking while cooking, but added the commentary later while sitting too close to a microphone. I did find if I turn off the sound and turn on captions I can watch more videos, and don't miss good recipes like this one.

Your recipe for the pie is almost identical to mine.I don’t use flour though, I use 4 large eggs, one is a whole egg, the other ones are the yolks. I also put pie in at 425 for 15 mins. Then back to 350 for 45 mins. Never cracks on me doing it this way. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

Libby's recipe from the can is the best. I've been making it every year for at least forty years. I always use homemade pie crust. I prefer my pumpkin pie cold so keep it refrigerated.
Yes to homemade crust! The Libby’s recipe is good too. This one is similar, but with more sugar, half being brown sugar, and extra egg yolk (my grandmas way of making it) and a heaping tablespoon flour (helps make a nice and neat slice…allows the filling to set up well). egg wash your crust on the bottom it helps seal it so you will have a crispy bottom
Hi, I haven’t tried that. I do love an egg wash on homemade hamburger buns and bread 👍 I’ve started using glass pie plates more lately. I like how I can keep up with how the bottom is browning in glass, thanks for watching!

BUT.. i will tell you, there is a cake I had that was out of this world. I found a recipe I could follow online and gave it a shot. as bad as I am in the kitchen it STILL came out delicious. if you make it I am sure it will be divine. it's the russian cake called Medovik. I used the recipe of the youtuber "Pants Down Aprons On". i made a long comment about my experience making it. This is more inline of a "coffee cake" type than it is a regular cake. It is unbelievably delicious. seems like your dad and i are in the same line of palet lol.. i am positive he would love this. Happy Thanksgiving.

I had a baking business for several years, and had all kinds of cake requests. A few Russian layer cakes, authentic Black Forest cake (with making your own cherry filling, whipped cream, chocolate, very good!) all kinds. I like a challenge!

I'm hoping this is a great recipe. I was visiting in another State some years ago and was visiting a church. They fed the group and had the best pumpkin pie I've ever tasted. The pastor told me later the lady who made that pie had won several awards. Maybe yours will come close too. :)

Good job. When making the dough it’s critical not to use to much water. It can look great but it’s tough. They sell silicon pie crust covers that come in segments so they will fit many size pie plates. That whipped cream looks awesome. Gonna make this week.

Yeah, either you make a great crust or it is as tough as asphalt shingles ... so in my house it is pumpkin pudding!!!

Just found your channel, your pie looks delicious, and I am going to make it, I like a sweet pie crust so how much sugar should I put in the dough, since that makes 2 pies. My other pie will be cherry. Thanks for the recipe.

I never thought to use parchment to roll out my dough. Great idea ! Will try. My mom used refined lard instead of crisco. Lots of folks stay away from crisco these days. My husband couldn’t eat it. I wonder if I could just replace with lard. Great video. Easy to follow and understand.

Yes lard is a perfect option. I try to use what I see advertised as "leaf" grade lard. Don't kniw the technical term. But google finds it 😋
Seed oils are not my preferred oil anymore. Canola? No such seed or plant. Canola is a semi-acronym,stands for CANadian Oil Light Acid. A form of inedible rapeseed that's been modified so humans can eat it.

Really great recipe. Delicious flaky crust and the filling was like an extravagant pumpkin mousse. I added a little more of my homemade pumpkin spice mix to the spiced cream topping along with a touch of pumpkin bourbon and it was sublime. Love the video… I will at least try the spiced whipped cream.. I suck making pie crust.. been trying off and on for 30 yrs. Finally got real with myself.. I’m one of those people that just can’t get it! So my plan was to buy a pumpkin pie and top it with spiced whipped cream!!

Crust a problem? Here's some tricks I've learned.
When forming the disc (before refrigerating) make it LARGE. Like at least a six inch disc. When you go to finally roll it it doesn't have to spread and crack as much. I have a 7inch fork I use to measure.
You are chiling the dough for one reason, for the water to become more evenly distributed in the dough. At least an hour, preferrably 4 hours.
Use wondra flour to dust the work surface. Wondra flour has already been partially cooked and thus becomes resistance to being absorbed like normal flour, it takes a lot less to insure the dough and surface don't stick. It comes in shaker cans, and should be next to the normal flour.
Add a tablespoon of regular sugar to the dough. Don't know why but it seems to help resist forming gluten, thus the dough doesn't get chewy, stays flaky.
Don't be so hard on your efforts, I took 32 years to learn 😱

This is the recipe I use in my cottage law bakery. However I use butter flavored Crisco in the crust and add a pinch of black pepper to the pumpkin mix. It adds a depth of flavor and yet stays undetectable. I leave it up to the client to add whipped cream.

Thanks! I’ve made this recipe with homemade pumpkin puree and it works great. I roasted little sugar pumpkins in the oven and made a nice thick puree in a food processor, and used the same amount the recipe calls for. Let me know if you make one 🙂 I hope you enjoy! Yes, it will taste awesome. Just make sure that you drain the pumpkin overnight to remove excess liquid.

I am making one now as I tipping. I make my own pumpkin filling from scratch. I substitute half butter half shorting in the crust
