- Final Episode 4... Adventures with a Purpose used sonar equipment to locate a submerged Ford Explorer found Saturday in the murky waters of Darby Creek.
The Explorer and tags matched the entry on a missing person report from Dec. 4, 2003, for James "Jimmy" Amabile, solving a 19-year missing person case in Pennsylvania from December 04, 2003.
This 4 part series documents Adventures With Purpose's search for James Amabile, following the clues left behind, from a cell phone ping, last phone call, information from his family about insulin levels, and knowing that James woke up in a panic that he was late picking up his daughters from the babysitters, all playing a role in leading to the discovery of where James Amabile and his SUV had gone missing in the river 19-years earlier.

CASE DETAILS
Amabile, 38, vanished on the afternoon of Dec. 4, 2003, after leaving his home in Folsom, PA to go pick up his two daughters from a babysitter in his 2002 green Ford Explorer.
Jimmy had overslept and called the babysitter at 5:13 p.m. to say that he was running a few minutes late.
The call was routed through a cellphone tower at Morton Avenue and MacDade Boulevard.
The babysitter’s home was a short distance away, near Bullens Lane, but Amabile never arrived.
In the intervening years, investigators chased down any and all leads, though there was not much to go on.
Jimmy's credit cards, bank accounts, and cell phone remained unused.
Though he was an insulin-dependent diabetic, no prescriptions were ever filled in his name.
The Pennsylvania State Police conducted helicopter searches, looked into reports of sightings and unidentified bodies found in New York and New Jersey, even going to the Poconos after a Ford Explorer was found torched there.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy's family during this difficult time.

That's honestly what I hate about the universe. 7 years ago (I ranch) every farmer knows everybody no matter how far the road is. My neighbor uncle gone missing.
On the phone with somebody else who son was in a wreck with one brother. Which the brother passed away. Said "check the gyp hill" it's a true canyon. I called Brandon which would've been the nephew to the man missing. I told him what the neighbor of my neighbor missing said. "Check the hills aka a canyon" im 15 years old. Well driving threw one of the roads 3 miles away from. Brandon the nephew house.
Sorry if this sounds confusing.
Brandon found his truck stop there made phone calls.
Sheriff's gone out. I drove out.(oklahoma. Roads roads.) You'll see 9 year olds driving.) I pull up start helping look on the 640 acres. Damn. 15 years old at the time. To this day I wish I didn't find him. I actually cried. I don't cry. I am a human Tank I've broke bones and ppl were in shocked by how calm I was. That was truly the most sad thing and we all started looking because of a neighbor who doesn't get a long with another neighbor because of the same generation of brothers death by the neighbor son Who pointed us to that area. The neighbor who accidently killed one of the 3 brothers.
The last brother is my grandma age now and yeah. I feel bad for him cause he's the youngest abd out live everybody. Mom dad and the 2 older brothers.

Still, that’s an expensive machine, he time is money, and he was beyond generous to donate his equipment and time for free.

Absolutely. The normal daily rate for that machine is not a small amount, but as it was clearly not in use that day, the "real" costs are lower.
Still a magnificent gesture, not only to the family but the entire community.

The owner of that crane company is a real friend. Wow. That isn't cheap and he did it for free. It's situations like these that allow you to see the best side of people that you otherwise may not have. Hats off to everyone involved.

@@dycook And I think it genuinely isn't even that necessarily, this was a display of love from one friend to another. It's moving to see that. It's completely understandable if they charged because businesses don't operate on charity, so I wouldn't ever hold it against them, but I absolutely will praise them in this situation because they've gone above and beyond.

This was one of the best AWP's series of episodes because Doug and the team was able to participate from beginning to end. Delaware County LE not only trusted the AWP team, but it also recognized their own limitations. Hats off to ALL involved!!
Exactly. This police force had exemplary humility. They deferred to Doug and his team's expertise and went above and beyond to be accommodating to everything they needed. I hope more officers see this and aspire to conduct themselves similarly.
SHAME on that barge company who wanted to charge an “astronomical” fee for this job. They are the ones who ignorantly drilled that pilon through the vehicle in the first place. That’s just incredibly disgusting on so many levels.

