DO NOT THROW AWAY THE LIQUID!!! I used this method to make pumpkin purée from regular pumpkins that I grew in my garden last year. But instead of throwing the pumpkin juice down the drain, I saved it and made a pumpkin syrup out of it. It’s super simple and oh so tasty.
Add equal amounts of brown sugar to your juice and some pumpkin pie spice to taste. Add a teaspoon at first. Reduce it on medium heat for 40 minutes or so (give or take five minutes) until it’s thickened. Add more spice if you think it needs it. Goes great on pancakes and waffles. My boyfriend puts it in his coffee. Use a very large pot. This bubbles a lot as it cooks.
Thank you! A pumpkin I got from the pumpkin patch got pierced on the drive home. The entire internet was saying dont use it for baking and were not giving instructions on how to make puree with it 🙃. This video helped me to not just throw it away and waste my money
A favorite pumpkin recipe in my house is pumpkin roll. It’s a recipe I got from my grandma and I make at least 15 a year (mostly between thanksgiving and Christmas).
We grew pumpkins this year, and are going to cook them in our wood burner to make a puree for something in our Thanksgiving dinner. Thanks for your lovely video!
I roast my pumpkins whole, after cutting off the top, or sometimes I just pierce it in several places, then put on a baking sheet to roast. If the pumpkin is large, you can remove an oven rack. It cooks in about the same time as the cut pumpkins, depending on the thickness of the flesh. It's so much easier to cut it and remove the stringy bits and seeds when it's cooked.
@@marcyinspired1442 haha u have no idea I had to scan thru many vids and non of them were satisfying or just wanted to be quick! you were easy to listen too and brief yet informative! Thank u I was in a pinch! 👍

Quick question, i put a small tea light candle into my pumpkin (it’s in a metal container) can I still use my pumpkin to bake after 2 days of having it out? Also I know you said that the jack o lantern pumpkin may not be good for baking but can i instead just add some extra sugar for baking or something like that?
Hi Marcie....just a tip to make it easier for you...dont bother cutting the top off, just cut the whole thing in half. Its easier to get to the guts and once its cleaned its ready to put in your baking pan.
I agree...I quickly made pumpkin empanadas for Thanksgiving....they were delicious! I will use some of your tips on my next batch....thank you, Marcy! You are as pretty and sweet as your recipes! :)
I heard that you can leave the water in if you’re going to make soup so I’ll probably leave some water in for the soup ones and the rest of it I will drain I bought the strainer cloth so that I can get the water out and then I will probably freeze some of the pumpkin so I can have it puréed and ready to go.
I usually try to use it within a couple of weeks. Because there are no preservatives, on about the third week, you'll start seeing mold form. So, if you don't think you'll be using it by then, it's a good idea to freeze it.
hahaha i still drop the pumpkin on the floor, pumpkin is very much part of our diet like a regular vegie like potatoes... so yum roasted, made into pies, scones, soups and on it goes...and now my dog cookies...
Thank you , you did every thing I do but strange the juice my pumpkin did not have that much water in it I had to add water to puree it but all is well thanks!
That is too funny, and yet not funny at the same time! I often have to have my husband smell things because my sense of smell is not the best either. I was going to say 2-3 weeks for the pumpkin purée, but I see that someone else answered with two weeks. That's definitely a safer bet.
I didn’t hear the temperature that you were going to cook the pumpkin out I’m guessing 350 so I’m gonna do 350 for like how long it takes for the pumpkin to get soft I’ve never seen anyone put aluminum foil on top of it. Most people don’t do that but maybe that helps I don’t know I did see some that were kind of burnt on the top but it didn’t seem to affect the pumpkin at all the meat of it. I don’t have any foil so I’ll probably have to do it without foil but I think I have parchment paper so hopefully I can do it at 350 and it’s an electric stove. I’ll keep my eye on it and I guess I will freeze some of it so I can have I don’t have a big processor I just have a little blender and a little processor so I have to use them to make the purée and I guess I’ll drain out the water.
If you mean keeping the pumpkin water in the purée, it makes it way too runny and difficult to work with in any recipe. I've tried that before and made a mess. Now, I run it through cheese cloth every single time. If you mean using the pumpkin water for something else, I'm not sure. I've never given it any thought and have always just poured it down the sink. Perhaps, someone else can weigh in on this conversation. I'd be curious to know.
