Brace yourselves, Final Fantasy fans, for I have now spoken the good word about FINAL FANTASY 13. Come and join in the fun! - th-cam.com/video/oLXUdlqN1sA/w-d-xo.html
world building of ffx and strong points of past games like ff78 9 were gone soul of game was not as good and music story treat you like garbage quite the oposite of xenogears and in the end you finaly reconized omg really , what crap is that totaly stupit
Wife and I just found about the retro channel. Had to sub. Look forward to slowly seek out all the highlights of classic games we love here on the channel
just found the channel and looking forward to all the videos i have to watch, 13 has its hate and understandable but its also one of my favourites, just takes so long to actually open up, stills looks more next gen than half the next gen games out now though
@@rexusthevaliant6311 Pretty much, he made a promise and had his own unfinished business to take care of. There's a couple times you see him struggling to not be sent but you wouldn't notice unless you already knew about his condition.
People who die and don't accept their death becomes fiends, people who died and had strong will or unfinished businesses became unsent, they look alive but they are really death like auron, yunalesca and mika.
@@bigshirley8658 You're talking about yourself clearly, as you have no idea who he is ffs. Hope you got over your old man leaving you for the cigarettes.
I see everyone talking about how great the story/characters/battle system is in FF10 but I think what truly makes it great is the musical score. If To Zanarkand doesn't make you feel anything then you must be dead inside.
nobuo uetmatsu will legit go down in history as our mozart or bethoven he is a once in a century genius and artist and deserves to be as honored as the best composers in history
19:55 This question was explained when Yuna performs the first Sending you witness after a Sin attack near the beginning of the game. Spirits which don’t get Sent eventually turn into the fiends you’ve spent the entire game fighting. Auron and Seymour just have the willpower to resist that devolution for a while.
its not so much as "resisting". You can see it when Jyscal Guado tries to come back to Spira from the Farplane. Its when someone dies but feels so strongly that their purpose isnt fulfilled yet that they don't turn into fiends. Auron's purpose was to fulfill the promise he made to Jecht to take care of Tidus. Seymours' purpose was to become sin. This is what keeps them alive.
@@josephstigall7694 Their individual reasons are just that, individual. The root is resisting the change into becoming a fiend. Why they do it only matters to them as specific characters, not to the concept overall.
Had it on PS2 though as a kid I leaned more towards Kingdom Hearts and FFXII. Over the years I've come to truly understand and appreciate FFX and I recently bought the remaster for PS4. Love it now more than ever! Truly a legendary game.
I got it on ps2 ps3 ps4 and switch lite i did play outf ffx-2 but not the perfect ending i want to do it but it takes sometime since im also playing pokemon on the switch ( sword and shield ) i was with one of the 3 playstation at breskas final aeon i didnt have the items or celestial weapons i did beat seymour but compared to jecht he was childs play and i do know what to do with yu yevon but then you have to fight the aons i just hope they got zombie inflicted on them but i probalby wont be that lucky eheh
For a time in my life I didn't get overly emotionally involved in pretty much ANYTHING. As a child and early teen I was hyper emotional but in late teens to early 20's that just seemed to stop. THIS game actually opened up my closed off emotions with the scene where Tidus disappears and Yuna's confession of love. The way she composes herself after falling through him and you think she'll just lay there forever; then saying she loves him without looking at him. Heart breaking.
In the Japanese version, she says "thank you" instead of "I love you" which imo would've fit her timid character and non-direct way of speaking even better.
@@NoctLightCloud I disagree. Her staying with her back turned so that Tidus can't see her, was exactly in character for her. Quiet, reserved and timid. It's not like she kept into his arms and shouted it. She whispered it so only he could hear her and even then it was after she finally pushes herself off the floor. She had her outburst and in the moment she fell through him. Also he was disappearing and she though she'd never see h again, so "I love you.". Fits even better. Beside WHY thank him? For making her fall in love then tearing that all away??
@@blazingflameable That’s where I think the localization team absolutely killed it with FFX. They had lots of limitations with trying to fit English dialogue into the Japanese timing without making it seem out-of-place to a Western audience. And all of this in 2001, a time when a fully-voice-acted game was completely new. Sure, there were some small awkward moments (“withYunabymyside”), but all-in-all, the core emotions were preserved and culturally translated with grace. I think it’s better to make slight dialogue changes but preserve the FEELING and EMOTION of the scene, rather than translate every word precisely. Yuna saying, “I love you,” in English was a perfect choice to create the same tear-jerking effect for Western audiences that the original dialogue did in Japanese for Japan.
