The Magna may not be as popular or as fast as your turbo Falcon, but somehow I still find the Ralliart Magna more interesting!
they are faster then a na ford and holden :)
Absolutely keep why own something more common when you can have a rare piece of Australian history
These cars need more representation
Every man and his dogs owns commodores and falcons and does reviews on them I get more positive comments and attention in my VRX Magna AWD then I did in my FG xr6 turbo
Go against the grain and be proud of what you own 🙏🙏
Agree, happy with my 380.😅
Because a "common vehicle" like a old Kingswood or Premier, restored can see it's value go up by thousands every month or two.
@@jamesaustralian9829 if all you have are $ signs on your eyes, you're missing the point. Also shows how stupid the masses are.
In some cases, common in both senses 🙄.
AWD is worth collecting.
I reckon keep it, you WILL bond with it over time.
Especially if you get a nice trouble free period with it, which you’re definitely due for
There were no events like that when we lived in Ipswich when we were there. But that was 20 years ago.
Keep the Magna for the time being and enjoy being a little different for a while.
Gary isn’t cursed. Just a run of misfortune. All will be ok from here…… I hope.
Yeah you can't blame poor Gary because someone somehow managed to rear end him in a drive-through! Seriously I've done some dumb things behind the wheel in my time - but how do you manage to rear end someone in a drive through? That's about the time you should be giving up driving IMO. I hope they at least had insurance.
Bloke at work rocked up to work in a neat mid 80s Mitsubishi Colt. You’ll never see them at a show but it’s great that there is one out there! I see the odd well kept Magna about so there is a following!
You must keep the Ralliart. Timing belt and water pump will cost over $1K though. If you sell it, you risk losing it forever because there is a good chance it will be trashed. If it was me I'd look after it with passion.
Absolutely perfect timing I go everytime and theres never usually another magna. This time i spotted two other ralliarts. Wish i knew you were pulling into coles. I would have parked up too
name checks out
Hey, thanks for having my car in the video mate Cheers.
Loved the bootcam. Looks awesome.
Keep it! Magna's have become more popular than ever.
My personal opinion is the Magna is a cool car and I don’t see it as unpopular I see it as unique, but if you choose to let it go at least enjoy it for a little while
It's called being ahead of the game Sean. You're on the right track.
Sean, we have a monthly event on the Central Coast NSW called Surf Sand and Cars at Lakes Beach. You can bring whatever classic car you own regardless of what state it's in. We get some odd cars every month but what most don't realise is how much goes into them & the process of building a car. I show off both my utes. I get the young P platers drooling over my finished blue one & they got the shits to find it's not a V8 but when they see my white V8 one they all walk past it without blinking an eye. Not long ago a bloke brought in an '81 Nissan Bluebird GL sedan red with light tan interior. It was in pretty good condition, no rust, just very well kept. He had people walking past his Bluebird, ignoring it until I rocked up & started chatting to him. His dad had the exact same spec & colour of this car when he was growing up & that's why he bought it, which is a very good reason why to own a classic. My dad owned 3 Bluebirds back in the day. Most people at car events expect everything to be highly modified with a V8 producing 1000bhp but they don't give a crap at the time & money that's been put in it. At the end of the day Sean, it's your Ralliart & believe me you've done more than most who own them. Yeah it's a pisser when someone damages it, but make the buggers pay for it!
That Ipswich event looked awesome & I hope they have more & hopefully more businesses back it. Your camera work was spot on. If you're going to sell your Ralliart, that's up to you & if you're going to buy another car, my suggestion is that you go through various car groups so you can plan to find parts/trim at reasonable prices when building it. Maybe Century Batteries might sponsor the event, who knows? Talk to organisers if you can.
What a helpful and insightful post.
Sounds like Aussie rev heads are largely hive minded.
Yeah guarantee everyone there gets defected
Love magna's. If I had the cash, I would buy yours tomorrow.