Yes I think the city should be filing a lawsuit against the company who put in the pylon because they obviously did a horrible job to begin with. I find it truly amazing it was able to stand upright all those years only being attached to a car and not the ground underneath it.
I would like to say thank you to Jarred and the whole AWP team for letting me be a part of something as profound and life changing as this was. Also a shout out to the guy who bought us all Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and the hard working crane crew who was the first ones to arrive and the last ones to leave. This day was in the lower 20s and the wind was fierce. Making this an extremely cold day. Thank you to everyone who is a part of this, all the volunteers, Wesley, his boys. Again, thank you so much for the help we could’ve not of done this without you guys sticking it out till the end.

Who else got misty eyed reading the tributes written on the pylon? 'Jimmy, you'd be so proud of them' Kudos to AWP, Pro Crane, the Police, Fire Departments, Medical Examiner's Office and everyone who aided in that recovery.
I remember filming that... as I am am panning I am also reading those messages for the first time and it really just broke my heart, and made me really feel for all of Jimmy's family and friends that have been affected by this outcome.

That sentence that was written on the pole saying "Jimmy you would be so proud of them." hits hard. It really got me emotional knowing he wasn't able to see the kids grow, and the kids having to live without him is really sad. I am crying while writing this but, rest in peace jimmy you are finally in peace now.

I agree! It's hard enough on the family finding out after years where their loved is! They are hurting and don't know where to turn. IMO the police departments detectives should pay the crane bill. They have already been paid to search this water and didn't do it.

Most, if not all, of the trucks that pull out the vehicles for AWP do it for free. They've been incredible in helping them on recovery!
@@glenchadwick420 Obviously the equipment back then for searching under water, and a fast moving current was not like the sonar equipment AP uses. It's no ones fault. But I'd say the pile driver company needs to come back and put the pile in right for free. They obviously did not do it right the first time.

This story was brilliantly taped and edited. As a viewer, I could hardly breathe through all four episodes. Kudos to all concerned: the recovery team, the crane company and crew, all the officials who played a role, etc. Simply an amazing, heart-stopping effort, from beginning to end. And as sad as it was, at least the family finally had its answers to a very old mystery, and learned exactly what had happened to this devoted husband and father.

@@RjMacProductions People have no idea how big barges are. They are like ships. They would have to pay a crew to bring the barge from another location and return it later. They are strong enough to place heavy cranes and drilling equipment on top. Not every company can afford to lend such expensive vessels for free. I'm just grateful the family can now lay their loved one at peace.

What's even crazier is this dock was put in, according to Google Earth, in June 2004, they could have had closure in less than a year easily
It didn’t even hit soil, it was only anchored to the car which blows my mind because you know it must have shifted some initially or simply gone in weird
They’d have had more than just bones at that point:( breaks my heart that the company that put them in didn’t just survey the land like they’re supposed to.
If they had noticed and surveyed the river correctly, I wonder if they knew the car was there but never reported it.

It's possible the dock company knew about the car but used it as an anchor for the pylon to save $. They sound unscrupulous.
My family and I own a slip here, we boat out of this ramp all the time. Crazy to think this dude was under us for so many years. May our motors not disturb his soul any longer. Rest In Peace, Jim.

I can’t stop crying. They probably thought he abandoned them, when, in fact, he died because of them. He was in such a diabetic fog, he didn’t recognize the babysitter’s house. I just wish he had pulled to the side of the road and called his brother. So tragic. If I’m crying, I can’t imagine the pain of his family. 💔

Let’s remember that AWP doesn’t bill for its services, ever. They survive on donations only. I loved hearing that the crane company also donated their services as well. If only this could happen across the states by other companies and we could find all the missing family members. I will continue to hope. 🥰🥰🇺🇸🇺🇸

I agree that upset me shoddy construction survey That man should have been returned to his family years ago. It's not acceptable. All those extra years wondering. When the father broke down for feeling guilty because he thought his son just walked away from his life, my heart just sank and I started having tears fall. At least most of his family is alive and he has been brought home now.
Makes you wonder how many more missing persons cases there are where people are literally right under our noses. I just can’t see how THIS was missed. Even those contractors building the dock and placing that pylon RIGHT on the car.. they didn’t clear the area first to be sure nothing was underneath?? All praises are due to Allah, his family finally got closure and I’m sure he’s FINALLY at rest.

It makes everything just go that much smoother and quicker, doesn't it.
They are what every law enforcement officer should aspire to be. Their professionalism and humility made this process go smoothly. There was no ego or wanting to show off. They worked together with a common goal: to bring Jimmy home.
Right? If you’ve watched their episodes from the beginning, then you’ve seen other departments act like absolute asshats. They get defensive and territorial rather than being grateful for the free help from professionals with the equipment, talent, skills, and time to do what no one else had been able to. I have so much respect for the AWP crew for the public service they provide.