I love that, in a way, the game foreshadows Tidus being an Aeon from the first couple of minutes. The only entities you're allowed to name freely in FFX are the Aeons, and he just so happens to be our first one. Cheeky :)
he is not really that much of Aeon, those beasts are basically revered figures from the past who worked along side yunalesca to end Yu Yevon's fanatical designs to crush all of spira and force everyone to embrace an eternal cycle of suffering until only his dream reality remains. the Zanarkand Tidus comes from is essentially that dream reality and everything within it is just fabricated hopes and dreams of those who became Fayth under Yu Yevon's cult but some of these Fayth grew tired of dreaming and wanted to rest in peace with those they lost to war in the Farplane and so they began to plot Yu Yevon's demise by bringing their ideal "champion" into the real world to destroy Sin and end their miserable dreary dreamscape. Yu Yevon ofc saw what they were plotting and to punish them he would purposely lose Sin so he could create a new one just to spite them an crush their hopes. and so they had to gamble one last time using Tidus as the catalyst to end Sin, Dream Zanarkand, and Yu Yevon. and this worked out for them perfectly because Jecht was a Sin who could be swayed to their favor and Tidus' link to him is precisely what they needed to bring down Sin an open the way to Yu Yevon's domain the "Tower of the Dead" located deep within Dream Zanarkand. Where the party will confront the man/parasitic undead thing he became and silence him forever.
I heavily disagree that the sphere grid system is “drawn out” and leveling should happen “quietly in the background”,what I dislike the most about modern jrpgs is that I have no agency on my characters getting stronger,it’s just grinding to see a number go up,just get the number as high as the lvl gated content requires, that’s it, and at this point just get rid of leveling,it’s redundant and pointless, either involve the player in the process or get rid of it.
I agree to a point, the grid system is pretty fun, even if you have no idea how to work it, its build a character, and people love that. However, at some point, it is drawn out, and at some point grinding sphere's to make Tidus a caster, or Lulu a tank, is pointless.
@@vandalg282 well, sure I can see how it can get tiresome, if you do the endgame stuff, but still,I would rather engage with the system than just grind to see a single number go up,very, very slowly, idk maybe there should be an option to auto fill the grid, but I’m just tired of games doing everything for me.
@@vandalg282 it depends, if you choose the advanced grid you can make your characters become different classes pretty early in the game, imo this is by far one of the best skilling systems i have ever seen and this is not even my fave game in the series. what makes the sphere grid so awesome is that it becomes deeper the more you progress in the game and the more you play you understand a lot more of the mechanics of it. tbh you can easily finish the game without understanding almost half of the tools and mechanics the sphere grid has to offer
Initially its really fun early on, however, still drawn out end game, when you've already mastered your class. Even with advanced sphere grid, it takes 10+ hours to turn Lulu for example, into a tank/dps. Which is pointless of course, since everyone has a role. Ultimately you're gonna be chasing down certain powers you want on everyone (Haste, Cura, Regen, etc). So while fun, they could've just combined FF9 and FF8's stats boosting with either weapon or armor abilities.
This game came to me at a very formative time in my life when I was experiencing some difficult times with my own relationship with my father. No game will top the impact this one had on me.
The feeling of seeing how good the graphics looked in the first few cutscenes blew my mind. FFX and FFXII were straight up epics of games back then when I was younger
The combat was so amazing. I loved how you could add elemental effects to your weapons and it shows. I also loved the fact that summons were playable characters. The icing on the cake was that your summons level up and learn new moves just like all other characters in the party. The Sphere Grid was a welcomed addition as well. Everything just worked so good together.
Tidus isn’t refusing to die he’s a memory brought to life by the fayth to fight sin he’s basically a summon he only exists in this time because the fayth will him to exist. It’s like he’s a xerox of the orginal tidus and gains new memories and experiences
@@VitaEx good explanation, that's why I love the true ending if 10-2 so much. I am a sucker for good endings and 10 left me wanting more. So hyped for ,10-3 seeing as the rumors still go around and even te creators of 10 and 10-2 are still open to it and working on an story
27:30 Tidus tells his dad he hates him before the fight and held him. You have to understand the relationship he has with his dad. He expresses his anger as a confession of what he felt while at the same time loves his dad because it’s his dad and that he loves Tidus back in his sphere recording confession
10 > 9 > 7 > 6 > 8 when it comes to story, imo. The older I get, the better 10 has aged, honestly. If you include graphics, sound, and gameplay, then 7 and 10 both drop a slot. 9 is still my overall favorite FF.
@@TheGprinziv interesting that you would say 9 is your favorite but 10 has the best story. I think 9 is arguably the best FF in the entire series, and 6 is my favorite.
I played for the first time this year too (HD Remaster on Switch). Wow, just wow. Incredible experience and not just one of the best JRPG's I've ever played, but one of the best games period.
FFX was immaculate, I remember playing itfor 3 days straight when it released. Near the end it was really challenging. There was so much to unlock, secret best weapons etc. The story was perfect, emotional, intriguing, deception. The graphics were INSANE for that time. Training too in omega ruins for sphere nodes, saving up 40 or so and then using them all, filling in blank nodes with the best spheres available. Just perfect, and if you dislike this game then I don't know what's wrong with you.
@@Kaodusanya I was also 10 when I first played it. Back then I hated Tidus but a few years later I replayed it and fell in love with him😂 This is how I learned to give games a 2nd chance.