Fark mate - you can't catch a break!!! But I think you have rescued it and done the hard yards - the truth of auto enthusiast TH-cam is you have to keep turning over projects... I am sure there is someone on here who will appreciate your effort and keep it going. I see an EL/F XR8 in your future!!!
Good to see how far you come with the. Magna.
The Vt Calais is still going good.
Love your content.
That was one car that was right for Sean to move on. The Magna is a difficult one.
The 360 camera took some beautiful videos. Love the perspective it gives the viewer
Nice photography
Those time lapse shots were great and showed normal people going about doing/following something they love and care about.
Definitely keep the car, I barely even see Magnas anymore where I live. I think I’ve seen a Ralliart once. Idk if there will ever be much demand but you would think it would increase in value
Yes XF's are cool! Ive always wanted a Fairmont ghia wagon!
XD XE and XFs are in for sure where they were the archetypal unwanted $200 car before.
I've got a xe wagon with a 393 c4 9inch the best part is the running gear the rest is rubbish lol
Super wholesome thanks for sharing, keep the car - no one is going to look after it and preserve it's memory better than you.
Your car is as unique as a EF Xr6 or a VL Calais Turbo. You have made it yours enjoy its uniqueness.
It's a good looking shape and more advanced tech.
If you're already asking the question keep or sell now its pretty much a sell as the question itself merely suggests a lack of commitment...Get some decent use of it though and don't short change yourself...the right buyer/owner will come along in good time.
I was up in QLD recently for my brothers bday and stayed in Ipswich, my niece told me to stay off the streets at night cos you're likely to get stabbed or mugged, or both.. happy to watch from a distance
At an event like this you're fine because there's thousands of people around. On a Tuesday night with nobody about you'd probably be looking over your shoulder.
You kidding, can't go any where in Oz without having a FEAR factor as per the Media and Goverment, Wakeup, or you still wearing a mask!!
Thanks for showing my car mate ❤ and yes xf’s are cool but I may be a bit biased 😂😂😂
Hey Sean, great to see the magna out, something different.
I was there last Sat, and was an awesome night. Also saw you and the Magna cruise past along the corner of Brisbane and Ellenborough St, hopefully meet you someday.
Also recognised a workmate's car in the Coles carpark too.
Mate, After many years of putting your followers first, and helping the motoring community more than you'll ever know.......I'd like to offer you some advice.
DO WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT! Define the word "collectable". Something is only worth what others are willing to pay. My SS for example, i will never see the money back I spent on it during covid. But I'll hang onto it because I see not the burden it is on me and the space in my garage, but the blood, sweat and tears I threw at it. I built it. I own it. I love it. I know you'll do what's right mate. Thanks for giving us your time and knowledge 👍👍
It sure does sound nice!
I'm pissed I didn't know about this event, looks like a good night out
I wish I could have gone myself, and the last one I went too with my youngest son was just as good as this one
Lets just say i got the update from my youngest son while he was there this time
Gary, has character. Character goes a long way.
I still beleive in you Gary!
Hi Sean, I think you've done a great job on the car especially if you take into consideration all the hurdles thrown at you. There's every chance it owes it's life to you as the condition it was in may have thrown a lot of buyers off leaving it to rot under a tree in one of the hoods. But in saying that i'm guessing you don't love-love it so the day it returns from paint correction i would be looking at moving it on. Would hate for something to happen to it that needed more $$ thrown into it. It could possibly pull a lot more coin if sold on a platform that's highly visible to Melbourne, Sydney markets. I wish you all the best with it mate, Adam....(BF RTV Ute, Blackstone).
Magnas are unique and rare (comparatively speaking to a ford or Holden)…Keep the Magna and get a blower out on it!😍
Such an amazing car event! Would be nice if we had something like that here in SA!
By the way, I've got an XE and I wouldn't say they're cool, not just yet.
Great Video Sean!
