I can't thank you enough! I was literally on the verge of tears lol. To think the fix was as simple as locking the friggen blade. Feeling a mix of emotions right now. Happy that I can finally start making decals, and pissed that I made such a simple mistake lol. Thank you thank you thank you again!
I never comment on anything, but I HAVE to say... you are a LIFESAVER. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I have a Portrait and even though my gap was tiny, it was enough to destroy everything it touched. Thank you thank you thank you! I can't believe I didn't notice this myself!
I use these settings for autoblade and vinyl + cutting mat. (My machine is Cameo 3) Depth 2, Speed 1 (speed for vinyl should always be 1, specially when doing intricate designs), and Strength/Pressure 15. So 2, 1, 15. When trying different materials always start with lowest number and rise it by 1 until you get desired cut. Sometimes the pressure (last setting) is also important to do a good cut together with a low number on the autoblade. You'll get the feel of it once you test different thick materials and then you can calculate the settings by the thickness/previous experience. Cameo is an awesome machine I love it!
I know you keep hearing this, but THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! I've had my Cameo 3 for 2.5 years and have been having this problem, right out the start gate. My blade was sitting exactly like your first example. It looked "in" all the way to me! After 2 years of disappointment, I'm so very excited to use this cutter. I've been designing things that I had no knowledge of how to cut. I'm definitely having a yahoo moment because of you.
Thank you so much! I was so frustrated! Mine was not cutting deep enough. I tried a new blade, a new mat, deeper settings and finally updating my firmware is what did it. Thank you!
What a life saver you are. After trying several times and not being able to even cut thru copy paper I turned to you(I have been watching you since I ordered my Portrait 2) Yep, my blade was not seated all the way down! Thank you so much🙏🏻👍
Even though some of my cuts were fine and worked as expected, my BLADE WAS NOT IN THERE CORRECTLY!!!! THANK YOU!!! Looking forward to more consistent cuts!
I was wondering why I kept having to readjust my cut settings all the time! It was driving me mental. You're a lifesaver, I had no idea. Thanks!! After reading through the comment section, I see you were right about us, typical starter problem. Hahaha. From the bottom of my sanity, Thank you!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, just when I thought I was gonna go crazy, yep I'm your typical newbie, must've winged it on the first go and then bam wouldn't cut properly. Thanks again great tutorial, I have my sanity back.
Girl I am literally going to cry I have watched video after video and nothing was helping and I was so upset I watched ur video and you taught me so much I am so great full
I just have to tell you that you are a godsend! You speak my language which makes taking something so technical and making it actually work doable!! Thanks!
Hi, we are now in 2020 and I want to thank you from deep of my heart! I was struggling with my cameo4 until I found your video. Thank you so so so much! I can't believe I fix it.
Thank you so so much, I had no idea what the hell was going on with my cameo cutter, i was actually about to take it back to the manufacturer to get it checked. You are awesome, keep sharing these videos as it serious helps a lot of people...
Thank you sooooooo much for this video. I was about to have a fit with this silhouette cameo 3 cutting too deep. Your video is the first out of I don't know how many I have watched that actually did the trick. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
OMG, thank you so much!!! I just upgraded from the 2 to the 3 and I was ready to throw this thing away. You are the best. That fixed the problem it was not cutting my HTV vinyl at all. Now it cuts perfectly.
Thank you so much for explaining this. My auto blade cut right through my mat. I have been using Silhouette machines for ten years and never seen this issue before. I figured it was my fault, but didn't know what it was. My auto blade was tightly put in though so I hope that it will adjust right now when I removed it and put it back in. If this doesn't help I just have to use my old cut blade with my old Cameo. Have to get a new mat too as it was sliced through the middle and I taped it with some duct tape from the back so it doesn't bend. I love my Cameo 3 anyway, cause it's pink :)
Was on my Silhouette Cameo 3 for hours i could not get it to cut all the way through, then it was cutting the vinyl into pieces. Then it quit cutting at all. I will try again in the morning. Thanks for sharing.
Hi I'm hoping you can help me please, I have a Cameo 3 and the left side of where the blade goes in is cracked. I was working on a couple small projects when it popped up. so I let the cameo finish the job it was cutting and removed the blade house and saw it, :( is this part replaceable and what is the proper name for it. or is there a video to show how to fix it, please I'm desperate, Thank you
Tell me again what blade you used for the tiny stuff. And how can I get another one of those handy gadgets for taking the end of the auto blade off for cleaning. It is a white tool with 2 holes on it. After watching a video about cleaning my auto bIade I discovered I apparently got one with my cameo. I guess I misplaced it not knowing what it was for!
