Mr. Milnes gave a recital at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri, back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. It was a warm evening, and the theatre was not air conditioned. He warmed up with his window open while the audience sat on the lawn listening to that magnificent voice. He was amazing.

I adore his voice. The 1976 Met production of I Puritani with Sutherland, Pavarotti, Morris and Milnes is one of my favorite casts; selections are on TH-cam.

I saw him in the early 70's. Very intense and exciting. Then as if to cool us down, he sang Oh Shanandoah in a very soft, gentle voice.

I thought it is about the art, not about olympic records 🤦‍♀️ i am sorry for people who are focused on such unimportant elements. There was so much more to point at - you are touched by G. If you were a woman, I would understand, otherwise - 🙄

@@a.n.i.c.k.a lmao if you were a guy you'd realize how hard this is, especially TWICE. This is where he really shows off how good his technique is. TBH i'm just messing w the "guy" part of the comment. If you knew anything about singing you would recognize this

I wish he did the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. He would’ve been so amazing

That's a really interesting comment. I personally can think of two musical roles he would have been great in: Frank Butler in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and Miles Gloriosus in A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM. I could definitely "hear" him singing the Phantom's music, too.

@@detectivefiction3701 Imagine his voice with the Phantom's score, especially Music of the Night! How he wasn't casted, is beyond me

IMHO Milnes, Chaliapin and Tibbett are very suitable for Phantom.