FFX is still probably my favorite game of all time. No game has compared to this experience when I was 11 years old, haha. I put 700 hours into my first playthrough and about 400 of that was blitzball.
I remember leveling up for hours and I would switch every character out and attack once then keep switching them out and using my main 3 so everyone got XP. Ah the good old days
I love this game lol. I’m pretty sure Tidus had every sphere filled on my old file to include all the other characters and his hits would do 99,999 damage lol.
I played this game back when I was around 10-12 and it changed the way I viewed games largely. I beat it in every conceivable way, and I believe I was near FC. This game is incredible
This game brings me back to my childhood, watching my older brother play just being completely enthralled with the gameplay. It's been 5+ years since we've seen in each other and all the memories come flooding back when I see stuff like this.
25:30 This is either untrue or you just weren't paying attention. She always casts mega death on her third phase transition so she would've already casted it at least once before getting down to 5k health. Yunalesca is one of the best boss fights ever because of how intense it is and how your party is almost always close to death at any given time. It's so much different than "this boss has an armored shell to break before you can do damage".
@@residentevilclone just using him as an example because mjr is the top of the retro scene. I like matty’s style though. This channel has a lot of room to grow. I can see this becoming bigger than his main channel
This dude just seems like he likes to rush through games and I 100 percent loved every minute of FFX and was glad they took their time to make things as beautiful as possible
most youtubers rush through games. Last week, I noticed a TH-camr who claimed to be "the biggest FF7 fan" (won't mention his name) to not even know basic things that even I get, and I'm not even THAT deep into the games' lores.
That's all gaming seems to be anymore, especially for streamers. That's why 16 is probably going to suck, they're trying to appeal to "new audiences" which consist of people who have a half second attention span and can't stand to play out a story.
@@blazingflameable You seriously can't be thinking that an entire new generation of people consists of only limited attention span-people? Cause my 90s gen was just as dumb (if not even dumber), in their defense.
@@NoctLightCloud of course not an entire generation of people. But it's undeniable that the trend in entertainment, videos, games, etc, is moving towards stuff that grabs attention immediately. Videos don't get watched if people's attention isn't gotten within like the first 5 seconds for example. And books, especially e-books, hardly ever do large page counts. Instead they release more books with less pages each.
I think your main problem being the time of this game (How long you spend in menus, the amount of cutscenes) is down to most jprgs not being for people who just want to play a game. You're meant to take your time with this game and savor every moment of it. It's not meant to be rushed through.
Good to see you play such an epic title. Problem is though, this game isn't designed to be rushed through and I kind of feel like you're not letting it hit the way it is supposed to. 30 hours or so is incredibly short for this game, to really enjoy it.
Just replayed this with my husband. You can hit the triangle button (on playstation) to guard during fights. If you switch in every single party member in every single fight, and at least have them guard, then switch them back out if you want, then every single party member will get AP at the end of the fight and level up. Doing this throughout the whole game as much as possible made it so that nearly every single boss fight was a walk in the park. Yes, there was one or two, like the Yunalesca fight, where there are specific mechanics that caused an issue, but as long as you know when each phase happens, and you have a particular strategy to deal with it, then it's not that hard to handle. The biggest frustrations we had were actually with chocobo racing and lightning dodging.
6:29 1 party member must have weapon buff Auto-life equipped. Then 1st action is you Raise someone with a Phoenix down, and mass heal whoever is standing. Or raise someone and swap them with a strong character after doing the careful equipment management step.
I've played all of the FFs excluding FF 1-5, and FFX is my favorite. The music, story, gameplay are all so good. The ending haunted me as a child. One of the few games that actually made me cry.
The issue is kids don't recall howany added hours of grinding etc they did compared to a player who pucks it up and plays with more expediency due to being an adult witlimited free time in an age where the medium caters far more to respecting player time.
I think your mistake was jumping away from the PS2 version for fast-forward. Not only did that open the FFX-2 can of worms, but it opens up the possibilities of you hearing the worse "remastered" version of the OST, the crappier character faces, losing your immersion because you have to TH-cam cutscenes, and missing out on some of the nuance of the story. This is the kind of game you want to take your time with, not rush.
I was playing this game in my barracks while deployed to Iraq in 2003 along with Kingdom hearts. It helped soften the blow of the situation with it's magic and fantasy. Of course incoming rockets and mortars or QRF would ruin a good part of it. Never beat it but surely will in the future.
Listen, I'm glad you played it and liked it. I really am, this is my favorite game ever. But the constant harping about how "slow" it is really annoys the shit out of me because its this opinion that is causing them to fuck with the formula for 16. They're calling it "non stop action" and it isnt even going to have an overworld. Thats not even Final Fantasy any more. Final Fantasy is story and character driven. Theyre long. God its annoying that they're accomodating the .5 second attention span current gaming culture.
25:53 Your whole party getting wiped out by Mega Death when you fight Yunalesca the first time is practically a rite of passage for first time players.