Same, I got to that part of the video with the messages on the post and just absolutely lost it.
I first thought of the entire crew getting him and his vehicle out of there. But then I wondered if it wasn't written about his two daughters that are now in their 20's. I can't imagine what it must have been like to lose a dad at such a young age, and to grow up with all of the unanswered questions. Glad AWP was able to find him.

The videos on this case may actually be the most profound that AWP has ever done... from the standpoint of the story itself, from the editing, and from Doug’s perspective and explanations. Tremendous, tremendous work. And I am soooo impressed with the local law enforcement, the fire department, the local dive team and of course, the crane company... from what i saw, they gave so much respect to AWP and a lot of that had to do with how Doug carefully relayed the professional stance and experience of AWP to the officials.

there was true respect between all the 'agencies' there, including the family members who reached out to AWP. it was so obvious in all the conversations and in the teamwork we saw.
i have seen some videos where the LE were beyond rude and not at all professional and not willing to give respect to the experience of this team.
i think that with doug having the background in the towing industry, it really brings another level of experience to the team and to the recovery process.
a definite asset.

I imagine there's all sorts of legality, procedural and jurisdiction issues when a private company is so thoroughly involved in such a recovery. You see a bit of that when Doug tells the official that there's no liability from their perspective. It's nice to see that common sense can prevail once in awhile to just get the job done.
they found the car + remains, but afterward they essentially stay on as unpaid volunteer consultants and as long as the police are ok with what they recommend I'm not sure what liability they have. Anyone can sue anyone for anything, so the details don't matter as long as they're not in trouble with the police for disturbing a crime scene.
Only those sick beyond grief would try to sue these angels in a man suit.

I feel the need to recognize the skill of that crane company, and their willingness to donate that skilled time. This entire recovery was anxiety inducing. So glad you all worked so well together to achieve this goal. I think this is what Doug needed to experience after seeing how the initial discovery affected him.
I agree. That crane operator was outstanding! Moving such a huge piece of equipment in such tiny increments is truly a skill.
Your show constantly improves. What we are exposed to in every episode are the realities of trauma and sorrow that are inevitable in our lives eventually that none of us can escape. And in your videos we see the sorrowful side of life when it brings out the best in humanity. Giving much without expecting anything in return. Keep up the good work.

Oh, dear God, this was amazing. Just for the family to be able to know how, and where Jimmy was for all these years, means a lot. What the hearts of mankind, the will of God, and the technology of now a days has done, and can do. My heart goes out to this family and ALL other families those who have and those who have not found their loved ones. For hundreds of years many have been lost and never found, God sees them I'm thankful that today there is a way made to retrieve these ppl😌

Yes my dad goes through these episodes of low blood sugar and I have found him convulsing in his room several times frm the effect of low blood sugar! It breaks my heart to know he tried to open the window in the winter cause it means he probably tried to do something but couldn’t. Blessings to the crane company owner for taking some of the pain away from this family! My heart could explode right now from watching everyone being so selfless. ❤️🫶🏻

As someone that is in Criminal Justice and pursuing Missing persons, my hearts go to you fellas at AWP, and this episode was so humbling. The law enforcement community was outstanding and gave you the lead and appreciated you for your wealth of knowledge. Crane company hats off to you 100% God has a plan for all of us and it was definitely shown here!
I've spent my life playing at the old bar that used to be there before stingers and even stingers and boating on this body of water. It's where we kept our boat. I can absolutely see how Jimmy ended up where he was. 20 Years ago you could drive straight into the water from that parking lot if you wanted to. Crazy to think how many times I've stood above this car in my life never knowing it was down there. Let alone someone inside of it! Glad to see closure finally. Also disappointed in my township for not dedicating more resources to this, but happy to see them allow AWP to assist them in the recovery.
The amount of collaboration between everyone was possibly the most fantastic we've seen yet, given how complex the situation was. That was amazing to have the crane company do that for free. I love seeing the respect, everyone giving their time, knowledge, and input to make this a successful recovery. My hands ached as I watched all of you taking your gloves off to handle the wet 'rope'. I know what 20 degrees feels like, and to have your hands bare and wet makes it all that more challenging to get your fingers to manipulate properly. My admiration and thanks to all involved.
I LOVE THAT YOU USE TOY MODELS TO SHOW THE RIGGING PROCESS. IT REALLY GIVES US THE ABILITY TO SEE THINGS THE WAY YOU DO. PRETTY COOL GUYS.