I like the Magna because they are so under rated. I used to think they were garbage until a mate of mine owned a manual one, think it was a 3.6. It blew me away with how fun it was, given I had no idea it was faster then the comparable Falcon or Commodore
I read a Wheels magazine mailbag comment saying they are garbage that won't last much beyond 100K.
I wonder what he thinks now?
They came in the little known and later dropped 2.4l four, 3.0 and 3.5 V6s. The 2.4 was a good engine I heard. It replaced the ageing and inefficient 2.6 injected Astron.
@@jamesfrench7299 the 2.6's were a good stick but required ALOT of maintenance especially with the water pump being driven by the camshaft by a belt off the back of the of the cylinder head plus the timing chain rattle they suffered like every other Astron engine ever made
the 2.4's were the timing belt driven 4G64 SOHC 16 valve engine which was a great engine and made decent power, and if maintained correctly lasted the distance but again as with any Mitsubishi product, IF maintained too the letter of were really a great piece of equipment and is still being made under licence from China for use in a lot of different applications
the 3 and 3.5 V6's 6G72 and 6G74 is where Mitsubishi really started making a name for their selves in a great way in the Magna's and even though they shared a fair few similarities the Pajero's and Challengers (so many iterations of that engine with SOHC and DOHC, turbocharged and the likes)
It's such a shame that Mitsubishi is not a former shadow of itself and don't produce something like the Magna/Galant or Mirage/Lancer like they did, and they are doing cross platform work with Renault and Nissan to save money
Coming from North Brisbane we get the impression of Ipswich, like that Lion King meme, "the sun doesn't shine there". But it looks quite alright there now!
That's funny cause it's true, and i live here. It's still super dank here.
probably my favourite car on the internet
Need a bigger carpark soon! Great to see, and hope to get involved soon!
looks like it was an awesome time! not sure why but this video brought a big smile to my face.
There was definitely a small following for many years, a fairly active Mitsubishi Magna club in the 2010 era. I went from Perth to Adelaide for the National "MMX" meet in 2011 with my TL VR-X Manual with Quaife LSD (on account of munching the stock one at the drag strip :-). Was a great time!
There's quite a few Facebook groups you can join that still have some active posters.
Love Gary, he's come up beautifully...and may have to take my car down to Ipswich one night...I'm only in Chapel Hill, Brissie so relatively near and I had no idea that scene was over there. Looks like a fun way to spend an evening and see some cool cars.
I always love your videos mate the time and effort you put into them is amazing you deserve so many more followers
Keep it I actually quite like it. On an another note watched your Century battery videos on Facebook. Took my car to Supercheap to get my battery tested and the test came back with a replace battery . So I bought a Century Battery
It's been an interesting saga but my vote is flog it. I'd like to see you start on a new project on something interesting. May the car stars start to align better for you Sean. BTW:
- top quality camera work on your vids, and it's nice to see an Aussie car TH-camr making a go of it - doesn't seem to be many.
- I'm not entirely sure that they don't care what you drive - I'm tippin' if you turned up in a Tesla, you'd get the cold shoulder.
Hope to see you there, mate.
Magnas are really cool.
If you have the space and can afford to keep it, just keep it in the collection.
What a cool and interesting car.
XF, a big yes for me. Next time I am down Brisbane way, I'm going to take my F6 here for a drive. Looks like a heap of fun.
I laughed out loud at the intro - it's so absurd the run of misfortune Gary has had. Truly hope it's smooth sailing from here on in and glad to see you enjoying the car. Speaking of cult following, I think you've single-handedly created a small cult following for the RAs, they've about doubled in price over the course of your resto journey. The only other place in Australia where Magnas are loved and recognised is SA where they were born. Enjoying the videos!!
Rear ended, that sucks. That car may be bad luck.
That was cool.
Definately keep it. Getting rarer by the day. Underated. You've done the hard yards already. Keep it mint and it'll reward you. I so regret even selling a TJ VRX 6 years ago.
Shaun,
Invest in a XR8, any series that suits your budget, good solid cars and fun to drive, especially in a manual. The AU’s are becoming desirable. Luv your channel.