I wish you'd gotten to play this game on PS2 when it released. The pc modes you used did you no favors, & had you played the game in it's "real" time they would've been the last thing would've wanted. In it's day, FF 10's quality & feature set was so far beyond anything to come before it that "pushing thru" was the last thing on anybody's mind. For most of us, playing this game was an act of pure joy, & as sad as the ending was, the fact that the game was over was the saddest thing of all.
If you played this game when it came out, you would understand why everyone loves it. I had been playing game my entire life and this game was next level. The story and gameplay still hold up over 20 years later. Gonna buy a copy of the game and a PS2 just to replay the original again.
I have a few questions for this review. 1) You mention you dislike the fact that you game over if the current party is down. Does this bother you because if a party member is alive you could swap? In other jrpgs you also get a game over if the current party is down. I don't get Steiner back once Zidane and the good characters died. 2) The short animation for summons was also on the EU version. This is not a new feature for the remaster versions. I couldn't find info on which versions has this though. 3) You find the story complicated. I actually think it's more straight forward then most. Convulated with the dream zanarkand and stuff, i agree there. Also the "refusing to die"-state could be explained better 4) Did you suggest the game is too hard? Imho it's one of the easiest. Maybe you were rushing too much? Most enemies have a designated party member for fighting it. Those giants can be armor broken if i remember correctly 5) About that cutscene movie part... that is really unfortunate. In the footage for this video with the youtube search it shows dansg08's video, which probably everyone gets as the first entry since at least... idk. It shows up easily and it features only the FFX cutscenes not FFX-2. Still bad that you got this spoiler just because someone lumped the cutscenes together.
The sphere grid was the best part, and this is coming from someone who thought this at 11 years old, and it tells you at the beginning of the game what happens to the unsent. They eventually turn to fiends.
Love the retro content you’ve been putting out recently. I have to disagree on the battle system critiques though, I’ve always rated it as top tier. My only disappointment is the move away from turn based in later entries.
Have you ever played The Legend of Dragoon back from the ol' PS1 transitioning to PS2 days? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that game whether it's something you played back in the day, picked up years later, or will be going through a first attempt. There's a huge niche fanbase behind it still to this day
This has been my favorite game since I was 12 years old (2003). I loved everything about it. The story was absolutely magnificent, the characters were relatable and memorable, the combat was solid at that time, boss battles were incredible, and the music was absolutely perfect. I still listen to the music every single day. Wandering Flame, Phantoms, Servants of the Mountain, and Final Battle being my favorites……..but every single song was a masterpiece.
I've not played anything that beats the story in this game, it's a true masterpiece that I can play time and time again. I just fucking love this game might buy the PS2 original and frame it for my office.
After recently replaying it I've definitely come to enjoy this games story so much more than before. How much interaction that takes place between the characters is also fantastic. Each town or city you visit seeing your companions scattered around gathering info or being amazed by the attraction or species they come across 👌 the wisdom that's shared in and outside of combat by Auron and Lulu is another touch I appreciated. Combat holds up it's basic turn based stuff but it feels refreshing to play these days so i probably enjoyed it more than i should have. Only thing i dislike about this game is the sphere grid being a bit too much rather than every character having their own (personal issue) and the random encounters is something I'm glad didn't stick in today's Jrpg's
Man, this game was my entire childhood. I've been wanting to go back for nostalgia but I'm scared that it just won't feel the same after so many years and it might ruin the love I have for the game
I had the same fear. Went back and replayed it. It was still magic. Yes it's outdated if you compare it to modern games. But it's a game from early 2000 so you have to make some exceptions. Didn't change how I felt like a kid all over again replaying it
I felt the same way when I went back to it. I didn’t lose my love for it at all. I noticed more things, both good and bad, but replaying it gave me a newfound appreciation and love for what it is.
FFX holds up just as great as 2001 , there's nothing to fear trust me It's still one of the best especially the battle system. 2001 was such an extremely strong landmark year , my favorite gaming year ever behind 1998.
There's stuff you'll find out you missed as a kid like I did. I was 11 or 12 when I got this and I played this at 32 years old and it was still amazing.
I own this on almost everything. Played originally at release on PS2 and was blown away. Great gameplay and touching deep story. Yeah those puzzles were a bit long in the tooth though but it was definitely worth it. Highly recommended. 👍🏻
An interesting thing about Tidus was that the foreshadow in the very first scene you play ffx. Remember you are allowed to name Tidus whatever you wanted? That was the same for the Aeon. Yup, Tidus is A SUMMON. Dream Zanarkand is the place where all of the Aeon's faith rest until calling for action.
Remember getting a Playstation magazine back then with a demo of Final Fantasy X. Loved the demo, but never actually played the full game. But will have to at some point
Definitely rught about the Cloister of trials. Especially when you were playing this when it first came out. There was no TH-cam videos on it so I would be stuck at those things for hours and certain boss fights would literally take me days if not a few weeks to figure out as a kid. But it was fun.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. The opening is where Sin attack's dream Zanarkand in the modern age. Jecht transported Tidus & Auron from there to Spira. Dream Zanarkand was a well concealed city protected by Sin. I heard it was near the Baaj temple & difficult to access, in fact Auron said to Tidus that only Jecht can actually transport people there. So I think it's impossible to access, especially with a invincible guardian killing anyone who goes near it.
