16 miles per gallon from a heavy car with a v12 is impressive. I love this vehicle more than a Rolls, you can tell Mercedes put so much heart into making it. Plus it has timeless understated beauty.
Well in all honesty the people that would buy such a car back in the day wouldn't care if it did 1 mpg, maybe only because they would be wasting time sitting at a gas station shouting at their driver. But yes those Maybach models are some kind of gems in the automotive industry and they are kind of a special breed as MB kinda halfassed it to make it just a little better than their S-class but with a 2x pricetag which I think where most people fail to understand what exactly they are paying for which is very true if you compare it to a fully spec'ed S-class.
Lexus had air conditioned and massage seat settings in 2003 with the LS. 16 mpg is pretty good with a power plant that large, i was expecting single digits.
I wouldn't say the fuel economy is that bad. There are cars that have little power but burn tons of fuel because their little motor has to work really hard to get things moving. The first gen BMW X5 3.0 and W211 Mercedes Benz E350 4 MATIC come to mind. Their smaller motors powering heavy vehicles and all 4 wheels make for terrible fuel economy. At least these higher powered vehicles pull great.

This was so much better made than today's stuff from Maybach. The location of the rear fridge alone shows how much better this was engineered. The new one just has it jutting out into the trunk which is so ugly and dumb.
I was lucky enough to be driven around in a 62 for a week back in the 2000s. I have no idea how they drive but the comfort in back was phenomenal for the time. Fully reclining rear seats in the 62. It is a memory I won't forget.
There's bad car depreciation then there's Maybach depreciation. I've never seen one on the road here in the UK... probably for that reason. And then Simon Cowell bought one... Looks like Mercedes couldn't catch a break with this car!!
Great car and great video! A video of a ride in the back seat would also be very interesting. Maybe you will have time to record a video like this one day.
I think the reason they failed with this car was the fact that this is a s class W221 with a maybach badge on it. Thats why they changed the marketing and the next gen W222 was a Mercedes Benz Maybach. Like an extra luxury special edition of the best german limousine. Just my 50 cents. Nice Review !
10:05 rear windows not opening with bad accu is not good for emergency situations.
I can imagine U will need a second Job to maintain a Car like this, just look at those Double brake callipers, I bet it got double Sparkplugs (Engine Management) also, and then there the Suspension...
A Friend of mine went nearly bankrupt on a CL600 V12 2003.
I myself drive a 00 Jaguar Vanden Plas Super V8 LWB ,weights 1840 Kg/370 Hp, 5.15 Meters, so it's always interesting to see another Super Sedan.
Greetings !
That amg tune is like music to my ears
I liked the video because he said ,,they failed“. Just watched first 38 seconds, liked the video and left.
I love your videos Mr. T. and you style.
"Curtains, or... peasant blockers"
"Sorry. I misspoke"
And I see what you did there Mr. T !
I WISH I got 18MPG in my first car, that's amazing MPG
Love the videos tedward always relaxing would love some more night drives if possible i know its kinda hard when barrowing from your favorite lender keep up the videos
Thanks! Tough unless it’s a friends car haha. I’ve got a phantom this weekend though!
@@TedwardDrives now that’s a video I can’t wait to see!
You’re vids are wonderful!
In comfort you get a bit of torque converter slipping making the drive super smooth
A sports limo then? Nice!!
I once chased a Carrera S down a B road in Kent in a taillift curtain side Sprinter.
Trust me, weight is not the issue.
This was so much better made than today's stuff from Maybach. The location of the rear fridge alone shows how much better this was engineered. The new one just has it jutting out into the trunk which is so ugly and dumb.
I just discovered your channel Tedward. And I'm glad I did, great content! New sub here 👍
Thanks Rob!!

Hey you're welcome, man. Keep up the great work!
your grandma is so cuuute.
I was lucky enough to be driven around in a 62 for a week back in the 2000s. I have no idea how they drive but the comfort in back was phenomenal for the time. Fully reclining rear seats in the 62. It is a memory I won't forget.
4:40 looking like deadshot 🔥
I've had two W220s and I currently own a W221. I see both of them in this car
Amazing review, thanks!
cooled seats were on my Sclass in 1999 as well
brilliant thats my dream car
There's bad car depreciation then there's Maybach depreciation. I've never seen one on the road here in the UK... probably for that reason. And then Simon Cowell bought one... Looks like Mercedes couldn't catch a break with this car!!
All those features. I have those cooled seats in my S55 AMG 😁
16 mpg was actually a lot better than I thought it would be
"The peasant blockers" this man🤣
Why doesn't my '08 Fit have the "present blocker" curtin as standard?
Awesome, thorough review!
Thank you kindly!
Sheeeeesh that car sure is nice for an 04
I personally think that you are right with the plug-in thing
Hello. In which city the video is being shot. Very beautiful.
восторженный обзор - водителю реально комфортно
Mercedes Maybach: Let's just put the umbrellas in the trunk
Rolls Royce: *Imma end this man's whole career!*
great vid clear and good advices as i am european!!! keep going
I miss when maybach was a completely separate brand instead of a trim level.
That Maybach is the real ultra-lux limo, not just an S class with extra bells and whistles!
Great car and great video!
A video of a ride in the back seat would also be very interesting. Maybe you will have time to record a video like this one day.
The engine really sounds like two angry, sporty straight-sixes working along together.
OK, how freaking adorable is grandma? :)
I ll take one any day!!! Its still beautiful 😊
I think the reason they failed with this car was the fact that this is a s class W221 with a maybach badge on it. Thats why they changed the marketing and the next gen W222 was a Mercedes Benz Maybach. Like an extra luxury special edition of the best german limousine. Just my 50 cents. Greetings from Germany and .. Respect the drive!
That's not what this car is. It's an amalgamation of W140 structure and W220 subsystems.
It’s based on the last iterations of W220 series S class (see wing mirrors, gages, chairs etc), although it’s kinda similar to 221. Defiantly not on 140 though 😊 i wonder if they rust just as much as 220’s do :( such a good cars with such a cancer.
hello, is your car at the Mercedes Benz of Burlington lol? because i work there and i’ve seem this same exact looking maybach in the shop
Not sure if it’s still there but it definitely was there recently
I love this car. You can make more videos on it. I’ll watch it.
I drive a 2004 S400, and compared to my car, this is something else. I didn't think they could possibly fit in this much extra bling into it
Is this sitting at Mercedes in Burlington with its bumper off?
Will Mercedes dealership fix and maintain this if I were to purchase one today?
Yes they will but you'll be broke after the first service... just do it all yourself and it's no more costly then any normal car
God look at that woodwork and engine sound. Bring back the glory days back.
seen one of these hooptied out for sale at a discount motorsports dealer for bout 20k.