When new a retiree neighbour of mine predicted the then polarising AU would become collectable because of it's radical design. Also helps they are solid.
Great night
Ipswich lappers reminds me of the night street scene outside Flynn's in Tron from 1982 where it's bustling and alive which is missing a lot these days.
Regards the Magna bingle, be thankful it hit that lump of plastic instead of a panel. I'm sure your can repair it yourself although the ones who hit it should be paying you.
Cool to see Ippy.
That was my white xf on the side of the rd
Hey Sean, It was nice to meet you and talk about our cars
Make sure you bring Gary back out after he gets buffed.
I used to vocally hate XF's and VN's too come to think of it. Now i love them 😅
That's my experience with the HK - HG Holden, a couple of which I spotted including the fascinating Brougham.
sheesh i need to get out there for the next one, especially if gary the magna is going to be making an appearance
This car will look insane once some nice recaro/sports seat go in. Finish the pop off. This model has really grown on me I’ve even gone window shopping on Carsales for one and I’m a Holden v8 man 😂😂😂
What a turn out, so many cool cars.
I own the KJ GTV Verada and to be honest it's unique unlike Fords Holden's and Valiant's and it turns heads everywhere it goes at a fraction of the price to own and run any of the above, it's definitely a keeper as it's original and immaculate. You've obviously had a bad run but that's because of individuals not the car it seems. Good luck Sean. BTW I've owned it since 03.
I was also there with one of my cars, but must have missed you. I would have stopped by and said hello and check out the magna.
Coming from someone who's owned 12 Magnas over the years I really feel like you should give it some more time. Maybe take it on a road trip so you can bond with it. I've always loved Magnas, they're cheap, reliable (well for me at least) and punch well above their weight. The manual trans really makes them unique and fun too.
the Magna did everything correct except for one thing, it was "Wrong wheel drive" even though those damn things are quick and many Falcons and Commodores have fallen prey to a Magna the fact that it's FWD really stopped it from being an Aussie icon, anyway i reckon sell it, 25k you should get that with it being restored to it's former glory, that way you can top up the ol bank balance and fund the next build, say an AU XR8 with a 351 swap? thats what i want to do but i dont have the funds or a place to do it (amongst other issues)
Car nuts, (myself included) used to lap Ipswich every Friday and Saturday night 30 odd years ago
Thanks Sean, looks like a great night out and surprizingly diverse selection of cars (was that a Hilman Avenger you were following at one stage?) - and to answer your question...yes, even XF Falcons (and Magna's) are now cool, actually, pretty much anything well looked after and pre 2000 can probably be considered cool (at least by someone). Cheers!
Hopefully Gary can break the curse soon enough. My first car was cursed. Id been crashed into, so many near misses and it sent my brother into a ditch due to its carb stuck wide open throttle, it got banished to live in a field for the last 10 years but hope to resurrect it one day.
Mate, I love XF Falcons. I learned to drive in a 1987 Blue one and I loved that car. My goal would have been to get one and Barra swap it and have the ultimate cruiser.
Had an XF S pack ute in the 90's. Had the digital instrument gauges too. Lowered with a set of dragways. Loved that car. An XG XR6 would be nicer though. I was always jealous of the headlights.
Came here thinking Ipswich laps was gonna be a track day haha
I’m hurt, you want to sell Gary! After all you been through together. Once Gary is gone you will miss him!
Could be feeling the way you are somewhat, because of all the business you've had to go through to get it to where it is now. Can give it a bit more time, see if you warm up to it more, i'd say don't let it go just yet, you might change your opinion on it. Sure is a nice one, you don't see many of those ralliart ones around & is a more unique car, than all the more common things you see.
You've got that factor going for it, and as you've said you do like it, but you should give it a bit of time after the work is done. See how that goes for you. It's something, as mentioned you don't see a lot, and is good to see people appreciate the magnas/veradas, always nice to be seeing them out & about.