@@SeanIsCrazy Are you thinking of a different game? Lost odyssey is wonderful, but I remember it being a traditional turn based with a timed ring attack, not conditional with a weighted move-set
It’s been many years, but I’m pretty sure that version of semore he heals himself so if you cast zombie on him every time he heals he takes damage. It turns a really hard boss to super easy. I think it called zombie anyway.
I played X for the first time a couple months ago and I was surprised how much I loved it. I was worried I would get over the older graphics and technology but it holds up very good. I really enjoyed the story, it's one of my favourite games now.
Such nostalgia for me. One of the first games I played with my little bro. We played the hum of the fayth at his funeral when he died young. Hits me deep every time. 😢
14:30 omg you are spot on in regards to how in old games sometimes you would be trying to progress stories by trying to get dialogues scenes and yo think its going good but turns out its not and have to just make sure you try to speak to everyone to progress the stories. I cant recall which ones but this is deff a staple in old games
Played this game into the ground on ps2 when it came out, my Yuna was my strongest character because I had armor that allowed me to gain triple exp, and she had damage limit break as well. Eventually she completely finished the sphere grid and would smack people for 99999 with her staff it was great
11:55 the trials were awful i agree ... i also agree the leveling up system takes way to long a way to remedy that is, on a day off, i would sit there for 5 MINs upgrading everything. not doing it during the game play
I would love to see a remake of this game, in my mind i would love to see it like the final fantasy VII remake. FFX and FFX-2 is the first final fantasy games that I've played when i was young and this game has a place in my heart ♥️
imo it's still good. I'd rather have a remake of ff6, ff4, and ff8 first, then ff10 maybe. Imo the dragoons and magitechs and old dragons and dungeons deserve a pretty reimagining and revitalization, and ff10 is still gorgeous as it is. (Also, the OG PS2 game still has prettier CGI facial animations than the HD Remasters imo. They can't really do that game justice yet.)
I don't think a game really needs a remake unless the gameplay is severely outdated and borderline unplayable, especially with how it still manages to stand the test of time so far, but just having the option for an incredibly polished version of the game wouldn't hurt for the freshies
Using Fast Forward really kills the atmosphere the game is trying to create, and can easily pull you out of it. Even if you only use it for travel or combat, the way the camera moves, what is slowly revealed...All of that was intentional to help immerse you. I think you would have enjoyed it much more if you'd taken your time and appreciated it in it's entirety. I understand you had a video to put out, and spent nearly a month playing on and off(which is also another reason I think it didn't catch you as much, it really deserves to be binged), so I see why you played it the way you did. It's just a very unique experience, so a complete thorough review of it would be very difficult. When you're trying to review a game like Final Fantasy X, which is, by many, considered the LoTR of JRPGs, you really need to put extra special treatment towards it, or you're going to miss very important details, and cause people to spurg out lol-but really, it will cause you to miss what makes it great.
I hated this game the first time I played it too. But years later when I basically cheated and build optimized the whole thing I really really enjoyed it. Especially the long drawn out cutscenes. And especially the incredible soundtrack. The atmosphere. So great.
The Battle system and the superbosses were really fun for me. I also enjoyed customizing the equipment and beating penance with my own strategy. The amount of dark eons available makes it one of the best in the franchise for me :) Dark Yojimbo farming was just fantastic xD
lol love the commentary. ya the yunalesca fight made me put it down for the last month. i grinded there so fast, but it just pisses me off to NO END like i am about to go all the way back and get everyones overdrive and come back i went in without it but i feel i need it.
IMO FFX tops FFVII as the best game in the series (and I've played almost every FF game). The beautiful scenarios, the amazing OST, the cutscenes and the story merge so well that it becomes one of the most immersive experiences that I ever had in front of a console.
One of my all time fav games, and fantasy stories. Best childhood memories playing this game. Everything about this game just hit: music, game play, graphics, story, characters even the side quest sports game of under water soccer was GOLD.
So for the Yunalesca boss fight I found it to be more like an exam for the mechanics of the game. Definitely the biggest boss fight before the end game, and a hint at what kind of nightmarish mechanics await you in Omega dungeon and the monster arena. It was a cakewalk for me but I've also completed the game 10+ times. For me what made the game easier was making sure everyone in the party got a turn in every fight. At least every fight I knew was giving out good XP. You also start getting a feel for where the high AP fights are. Just grinding 30 mind to an hour in Bikanel on Zu's, Sandworms, and Cactuars will make Home, Evrae, and Bevelle a walk in the park. Also farming Highbridge before 2nd Seymour will pretty much make you Zanarkand-ready. You will just plow through everything including 3rd Seymour, and Yunalesca. Fun fact: on my current playthrough I literally fought 0 battles in Zanarkand before Yunalesca. I found no encounter bracer in Yojimbos cavern so after the Gagazet cave I stopped fighting until Yunalesca.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. FFX is the best in the series IMHO. Some mini games are rubbish like we see in most if not all "modern" FF games, but the story, the characters and the systems were really, really good. It actually had an endgame as well with the dark aeons and the monster arena.