OMG!!! I was wondering why all of a sudden it started cutting all the way through my vinyl and my mat! I just paused this video and went to check and sure enough! There was a gap. I wonder if it got loose or something. THANK YOU!!!!!
Great vid. I’m trying to cut rhinestone material but the blade makes all the noise then stays on 0. Also it cuts half on the design fine sometimes but then doesn’t cut the rest of design at all !!! Weird.
Hello Bravo for your info. I had a problem. My auto blade did not cut. I could watch all the videos nothing to do until I noticed that I put my cutting mat too far to the left and I prevented the blade from tapping in the small hole in order to adjust. After that everything was going great. Here is
Yes yes yes. Thank you Thank you Thank you. I love you Melissa. I just purchased my Cameo 3 bundle and was ready to throw it out the window. Problem solved. 02/28/19. Smooches.
Help, I have been trying to cut HTV for hours with no success. I have used the auto blade but cannot get the settings correct. It seems to just skim the surface and doesn’t cut. Have not had a problem with other vinyl. What settings should I be using on Cameo 4. I just received my machine for Christmas so my blade is new.
hi! i have a question. i put offset to my sticker and when i print and cut, the offset i made is not even. i mean the spacing from right side is bigger than the left side. do you know whats the problem?
I just got my cameo 4 and it is not cutting even the test run for 651 vinyl. Tho, I pick the right material and autoblade. I was able to use it yesterday for 641 vinyl . Need help
Hi Wondering if you can help. I cut a lot of vinyl decals for using to custom spray paint helmets etc and i use a silhouette studio 3 and DE Tape Flexible Surfaces Stencil Film but at the moment i use the settings blade depth 1 force 10 speed 5, but a lot of the text etc are very small and i keep finding it tears them up i keep trying different settings but can't find one that doesn't ruin the decal. i'm not sure what way to go with the settings depending on what is happening. hope this makes some sense?
Hi Melisa thank you for all your tutorials have been a subscriber for quite some months now. Today my cameo has given me a hard time and cannot find any tutorial on why my blade has shifted to the right. How do I reset it to the default position?
Turn the machine off and unplug it then with your hand move the carriage all the way to the right then the left - do that 3 times. Then plug back in and power on and it should reset.
I tried all of your great suggestions but my autoblade was still cutting too deep, and it was tapping around to 1 correctly, firmware was up to date etc. (I started to wonder if I had label paper that was too thin for the machine or something!) But I remembered I had also purchased a deep cut blade. So I had a look at how far its blade stuck out at 1 in comparison to the autoblade at 1. The autoblade stuck our more. Also even when the autoblade was at 0 it still stuck out a lot. I had purchased a second autoblade too and it was the same. So I tried cutting with the deep cut blade set to 1 and force 1. And bugger me if it didn't work perfectly! So I tried manually clicking the autoblade to 0, put it back in the machine and told the machine it was a ratchet blade instead. It managed to do the kiss cut I wanted! So then I set the autoblade to 0 again with my finger (and cut myself :) lol ) and then pushed the blade down hard on my desk. I think it had helped push the blade up a little into the housing. So now I am achieving a kiss cut with the blade set to autoblade. Anyway for those of you have trouble with the autoblade cutting too deep, even on 1 give this a try. Set the base of the autoblade to zero with your fingernail, then pop in it the cameo as usual. But in the studio program, tell the software it is a ratchet blade and see if it works for you.
trying to cut chip board with the ratchet blade on the silhouette 3, and its cutting out cuts the first pass fine but when the 2nd pass, its moves over and is cutting out side the registration box on the matte. so its not cutting in the same spot. can you help? or tell me how to re calibrate it?
Make sure the clip that you push in to lock it is lifted up a bit because that also causes a gap and it’s not really explained in any videos that you watch
I got no gap on my blade. I'm having trouble cutting. Heat transfer paper and clear sticker paper. It's cutting just not good enough. If it call for a blade of 2, I gotta have a blade of 4. Wondering if my blade is dull?
So the autoblade does NOT need to be set to any specific number before putting it into the machine? How does the machine know where the blade is set? I've always wondered this. I don't use the autoblade because I don't understand it.