This hit especially hard for me as I was diagnosed with Diabetes last year, on top significant heart disease. I let my drivers license expire and I am afraid to get a new one for the simple reason that I am afraid to have an "episode" while driving and not only kill myself but possibly someone else. These videos from Adventures With Purpose only confirm my reasons to let others drive and me be the passenger. It is much safer for me and everyone else that way. Thank you for all you do not only for the families but for strangers like me that needs to see what can happen and allow for a final decision on safety in regards to health problems and driving. You guys are Angels on Earth!!

To the company who wanted to charge a ridiculous amount for Jimmy's recovery.... I hope you watched this, and know that money is not what won here. It was kindness, selflessness, and love for a family in a time of sadness and heartache.
This was absolutely the best series I have watched of AWP. It was sad and heartwarming at the same time and shows just what can happen when a community pulls together. Kudos to Doug for handling the difficult and complicated situation with such grace and compassion.
I can just picture boats and people going in and out of that dock , all those years not knowing that Jimmy was right there . People just out enjoying their day , having a good time . A big thank you to the crane company for donating their time and effort. Doug , Anthony ...., no words can begin to describe what wonderful and caring people you are.

The editing on this one was second to none. The intertwining of angles from down below to the drone footage made this series as good as anything out of hollywood. Kudos to Carson and Josh and whoever else had a hand in the editing.

This is one of the most epic series to date that showed what good things can happen when police and other first responders can work side by side with Adventure With Purpose with no ego's no feeling like someone is stepping on others toes. Thank you to all the first responders, DOUG and the crew and another SPECIAL thanks to the crane company that lent their help as well. I had goose bumps watching part 3, it was a very emotional 40 minutes. Peace to the family and Peace to the AWP family.
I submit that this was more than "side by side" . The various entities involved were so intertwined that it was sometimes hard to tell who was with who. As you wrote, no egos and no one with anything to prove . It was perfection.
Totally agree was so incredible to watch, im so proud of those police and fire departments and everything being real honest people with concern. I never forget the one episode with the scumbag cop saying oh come on its Friday or something dont have time for this. That guy is a disgrace. Amazing to see such wonderful people all fascinated and focused on this

This is so incredible. Cold, water current, cooperation between entities, only one day available, everything just came together. When Doug mentioned just the permits needed to move the crane to the dock I thought about how all the Bureaucratic red tape just disappeared. This is indeed Devine intervention plus the selflessness of all involved. In a great time of need the community pulled together.

This series was a hell of a ride but it’s so beautiful to see the lengths a community will go to for “just one man”… all of these people are so much more.

Great job Doug and crew! So glad everyone was able to work together to bring Jimmie home to his family. Big thank you to everyone involved! So sad that the company that installed the pylons and the dock didn't do their due diligence to make sure the riverbed was clear. Otherwise Jimmie could have been brought home years ago. Hopefully it is a lesson learned for them and for anyone else that works or plays on the water. Keep your eyes open and be watchful. You never know what might be beneath the surface.

Apparently, they thought the pylon was going through the riverbed instead of through an engine block. The SUV was holding that pylon in place. IN-FREAKIN-CREDIBLE!
Thank goodness, at least, when the pillar was installed it didn't compromise the remains.
Although it was wrong of the pylon company not to check first before drilling through the car however the pylon kept the car in one place. With the strong currents in the river James car and his remains could of floated off anywhere and never be found.
I know I'm not alone in wishing I had the skills and resources to help people like you guys do. Your selfless commitment is simply extraordinary. God bless you all!

This is perhaps your best episode yet. Your caring about what you do shined through. You were sensitive to his family, the co-operation with and from the police and fire services was incredible and full marks to the crane company and its workers for volunteering their equipment and time. A video like this is the sort of thing that should be part of police training to increase awarenes of the capabilities of organisations like yours and how to work with them.

It's so moving when Adventures With Purpose and their associates locate a missing person/s and are able to give some sort of closure to their loved ones. Most of these scenarios simply make me sad but this one makes my blood boil as well. First of all the barge company doesn't take the time to check the river bed for obstacles (vehicles) and drills a pylon into the bonnet of Jimmy's car then they have the gall and audacity to ask for an exorbitant fee to raise it. Kudos to Pro Crane for doing the job for no fee.
I recall from the last episode that the company that installed the docks went out of business. They had to contact another company to raise the vehicle.
they never said the company that installed the pylon into the car was the same company that wanted a huge fee to help retrieve the car.
I am pretty sure from actually LISTENING to the story that it's a different company they contacted about removal

man I commend Doug every time but his handling of the police and team as far as towing and rigging is amazing. I could not fathom even making a plan let alone standing in front of all these men and women explaining it with so much ease and comfort. he doesn't sweat or stammer and it shows how confident in his skills he is. keep it up and keep the videos coming.

