As a former Mitsubishi Motors Australia LTD Employee I am always humble that young people like yourself find these cars exciting after all those years they were produced. Those were exciting times for our company under the leadership of a new CEO Tom Phillips who unfortunately passed away at the start of this month these cars were build with passion and pride in mind with a good old lets give it a red hot go and show Holden and Ford what we could do....I still have my Ralliart Magna after all these years only done 70,000klms and even though I don't drive it much these days it still is a vehicle that is close to my heart and reminds me of a time in Australian Manufacturing History that was exciting and fun unfortunatley now though all this is long gone and it in the revison mirror...

Bang on Johnny, you've gotta drive one to understand it. Everything from the shift feel, to the handling, to the noise it makes, and that wild styling. You can use every kW of it on the street and it's just FUN - and that's something you wouldn't expect from a Magna.

Holden had released the 300kw HSV GTS VT in 1999 with the 5.7L V8.
But the problem with the car is that it weighed 1740kg.
So even though it was pretty quick in a straight line.
It's handling was not nearly as good as the Ralliart Magna's, since the Ralliart Magna undercutted it's weight by 270kg.
To rub salt into wounds for Holden, 30 Ralliart Magna's came with Superchargers that pushed power to 250kw & the Ralliart Magna won fastest car in it's class at the Australian Motorkhana.
Plus if you equip the Ralliart Magna with a flat tyre repair kit like the HSV was using, well it would mean that the Ralliart Magna was 300kg lighter than the HSV.

    Great review Ross!
I’ve got a Wheels magazine with The Ralliart on the front cover where they tested the Ralliart Magna against the Commodore XU6 HSV, and the Tickford Falcon XR6 when they were new, the Magna wiped the floor with them.
They said the Magna was a cut above both of them, especially in terms of refinement, handling comfort, performance and road feel.
And it’s amazing to think Mitsubishi Australia got the same 180kw out of an na 3.5 that HSV’s managed from their supercharged 3.8

The reason the car was so fast & good was because it was alot lighter than the competition.
Most of it's RWD competition were over 1600kg.
The Ralliart Magna was 1470kg, 1430kg with a flat tyre repair kit like it's competition were using.
But 30 of them were Supercharged, which means that they could have 250kw.
But they were the fastest car in their class around the Australian Motorkhana, so they handled really well.
It also had a very low aerodynamic co-efficiency of 0.28.

I think 510 Ralliarts were built mostly in 2002 with roughly 1 of 4 cars manual, 5 colours Red, sable black pearl, white and pewter silver but 2 autos with sunroofs were wasp yellow. About 497 were numbered. There was build number 1 to 498 and 12 unnumbered cars built in 2001. The first Ralliart was a white manual built on October 10, 2001. The last one a red auto (build no 496) was built on 30 September 2002. My TJ Sports reaches 100km/h in just under 8 seconds in drive with just me alone inside the car (17x7 Alloy wheels, 235 tyres).

The ones that were built in 2001, I think there was at least 5 of them.
      Ex-Show car's or pre-production examples.
      Possibly some unnumbered ones too.
But 5 of these came with different camshafts & compression ratio.
They boosted power to 210kw from 180kw.
There was concerns about them not meeting emission regulations, but they were still sold as such by Misubishi.
I think that Autospeed previewed one & did a drag race against a Subaru WRX STI.
They claimed that the Ralliart Magna killed the STI despite the Ralliart Magna being weight disadvantaged by the presence of another passenger.
But think they were 13sec car's based on what these owner's have put on record.

Ok so i love this amazing .
I have had 06 Wrx sti 02 Evo 7 and 1000s of other csrs and sporty sedans and i currently own the last of the Magna VR-X series 2 and i love it so much mine has done quite a bit of driving but still is as good as new . Mine is auto but i did have a CJ VR-X in manual earlier on in my car career and it was amazing . But i feel for everyday driving i much prefer this auto as it is very good and smart . Mitsubishi were really amazing in the late 90s till about 2010 when the evo X rolled off the production line and even that was a bit of a flop after owning one . The 7 i had i much prefer . I have even had a ralliart colt that i use to use as a daily and track when bored . And it never broke ! Great products make me proud to be Australia with this magna ❤️

Yes, the Cordia was very fast in a straight line at the time.
Some had alot more power than other's too, plus their was the Cop car's.
But the true performance gun back then was the Starion.
The Starion won many awards & achieved many notable racing win's.
In standard trim, it offered a significant portion of the Cordia's straight line go.
But it made up for not being as quick by being very quick in the corner's.

Actually I'm not sure if you recall them but do you remember the Mitsubishi Sigma Turbo's?
They were incredibly fast when they appeared.
It was Australia's first RWD turbocharged car.
      It had 116kw & 235nm weighing 1197kg.
It allowed the car to go from 0-60mph in 7sec flat & cover the 1/4 mile in 15.5sec.
That compares with the Mitsubishi Starion.
      Which had 125kw & 245nm weighing 1260kg.
The Widebody JDM Starions were a bit quicker as they got 150kw & 280nm with the superior styling ques, but weight increased due to the body kit to 1320kg.
      The Cordia Turbo had 110kw & 210nm weighing 970kg.
The Sigma Turbo's got overshadowed by the Cordia & Starion turbo's due to them having superior styling.
But the Sigma Turbo's set the pace for them I think.
I will still grab the Widebody Starion myself, love the styling & racing heritage.