Hi I have a question that cannot be solved maybe you can help me 😭 So I need to cut these blue circles with no offset border, just round blue circles. But it always cuts on some of them off, so on the sticker I can see a bit of the white background paper. I tried calibration but it was pretty much on the crosses and also the distance was exactly at 20cm. I noticed that this inaccurancy is mostly in the upper half and on each of them less or more severe some of them turn out perfectly. I cut in good lighting, chose the right paper size and place it perfectly on the mat. Of course there are ways to get these circles but I am just frustrated knowing my machine is cutting off ;( I use epson printer on highest quality also have the latest version of silhouette studio…. Thanks😞❤️
Change the line weight and then do "cut" instead of cut edge. It will create an automatic bleed for you and works really well for images that have the same color all the way around the outside. Here's a tutorial > www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2022/01/easiest-way-to-add-bleed-around.html
Damn - I am having the oposite issue - I just got a Cameo 4 but can't get it to cut all the way through sticker paper - and have gone over the same sheet 3 times. It's not too thick or anything - just cant get the blade to go all the way throug. Tried to redo my blade and doesn't work. ugh.
Hello there, thanks for this video; I think you should fallow up with how to change or fix the cutting strip. (I looked at your videos and didn't find anything to that extend) I had the issues you describe in this video, ended up IM with someone and they were very helpful, BUT, my mat is cut all the way thru and even the cutting strip has a long gap of about 3 millimeters deep. Now my blade gets stuck in that gap (Or at least thats what I think is happening) Thanks for your efforts to help! Liz
My blade was cutting thru my vinyl and backing....AND thru my MATT! It was cutting perfectly for weeks. I will certainly try it. Now I am afraid to use a new mat because I have destroyed the first mat :(. I might cut without a mat this time. Also, for some reason, what I see on my screen is not cutting in the right spot on my vinyl? Instead of starting at left....it is off my vinyl on the top or cutting all the way over on the right. Frustrated.
So is my sticky mat considered ruined? I did a whole page 12x12 with lots of little cuts and my whole mat is cut through. I thought maybe it was normal ☹️ ugh.
i really need your help!! i have no gap but the autoblade is not going to the correct number set up every time it goes to 1 no batter what force or anything. why is it doing this
What do you do when the blade is properly installed and when it goes to cut the blade slide up and dose not cut? You can pull the blade out even with the lever pushed in to lock the blade
My Cameo 4 is cutting wrong every time. I’ve cleaned the sensor, adjusted the light to super bright, made sure the cutting tool is installed correctly. I’m trying to cut kits I buy on Etsy for my planner. I’m at a complete loss as to what to do next. Help!!!
So my silhouette just recently started having cut issues when it cuts anything the edges are jagged and if it does a circle it’s way off it will start the and be fine but when it ends the lines don’t meet up we replaced the needle and mat thinking it was we just needed new parts but it wasn’t that. Is there anyway you can help or have an explanation for this?? I have the silhouette cameo 4 it’s maybe a year old but very familiar with silhouettes I’ve been working with them for about 4 years just never had this happen
Hi there! I'd make sure that your software and firmware are up to date. If that doesn't solve it, it could help to calibrate your machine: www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2021/06/how-to-calibrate-silhouette-cameo.html
Can you help me. I star to cut and the cartridge is doing its little thing and goes over to cut but it just stays in one spot but acts like it is cutting. What can I do?
What do you do to prevent what happened to the second circle I can’t use the settings that is in my silhouette 4 for 651 vinyl it doesn’t cut it at all my setting are blade 2 force 20 speed 8
New issue unlocked. Selecting the correct depth is good. My problem is that it does not reset it properly. So if i manually reset the blade and then run the cut, it works. After that, if i want to cut something else, if i don't manually reset the blade, it will not reset it and it will go for example from 3 (the last setting i had) t=+ the new setting (let's say 5) so it will cut at 8.
I had a Cricut in my Amazon cart. Omg... you saved the day!! Who knew something so simple would fix everything!!!!
I can't thank you enough! I was literally on the verge of tears lol. To think the fix was as simple as locking the friggen blade. Feeling a mix of emotions right now. Happy that I can finally start making decals, and pissed that I made such a simple mistake lol. Thank you thank you thank you again!

I have the same and am using the oracal 751c vinyl. I had to have force down to 2 as 15 cuts the backing. Also its brand new.

I thought maybe it was normal ☹️ ugh.
i really need your help!! i have no gap but the autoblade is not going to the correct number set up every time it goes to 1 no batter what force or anything. why is it doing this
Sounds like it's broken and needs to be replaced.
Thank you omg... I just got a silhouette and that's exactly how my newbie ass put my blade in with the gap and it couldn't cut shit properly.
Thank you! You saved my project and my mind!!!
Thank you so much! I was on the verge of launching it against a wall.....
Hey there, if that happens, I recommend exactly the workaround you're referencing by setting the blade yourself like a manual blade.
The firmware is an issue now too. It says that it cannot install the firmware and to switch the machine on. Yet it is on.
Hi great video but why would my silhoutte cameo cut all over my image its just cutting all over like a crazy machine thank u