this game helped me through a tough time. And it's the first final fantasy i played that had voice acting. It's not perfect by Any stretch of the imagination. But it's still 100% one of my favorite video games of all time.
i've not played all the final fantasy games myself but this is in the top 5, i think i like IV better as a story, would love an HD remake of it on modern consoles, though without the FF7 remake treatment where they totally change the story
As a young teenager I was lucky enough to be captivated by this iconic game back in 2002 on the PS2- played the remaster recently and it was still just as enjoyable. A truly timeless piece of art! Would love to see you do a retrospective review on FFXII, which IMO is also one of the best, Zodiac Age remaster showing also how well it's stood the test of time... although I feel a lot of people would not agree with me on this! would be interested to know what you think!
In the PS2 era you have no idea how many players grind for a 100% in this game and I was one of them and I even flexed my playtime that I broke the 99 hours of gameplay. Good ol days XD
About not balanced encounters... In the clip of the video where you fight it is clear that you didn't understand how that fight should have been dealt with. You were against two flyers and an armored enemy, and you kept using Auron to attack the flying ones, which can easily dodge slow attacks. Auron should be used with abilities to crack enemies armor, so its target was the armored knight. For the flying enemies, you should have instead used Wakka or Tidus, or Lulu with dark magic. That is why you feel like the fight, or other fights I presume, are unbalanced and takes forever. Cause of a lack of strategy comprehension. In reality almost all the encounters in the game are designed around your party development in that specific moment. I agree with all the rest of the video, it is a very deep and well made analisys. Good job. P.s: I'm one of the lucky people that played it on ps2 and had to do everything without speeding it up. What a ride. 🥲
@Chris M the Story is incredibly great as well IMO I couldnt recommend it enough, and don't even get me started on the Esper Hunting my God those are truly some incredible Boss fights
IMO, the 3rd best FF right after FFX and FFVII. Being a semi-open world is a huge plus and the story is great but I didn't like the final of the game (I don't like the final boss)
greatest game of all time. the story is the best. delivery is meh! but what they tell is fuckin DEEP, especially when you compare this story to our very own here on earth. war, religion with blind belief, famine, depression, rebellion. it covers it all. there is a reason i have bought this game on 7 different consoles, the same with RE4. its just great.
Always brings a tear to my eye . Lat time I played was 10 years ago, I just got it back for emulator and man I missed this masterpiece. What a game , storytelling , character development , soundtrack, ambience, and multiple other things . The cinematics for the time ware next level. I still remember playing this on days of from school or holidays .If they ever remake this or make a final fantasy x3 I'm here for it .
Literally everything this guy says is bad is literally just him clearly rushing through a game and BEING bad and underpowered because he's rushing. Classic.
Pretty much,he literally admitted he wanted to rush through it when talking about how many cutscenes there is in the game, that and he clearly didn’t pay attention to the story.
Auron refused death not to just aid tidus, he fulfilled the promise that he was asked by jecht and braska, especially to jecht coz he asked him to look after him for him and he died before doing it thus he refused death to keep his promise beyond death ,such deep and complex code of honor there
This game is in my top 3 for sure. I think you’re right about it being a product of its time. Playing this as a kid I had never played a game with the amount of detail, depth and emotion. The music, the graphics, the cutscenes, the story. It left a mark on me! I got all the secret aeons and characters unique weapons. Looking up guides on my dial up internet and keeping them in folders. I remember the monotony of traversing the large landscapes and getting pulled into a fight every 10 metres (the plains part) but you somehow have more patience and awe playing this in the early 2000’s where you don’t have hundreds of other games under your belt to compare it to.
yeah i remember honestly even back when this first came out sometimes i just didn't have time to level up or wander as much as needed, this game can be a bit tedious sometimes, but i still love it of course, it just takes a good chunk of time and energy

just found the channel and looking forward to all the videos i have to watch, 13 has its hate and understandable but its also one of my favourites, just takes so long to actually open up, stills looks more next gen than half the next gen games out now though
FFX and FF8,FF9,FF6 the best Final Fantasy's of all time. With First place for FFX.
When people aren't sent to the far plane they eventually become fiends. It was very clearly explained in the game.
...multiple times
I can't remember why auron was able to stay in the living realm without becoming a friend though. was it just a willpower thing?
@@rexusthevaliant6311 Pretty much, he made a promise and had his own unfinished business to take care of. There's a couple times you see him struggling to not be sent but you wouldn't notice unless you already knew about his condition.

I see everyone talking about how great the story/characters/battle system is in FF10 but I think what truly makes it great is the musical score. If To Zanarkand doesn't make you feel anything then you must be dead inside.
