I think if you look at the size of the navy in comparison to the country's seas and or land mass. I would say it's much better now then before.
In the past Singapore dun even have frigate level ships, we only had Missile Gunboats or Patrol vessels..and their anti air is a measly Manpad Mistral shoulder fired missile, or the 76mm gun.. and having 2 or 4 Harpoons. We didn't even have a ship that can launch a helicopter from in the past.
So for Singapore to have 6 Frigates with a 32 VLS cells, I would say it's much improved since the 1980s.

From the designs(in my view) it’s basically a constellation class frigate in terms of armament, 1 lightweight gun, 32 vls and 8-24 harpoons.
Realistically would be about 16 harpoons for me, unless ur America, nobody is insane enough to put that many on a single vessel, even if it’s big.
Also vls would probably not be the mark41 so they’ll stick to the European ones that are not quad packable so still 32 max capacity.

MRCV progam is The design is still an attack ship, I think this is more of a Destroyer type, even cruiser to cruise ships such as the Chinese Type 055, Italian DDX, German F128, and Spanish Destroyer Filht 3, all of which weigh 10,000 tons and above, which obviously have a lot of VLS. Maybe Singapore is still embarrassed to call it a Destroyer because it doesn't want to be said to have started an arms race in Southeast Asia, because none of its neighbors have started a Destroyer program, we all know that Singapore always wants to be the strongest in Southeast Asia and get the new nickname Israel of southeast Asia.

it should be noted that the members of the ASEAN coalition are not competing with eachother and are not at odds with one another, we're all militarizing because of our mainland neighbor who doesnt know when to stop bullying and somehow forgot why we're called the "first island chain defensive line", so now its time to remind them of that reason. to china: if you "fafo" then dont blame us for whats coming.
in the background: 7th fleet aggressively playing fortunate son*
sidenote: considering how much of a joke china's rocket force is and how china actually publicly declared war on graft, the situation in china is so bad that they likely dont have any chance of doing anything. their navy and army cant advance without their rocket force since the whole point of their rocket force was to suppress land based defensive installations to make land invasions not turn into a turkey shoot. which i kind of find funny since most of the defenses we have are mobile, not static targets, and china's rocket forces dont have smart missiles that can track moving targets across hundreds of kilometers, not that it would matter since they're all filled with water, kudos to the chinese soldiers who thought to syphon rocket fuel to cook stew.

I guess Singapore is arming to the teeth because I am told they have some stupid neighbors who are under the impression that it is very easy to overwhelm by just using long range artillery. The one problem they have to consider is this. "Where the hack is the response coming from"? What I think Singapore have are "Earth Satellite Stations" in various friendly countries which can communicate with the Singapore Satellites on low orbit 24/7. Also the roaming submersibles in close proximities. A Singaporean friend also told me, that all their air patrols are long range and accompanied by air tankers and early warning CAC aircraft. Also most of their air assets are equipped with electronic jammers.

Heavy equipment have ALWAYS been hard to replace, which is why you end up fighting with your existing stockpile, not possible future construction. At best, comparing to WWII, you can only replace about 5 traches of ships x number of shipyards you have.

Singapore's navy is only for protecting itself against aggressor.. Not to attack others or provoke others. In Asia it is not the strongest.. However In SEA.. they are strong enough for it's own survival against aggressor from that region.. I think the video exaggerate many areas. If you are comparing Singapore with countries that had nuclear military technologies, hypersonic missiles and stealth fighters... That's wrong category to put Singapore to compare with. It is not realistic for Singapore to join countries like China or US in the quest to be a superpower and they only purchase to upgrade their arm forces according to their defence needs in the region so as not to create an arm race or panic among it's neighbours. Maybe you can compared India with countries that had the same arsenal as India.
