Remembering The Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Game

  • After almost 15 years, Crisis Core is finally leaving the PSP and heading to modern consoles with all new features! This was the action focused Final Fantasy game that as a young Kingdom Hearts fan I needed. Combine that with having it on the go as I traveled a ton growing up and you had the perfect entry point for young Final Fantasy fans as well as a love letter to the original fans from 1997.

I named my dog after Zack... He passed away due to old age. Finishing Crisis Core and naming my dog after the game's protagonist is like me stabbing myself in the heart with two buster swords.

Same. First game to make me cry. I don't mean just shed a manly tear either, I mean "blinking isn't working" levels of sad.

Everything was great about this game, the story, the combat, the atmosphere. BUT the most laudable part of CC, is it is one of the few games where there is real character progression. You really see Zach go from silly and naive to strong and idealistic. There is even a physical change as the game progresses to emulate this maturity (hair, clothes, scar). It’s the absolute best part of the game that games just don’t do anymore.

Loved this game so much. As others have said, this was the first game to ever make me cry, that final scene just hit different. I still have Price of Freedom on my spotify playlist and I get a little emotional every time I hear it.

Such good memories with this game. It really got to me. I loved the gameplay and the story a lot. Zack was a great character. I've replayed this a good amount of times too. It's funny, I remember so vividly not being able to skip the cutscenes, so after my third playthru my total game time was so long lol. Can't wait for the remake.

This game was such a great experience, the music had me banging my head the entire time, the Sense of duty and honor in this game really makes you respect Angeal, makes it hurt even more when he eventually fights you (No honor remains OST IS A BANGER ) and the final conclusion to Zacks journey at the end, man his last stand against an entire ARMY, I shed many tears at the end of this game, the price of freedom hurts every listen.

This game, Tactics: War of the Lions, and Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together are my top three (CC being third). I hope they port 012 Dissidia Duodecim with added content; seems like a no brainer.

if anyone is lucky enough to have that old PS3 3D screen, when you hook up a PSP to it, it autoformats it to fit the screen fully, without the borders like on a normal HDTV. The Sony PS3 3D TV looks like a PSP Go screen anway, so its fits and looks amazing.

Played OG Ff7 in the early 2000s...the compilation was coming together around that time and this was a must play for any Ff7 fan. We knew what was going to happen to Zack but we just didn't know how it was going to play out...and man did they not make Zack Fair one of the dopest video game characters smh. Zack is one of the illest characters...looking back doe...the story and some characters were a little iffy or weird lol and for OG fans we were like the heck? Why you got Genesis quoting nonsense out of a book 🤣. Still got my PSP copy of this game and never letting it go...and Ff7 CC R is a day one purchase! 🎮🔥🇨🇦

This is one of those games that I regret not ever beating. I am a massive FF7 fan and I enjoyed getting the game and playing it back in the day, but I just never reached the end. I think it may even still be sitting in my PSP boxed up in my storage right now. I will absolutely be grabbing Reunion when it comes out.
I honestly didn't realise how much of a fan of this game you were Matty, but it's great to see how happy you are to be covering it and talking about the remaster.
Question: Do you think that the new buster sword being in the Reunion trailer might mean that this remaster's continuity might actually be the events leading up to Remake? I mean they called it Reunion (When they could have just called it Remastered or HD like they have some of their other remasters) and they have even redid some of the voices with the actors from Remake, or so I have heard. What do you think?

  • @arturoaguilar6002
    @arturoaguilar6002 ปีที่แล้ว

I never played the original, and I'm first playing the remaster, and I see the remaster got the buttons remapped and the UI redesigned to fit better with FFVII: Remake aesthetic.
Nowadays I'm a bit more open to different gameplay styles, but back then I probably would had hated the game: I'm more of a fan of turn based or ATB gameplay, and this is more of an action game where the whims of the slot machines determines when your materia levels up (not to mention they determine also the special power ups' activation, and access to limits and summons) rather than defeating enemies. The RNG nature of the gameplay incentives you to make each battle last as long as possible (to the point that I had enemies just get bored and flee from battle), so you have more chances of leveling up your materia.
PS: The part where Yuffie tries to distract Zack with a save point in order to rob him is such a nice reference to the original FFVII I was smiling during the whole scene.

Crisis Core was my first game in the FF7 compilation, though my first experience was with Advent Children. A year or so after playing Crisis Core, i got a PS2 and attempted FF7. I never got past Kalm and Cloud telling his recollection of the Nibelheim incident
I loved crisis core and bought game and psp during the pandemic. Sadly the battery doesnt really last long and dies too easily for me to even utilize sleep mode, so i'm nit really able to play. So i plan on getting Reunion on Switch to once again play in portable mode, with occasional chance to play in docked mode

This might be a hot take but I thought the combat was awful and the only thing that held the game back. If Reunion makes it play more like FF7R then I'll be thrilled and definitely play it because I couldn't deal with how clunky and restrictive the original's gameplay was.

Crisis core music was perfect the head banger sound songs, the orchestra,I hate country music but it was perfect in this game especially the tone for this game is bittersweet under the Apple tree, price of freedom those songs stuck with me. Then why three games have ever made me cry in my life silent hill 2 and this game and ffxv honestly I love cloud but Zack is someone I related to it breaks my heart that you know it was coming but those extra lines on his death bed it hurt. Just like Noctis knew of his fate he had one heart felt goodbye to his friends.

Hearing about someone who played this before ff7 and the tragedy of this game is like hearing about someone watching rogue one before the mainline story star wars. Like must have been a total mindf*** for you, but I feel like the weight of playing through it all knowing how it had to end was missed for you. Interesting to hear that perspective from a player though..

Might be the only one that didn’t care for CC. I did not care for the randomness of the combat, and the leveling etc
