    As a Student pilot, The most I can say is delays and returting back to the airport due to technical issue, is a thing pilots/crew/ground crew can't avoid, although feeling sad they lied about the hotel. I'll prefer, spend couple more bucks, and choose premium airlines like vistara or Air India (Air India becauss now its privatized by TATA)

      Do not choose Air India I did travel recently and it's not premium. I would prefer Indigo anyday. Staff are so professional unlike Air India where they behave like kids.

      Bruh mera air india ka flight experience bhi bura hi tha recently they delayed the flight after boarding all the passengers we were sitting in the plane for 2 hours and since it was in dubai it was so hot inside and then when we reach to our destination our baggage was left behind and they said they will deliver at home and they did after 3 days but they delivered the wrong bags and it took them 2 more days to return the original baggage so i wouldnt count air india as a luxury

    Personally, I'd recommend Vistara, Akasa or Indigo for domestic flight experiences. These three are the only ones that provide quality service equivalent for what passengers have paid for.

    I had a similar experience with spice jet, its the worst flight to fly with. Not just Spice Jet but Air Asia and Go First have a similar reputation when it comes to customer service and satisfaction. Delays are very common with these airline. Would highly recommend Air India, Indigo and my favourite Vistara Airlines to fly with if you plan to travel domestically.

      Technical issue and bad weather can delay flights, it's inevitable but better go with delayed flight than experiencing technical issues mid flight.

    You could have lodged a complaint officially. They would end up being fined from the aviation industry. Because its a rule that when a flight is 5hrs lates they should provide everyone food and accommodation.

      Nothin will happen. Unless you follow it up persistently and you are yourself a high profile client/ person. Red Tapism and "Process" will make them beat around the bush and passengers will be made to run from pillar to post. A classic scene in Domestic Air Travel in India. I'm saying this as an experienced traveller.

    Hey Sara, thanks for putting all of this in such a pleasant way. But clearly, it wasn't such a great experience. I can relate to it as it recently happened to me.
    As We are common citizens of this country and no one gives a damn about it.
    At least you have the power of social media Please use it to the fullest.
    This so-called airline carrier should understand that we also have commitments and schedules to follow.
    But SPCIEJET IS A BIG NO FROM HERE ON!!!

    Had a similar experience with spicejet. Cancel and rescheduled to next day for 3 consecutive days. Exactly same thing happened to a family member twice.
    After that never looked at spicejet flights. Lesson learnt.
    When I check for flights, in the filter I opt out of this airline 😂😊

    Even I had a similar experience on spicejet where they delayed the flight for 3+ hrs and didn't even give anything to eat which I think is compulsory in long delays. Plus, they damaged our baggage and told about a refund but didn't give/repair it 😤

    Take IndiGo, this one time i had a connecting flight from goa to Guwahati via Delhi, right when i was on my way to the airport they called me to say that due to some technical issue they had to place me on a Goa to Guwahati flight that goes via Kolkata, while this flight was 1 and a half hour later than my original flight but total flight duration was almost 2 hours less than the via Delhi flight so I reached home absolutely hassle free and half an hour earlier.
    This time when cyclone was hitting Gujarat I saw these girls having their connecting flight from Ahmedabad getting cancelled and Indigo arranged alternative flights on the same day around the same time for every passenger.

    In India, I think Indigo is the best. I’ve traveled a lot, whenever I travel with Air Asia, Spice Jet and Go Air I have to face some issues. But till now I’m quite satisfied with Indigo & Air India.

    I think ultimate problem is to using only one runway at a time. Delhi has now officially 4 runways in which four planes can take off and land at a same time. Mumbai should have atleast 3 runway without intersection. This is one of the main affecting factor for the delay of the flight.

    Had a similar experience last year with Vistara, all the passengers were waiting at the Dehradun airport & the staff was clueless abt the flight... passengers kept shouting on the Vistara staff for 3hrs straight, later they arranged flight & stay. Not a single person got refreshments from Vistara and we all were stuck there for more then 4 hours.

    I still remember we had bookings with spicejet during Covid times and all flights got cancelled at that time but they have still not refunded our tickets fare even after all the enquiries and procedures.. Indigo and Gofirst(then Go Air) returned within 7 days of cancellation however spicejet is still holding the money 😒😒

    Never travel in spicejet. Worst flight. We have experienced the same thing. But what we did was, we booked another flight immediately and demanded for a refund. We received the full refund after some 15 days. They always have technical issues in all their flights. 😅

    bro exactly same happened with me . We booked a flight to shillong on 26 may but they cancelled the flight 2 days before and then we booked another flight to guwahati and they offically changed the timings 3 times and this led to our 1 whole day got wasted. Spicjet is the worst

    It’s truly a sad situation however TOLERANCE should be maintained by passengers and the staff. People may think that they wasted their time however I would say… you saved yourself from a May be an accident situation with possible faulty aircraft.
    Just a suggestion: You should not say bad or negative things …not to fly this airlines… as a TH-camr. We understand frustration however glad you all are safe.

    Had the same experience on United Airlines on a Mumbai -New Jersey flight
    They had technical difficulties while we were over the Arabian Sea -just as dinner was about to be served & we were brought back -
    The ground staff were disgusting =ticket cancelled -luggage returned and then told us to just get lost -not a sip of water - or the dinner we’d missed &many of us were senior citizens & wheel chair passengers who were treated very very badly !Luckily I went to my neice’s house as she was in town -there were many outstation passengers like me from Pune ,Surat etc
    I heard later they finally were given hotel rooms hours later & next day getting tickets again was a nightmare
    The cabin crew were very sympathetic but the ground staff must have been recruited from Hell!!