To me it's the gameplay and sphere grid FAR FAR above everything else.
To Zanarkand makes me want to play the game all over again. Then I remember the Fayth wake up and Tidus goes away. And I get super sad.
nobuo uetmatsu will legit go down in history as our mozart or bethoven
he is a once in a century genius and artist and deserves to be as honored as the best composers in history
yeah zanarkand is my favorite game song, next to runescape :P
A Fleeting Dream and The Truth Revealed are also gorgeous tracks
I own this game on PS2, PS3, PS4 , and a physical copy on my Xbox. This game is legendary. Best story telling I’ve seen.
Had it on PS2 though as a kid I leaned more towards Kingdom Hearts and FFXII. Over the years I've come to truly understand and appreciate FFX and I recently bought the remaster for PS4. Love it now more than ever! Truly a legendary game.

@@patrickcromwell7554 To be fair, in Japanese culture thank you probably fits better. In the western version, I love you works much better.
I've never played a FF game in my life but reading your review I'll try it.
FFX just gives me a vibe I can’t describe. The musical score, characters, combat. It’s literally a masterpiece.
The Oceania-esqe setting was so unique too

@@tjmethven2074 me too. !

I love that, in a way, the game foreshadows Tidus being an Aeon from the first couple of minutes. The only entities you're allowed to name freely in FFX are the Aeons, and he just so happens to be our first one. Cheeky :)
omg never saw it that way !
Very clever observation, never thought of it like that either!
he is not really that much of Aeon, those beasts are basically revered figures from the past who worked along side yunalesca to end Yu Yevon's fanatical designs to crush all of spira and force everyone to embrace an eternal cycle of suffering until only his dream reality remains.
the Zanarkand Tidus comes from is essentially that dream reality and everything within it is just fabricated hopes and dreams of those who became Fayth under Yu Yevon's cult but some of these Fayth grew tired of dreaming and wanted to rest in peace with those they lost to war in the Farplane and so they began to plot Yu Yevon's demise by bringing their ideal "champion" into the real world to destroy Sin and end their miserable dreary dreamscape.
I've heard about this from somewhere and it makes sense.
This just blew my mind
@@beurtalvarez and you can exactly do that, you even can beat the game without using the sphere grid at all
One of the greatest games of all time. There is no debate to be had on this.
It is the best game of all time period
This game came to me at a very formative time in my life when I was experiencing some difficult times with my own relationship with my father. No game will top the impact this one had on me.
I hate linear titles but my god if you do a linear story this is the blueprint
Gotcha, explaining him more like a "summon" has it click better for me.

Ff10 arguably has one of the best stories in the entire catalog of jrpgs.
Ff6, Ff7 ,8 or 9? .....

10 > 9 > 7 > 6 > 8 when it comes to story, imo. The older I get, the better 10 has aged, honestly. If you include graphics, sound, and gameplay, then 7 and 10 both drop a slot. 9 is still my overall favorite FF.

25:30 This is either untrue or you just weren't paying attention. most youtubers rush through games. Last week, I noticed a TH-camr who claimed to be "the biggest FF7 fan" (won't mention his name) to not even know basic things that even I get, and I'm not even THAT deep into the games' lores.
Yeah, most of the negative comments seemed related to having to use brain power and face complexity.
The biggest frustrations we had were actually with chocobo racing and lightning dodging.
chocobo racing and lightning doging were the only two things that completely eluded me too haha
6:29 1 party member must have weapon buff Auto-life equipped. Then 1st action is you Raise someone with a Phoenix down, and mass heal whoever is standing. Or raise someone and swap them with a strong character after doing the careful equipment management step.
He clearly sucked at this game and therefore complained about it.
I've played all of the FFs excluding FF 1-5, and FFX is my favorite. The music, story, gameplay are all so good.
The ending haunted me as a child. One of the few games that actually made me cry.
It's always fascinating to me when people whine about parts of a game being "difficult" that I did when I was a single-digit age without issue
For real. I don't remember this game being too difficult. Maybe I just overleveled or something
For me its kinda hard tho cuz i can't read English that day..
Many FF fans dont play other turn-based games, thus they dont really knw whats considered as a difficult game

I just got chills when you opened the case and showed the booklet. So many memories of playing this game.
This deserves a replay with an updated review my dude!
25:53 Your whole party getting wiped out by Mega Death when you fight Yunalesca the first time is practically a rite of passage for first time players.
7:05 there was always an option to set the Aeon animations to "Short", even in the PS2 version
The ending alone is enough for me to recommend the game.
Also the "refusing to die"-state could be explained better
4) Did you suggest the game is too hard? Imho it's one of the easiest. Maybe you were rushing too much? Most enemies have a designated party member for fighting it. Those giants can be armor broken if i remember correctly
5) About that cutscene movie part... that is really unfortunate.
I love the opinions on the games you haven’t played yet. Makes the content feel so fresh.
X is a masterpiece. Got me addicted to the FF franchise.