Well shot 👍🏻
Sounds like something I'm going to have to sort myself out and get to.
But I have just had a look and the next one on is when I have a trivia night on at my kid's school.
I would happily blow off the trivia night except that Patience Hodgson is our MC.
I think the Ralliart Magna is awesome. Give it 10 years and you will not see any on the road, except for those people willing to look after them. Something different to the extremely common Falcon or Commodore you see every time you turn your head.
And just a better car for sure.👍🏻
bro you got the whole rebuild experience, someone hitting my car after a whole rebuild would be my worry
Also to add magnas yea okay have their issues time to time but they are still apart of Australian history with them being made here it all comes down to end of the day if you don’t feel a connection with it you have the choice of selling it or keeping it but as you have done so much work to the beautiful car it be a thing to keep for a future generation to learn to drive in and experience a car that was not desirable at best but mostly and a very important part of automotive history for Mitsubishi and Australia
If wish have a look at my car shoot me a message and I’ll happily get in contact with you mate
Good work on the car hope see more content of it very soon
epic mate my Dad (his name is Gary!) gave me his 2003 TJ LE same colour as yours keep it - friggin awesome !Ill send you a pic if you want - been doing a lot of maintence too but they are great
Mate. I haven’t been to a laps night for ages. Used to do the Dandenong (VIC) laps back in the day. All fun and games until the Rozzers would show up with canaries!
I suggested the Ralliart Magna, but fark you've had a bad run with 'Gary'. Hard luck.
I suppose this would be the car you'd move on to start a next project, so as much as a shame as it would be to see it go, it would put your channel in a stalemate if you had nothing else going.
Maybe a track day and a drag night before you finish up with it would be fitting. Hey, see if you can get your hands on a VX XU6 and a AU XR6 VCT and do a 3-way comparison.
Project cars come and go but, especially on TH-cam.
Your Magna, all be it possibly cursed, is still a beautiful and very much unappreciated car. That being said, after you have had your time and experience with it and decided to sell, knowing you're a bit of a ford bloke, definitely consider an older gen falcon, possibly an X series or early E series. Or go full crazy and get an old X series panel van, they are wicked. Love the work mate, keep it up
Enjoyed that thanks
Used to cruise around there in the 70s when alot of those old cars were new
XF Fairmont Ghia full LUX pack Number 1. Keep the Magna ralliart just get wash it with Holy Water lol. Love the channel keep up the great work.
If you're not feeling it then let someone else, who wants it, have it - life is too short for looking after cars you aren't attached to.
And who cares if they're popular - the more oddball / unique the better.
I would say keep it for now. Saying Falcons and Commodores are more Aussies is not really true, the other cars have lots of non-Aussie DNA, especially the Holden. The Magna is significantly different from the Japanese Diamante. I like unusual cars, something different is cool and interesting to me.
I like that you have the Magna so I don’t need to.
Mate I’ve always been in to valiants even when they weren’t cool and always loved the underdog, nothing wrong with a Magna and I’ve had a few and now have a love of the old school Mitsubishi.
Never be a sheep and follow what everyone else does
I absolutely love the magna.
Selling it and getting some old school muscle would be awesome. Like an early fairlane!
Keep it, i had an 01 verada which i manual swapped, i regret selling it still
Keep the Magna , you went through a lot to get it where it is. Looks great.
Gary. Gary?…haha, Gary!
I'm a "Ford guy" myself but as I get older, I am more and more interested in just anything Aussie made. It's a shame the Magna is giving you a bad run because you've done a good job of rescuing it.
XF's are cool, I guess these days it's because of the rarity. Heaps of XD and even XE around comparatively but I like the XF better. Granted we had one for 17 years so I might be biased.
I haven't lived in Ipswich for 20+ years. I didnt know lappers were still a thing.
Keep it you spent good money on it use it while you can its a cool car the Magana
Ha! Saw you rolling with all the E85 tough streeters.
Keep getting rare now