    Thanks Sara for sharing your horrible experience on SpiceJet. Thats why now I travel with only 4 airlines: Air India, Indigo, Vistara and Akasa Air. I stopped using SpiceJet long ago. No regrets. I love the 4 airlines with which I travel.

    Vistara is the best. BTW I remember the worst BT when some dude (probably his first ever flight at the emergency window) just opened the window when we were 30 mins into the flight and we had a massive turbulence. The guy collapsed right away. Officials ne apna sar peet liya tha.

    This happened same with me and my family while coming back to Mumbai from Delhi. But our flight was Air India. When we landed at Mumbai airport there just chaos because of delays and cancelled flights and some passengers did not even got food. I think indigo is the best I have experienced till date.

    Same happened with me at the end of March by Indigo!!!! They gave me a fruit juice as a compensation 😢 I missed my connecting flight and the whole night I stayed in the airport. Bro this is normal in India and honestly the aviation department doesn't give a f**k bcz they know again you'll take an air ride and even you might agree to fly at a higher price. Indians don't show proper protests unitedly and some of the passengers are like chalo bhai idhar rukte hai kaya karenge wo log humara baat nahi sunenge.

    Instead of fighting I would simply book my own hotel and go take some rest. Always have travel insurance if you are going on an important trip or have a connecting trip abroad.

    Even though they didn’t offer night stay at hotel. The tickets are cheaper. It is better to be safe than sorry as there was a technical issue. I would rather stay at the airport than risk flying a plane with my issues endangering the lives of passengers.

    As someone from the industry, I can explain the situation a little. The delayed departure must have been because the aircraft was delayed the whole day, leading to consequential delays. The good thing, is they informed you in advance. Again, when it was delayed by an hour is because it could have taken off from the destination towards Mumbai and got further delayed for landing sequence, especially during evening peak hours. Now coming to the technical malfunction, it can happen to any aircraft, it's a machine at the end of the day and it happens. The decision to come back to Mumbai may have been taken because of a few reasons, one being, you had just departed from there, and maintenance is available. The weather was favourable to land back rather than continue, or maybe with the malfunction, it could have caused further problems if they decided to continue to your destination, or because a landing at Srinagar may not be possible with the malfunction, Srinagar is a high elevation airfield and poses other issues besides that. Now talking about the holding over Mumbai for an hour and a half, the flight looked full, so my understanding is that it was because of the landing weight restriction. I'll explain with approximate figures. For this aircraft type, let's say the maximum takeoff weight is around 70 tonnes and the maximum landing weight is around 65 tonnes, the fuel burnt for Bom-Sxr is usually around 7-8 tonnes. So if they've taken off at 70 tonnes, when they reached Srinagar, they would have burnt the fuel and be around 62-63 tonnes. Now because they have to return to Mumbai, the aircraft is closer to 70 T rather than 65 T. So they had to burn that fuel in order to land, which is what they did. In saying that, to reassure you, it might not have been a big malfunction, in which case they would have not burnt the fuel and done an overweight landing, which is what is done in emergencies. Regarding the crew actions, it sounded like their actions were done to the best of their abilities. Regarding the hotel, I cannot comment. The pilots made the announcement with information they received, it turned out to be wrong. When the aircraft is on the ground, it is up to the ground support staff to handle the situation and any doubts. I hope my explanation was of help!

    What spice jet is for air travel, gujrat travels is for land travel. Gujarat travels drop the passengers midway and wash their hands and its for the passengers to make their own arrangements to reach their destinations.

    U cud have officially logged a complaint with DGCA…if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled while you are in the airport it’s the airlines duty to compensate with hotel stay, food and additional fine

    You should have forwarded this video to DGCA especially when they wrongly committed Hotel Stay.

    This is pathetic! I have faced the same issue as my flight was delayed by 12:45 hours and I was on airport alone

    I am a frequent traveler, this is true 2-3 Indian Airlines very unprofessional always delayed like Spicejet, Air India, Air Asia etc Naver travel on these airlines

    As per my experience Vistara and AirAsia are the best. Go Air and Spicejet being the worst. Now Air India is now a Tata enterprise just like Vistara, hence their services must have been good.
    Indigo is just average not too good not bad.
    Now at present a new airlines named Akasha have started their services. Let's see how they perform.

    You can always ask airport staff to give you complaint book. Its necessary if you face any kind of problem. As per rules airline must have to five stay and food if this kind of situation arises.

      I have experienced late flights with Go first.
      We also wrote many complaints and we demanded food for every passenger and they had given to all free.

    I m a regular international flyer.
    It's not only with spice jet
    All airlines are experiencing same situation through out the world
    Exception ( Eithad, emirates and Lufthansa)

    My parents took one of the flights from Spice Jet once and after that we’ve never flown from it every again, Fly India, Vistara or Indigo (Indigo has many cabin baggage issues though)

    Spice Jet is horrble. I had a 4 hour delay after a 1 hour journey to the airport and 1.5 hours prior waiting time, with no alternative flight to switch to. The delay was announced so late that ai could not even travel to the other airport which was 2 hours in the opposite diredtion. They did not even serve complimentary snacks to the passengers.

    SpiceJet has had terrible service since quite a few months. I was returning from Guwahati and my flight got delayed 7 hours. And just a month later my friend who was flying to Guwahati had the same issue. 6 am flight got delayed to 10 am, then again delayed to 5 pm and finally it took off at 9 pm. Horrible service

    It's there duty to provide hotel, near next flight, and food for free. If not you can file a case in the high court. And you all will be granted compensation.