Love the retro content you’ve been putting out recently. I have to disagree on the battle system critiques though, I’ve always rated it as top tier. My only disappointment is the move away from turn based in later entries.
I absolutely love FFX. I have played it through a few times. I'd put it as my top 3 favorite games of all time.
Have you ever played The Legend of Dragoon back from the ol' PS1 transitioning to PS2 days? I'd love to hear your thoughts on that game whether it's something you played back in the day, picked up years later, or will be going through a first attempt. There's a huge niche fanbase behind it still to this day
Love that game!!!
Best PS1 rpg ever!
It's a laughably bad story
This combat is better than ATB FF imo. But still gets outshined by Trails games (to be fair, those came out later)
agree, the random encounters are the only super annoying thing about this game
My condolances. It's cool if you had fun, and it if it made you play better FF games afterwards.
Dream Zanarkand is the place where all of the Aeon's faith rest until calling for action.
cool puzzle piece bro
you just blew my mind
Can you name most characters in some FF titles though?
I wish I could play this for the 1st time again!
10 is a timeless masterpiece
Remember getting a Playstation magazine back then with a demo of Final Fantasy X. Loved the demo, but never actually played the full game. But will have to at some point
I still think this game has the best turn based combat system out of any jrpg.
So I think it's impossible to access, especially with a invincible guardian killing anyone who goes near it.
such a fan of this channel!!
Ended up being my all time favorite battle system would be really cool if they implement some kind of party switching like this into ff7R 2
If you’re itching for more, The Lord of The Rings: the third age straight ripped this battle system!
@@robdiquattro5590 I absolutely love The Third Age.
These two games were such a massive part of my childhood.
There's also Lost Odyssey. It uses the same battle system as well.
@@SeanIsCrazy Are you thinking of a different game? Lost odyssey is wonderful, but I remember it being a traditional turn based with a timed ring attack, not conditional with a weighted move-set
This, is the best final Fantasy game in my opinion... I think its amazing. Great story. My favorite, of all time in FF.
It’s been many years, but I’m pretty sure that version of semore he heals himself so if you cast zombie on him every time he heals he takes damage. It turns a really hard boss to super easy. I think it called zombie anyway.
I’m jealous that you get to experience this for the first time now. This was what being 12 was about when I was a kid! Favorite game of all time!!
One of my top 5 games ever. I LOVE it
I played X for the first time a couple months ago and I was surprised how much I loved it.
Eventually she completely finished the sphere grid and would smack people for 99999 with her staff it was great
11:55 the trials were awful i agree ... i also agree the leveling up system takes way to long
a way to remedy that is, on a day off, i would sit there for 5 MINs upgrading everything. not doing it during the game play
I wish I could play it for the first time again.. such a iconic game
I have never played any ff games do you recommend ffx as my first game.
The Tidus laugh at 25:55 killed me. Well done sir. Subscribing…
Yeah, I played FFX way back in high school.
Think I only got to the Mt. Seymour fight too before a memory card corruption. 😢
The amount of dark eons available makes it one of the best in the franchise for me :)
Dark Yojimbo farming was just fantastic xD
I’ve replayed this game literally dozens of time and love it every time.
I played this game when it came out when I was 17 years old. Legendary. Masterpiece.
lol love the commentary. ya the yunalesca fight made me put it down for the last month. i grinded there so fast, but it just pisses me off to NO END like i am about to go all the way back and get everyones overdrive and come back i went in without it but i feel i need it.
Rikku is "faking as an Al'Bhed"? What do you mean? She is an Al'Bhed. She's not faking anything.
Strange. I started playing FFX a few days ago for the First time. Loving it so far! I've just got to the fight against Maester Seymour.
You're probably not playing on a bugged PC copy on 4x speed. I imagine that colors the entire experience.
@@jaydubayu59 Yeah, I'm playing the one on Xbox Gamepass but definitely going to pick up a physical copy for the PS4 to add to the collection. 😋
Stick with it, it only gets better!
Greatest game ever made… enjoy it. take your time.
ahem...just remember to keep aeon overdrives in your back pocket...ahem....
We gotta get a video on Final Fantasy XII that one is personally my favorite Final Fantasy ever, the Story is very Dark and just so great IMO
I never played that game. Everyone says it’s good. I am gonna look into playing it.
Lol. Turns out you have a lot more in common with Wakka than just his hair color.
greatest game of all time. the story is the best. delivery is meh! but what they tell is fuckin DEEP, especially when you compare this story to our very own here on earth. war, religion with blind belief, famine, depression, rebellion. it covers it all. there is a reason i have bought this game on 7 different consoles, the same with RE4. its just great.
Auron refused death not to just aid tidus, he fulfilled the promise that he was asked by jecht and braska, especially to jecht coz he asked him to look after him for him and he died before doing it thus he refused death to keep his promise beyond death ,such deep and complex code of honor there
Such a bad ass
"Listen to my TH-cam video...
...this, may be your first recommendation"