Tears came to my eyes as I watch Jimmy’s brother help the divers out of the water. His family is well thought of as I can see by the people around them. I’m really happy Pro Crane volunteered to help with the retrieval of Jimmy’s Ford Explorer. It seems there should be a lability there with the pillar being placed in the engine Bay Area in the car. The waters should have been scooped out before construction. Adventures With Purpose does a great heart felt job with helping people with closer in finding family members. Thanks for all authorities in this county and township. Law enforcement was outstanding. God give peace to the familiar of Jimmy. Rest forever Jimmy. You’ve been waiting a long time to be found but thanks to God’s divine intervention with AWP you have been found.
Doug, I was so furious right there with you when you found the pylon through the hood. Just like when you found the Veteran at the boat launch where local fisherman said “don’t go left when you launch bc you’ll hit something” A big part of this movement is education on scenarios just like this! Making fisherman aware, having them check their sonar when they launch.

Who was the veteran at the boat dock?
I am seventy two years of age, never in my life have I witnessed such a recovery... on part three, the discovery... I found myself crying for this family. I am glad they have closure but this is so overwhelming.. I thought I would be ready but this man is not too proud to say, loss is hell as I too have lost kids, family and close friends. You just are really never ready for something like this

Just started watching these videos. I was around heavy construction during my early life and during the early videos I kept thinking you need a crane for this. I am so glad to see you with the right equipment for the job.
My husband and father did this work their whole lives and they had some of the biggest hearts and would be awestruck by these videos.
You are doing the right thing for the right reasons. Which is high praise in this day and age.

Having that experience being a tow truck driver sure comes in handy when rigging and extracting vehicles. Fantastic job Doug and the rest of the team, along with all law enforcement and especially the tow truck company for volunteering your time and resources to make this successful. I’m sure Jared is so proud of you! Shame on the dock company for being so unsympathetic and money hungry. Their company name should be spread around the state for their insensitive nature and lack of passion to help this family. RIP Jimmy!

I completely disagree with you... you’re ignoring the fact that that company put the pilings in and they made a huge and obvious error; the sad thing is that they absolutely knew something was wrong when they did it... they would have had to top-off more than ten feet from this particular post, as opposed to the typical two to three feet from all the others. They knew there was a problem originally and they literally made a decision to leave a haphazard situation that was unsafe for everyone around that dock. They should be ashamed and embarrassed and if they had ANY integrity at all, they would have stepped up in this situation to set things right. Because someone at that company knew that the installation was flawed. They refused to set the situation right and they put an absurdly high price on it so they wouldn’t have to step up. I wish Doug would have said the name of the company.... they play a dirty game.. and I’d love to have a ‘conversation’ with the owner. And I say that as a company owner myself; further, I would never let money get in the way of doing the right thing. I never have. Still blown away that the company that put that pylon in is still in business and after getting a call knowing that a car that someone died in and was missing for almost 20 years was stuck underwater pinned under one of those pylons and instead of offering to help they were immediately trying to get a huge payday. That company clearly doesn't care about the community there at all.

I watched all the episodes as it is a pretty riveting story to tell. This shows how much work goes into this recovery and that was with great cooperation from all involved. Wow, this one got to my heart bad. Amazing work by Doug and his crew and everyone involved. These guys need a tv show. It's 3am and I just couldn't go to bed without finishing all 3 episodes.
This series is an amazing example of community. I've watched countless hours of AWP and seen how Egos can get in the way of their mission when they just want to help these families. I cried in every video, the empathy, compassion, professionalism, respect and team work was touching. I don't have a lot of time to spend watching you tube so i never became a member just a subscriber but I became a member yesterday to show my support and my sister bought us all window breakers. We love you guys and are proud you come from our state of Oregon. Not a lot of good things have been talked about from Oregon recently but you all are showing there are good caring people that live here.
Shame on the barge company for requesting such a high price to help, but thankful for the people who did come together to help bring Jimmys car and the remains in the vehicle up to the surface.

This was a very unique and difficult experience. Doug amd Anthony, and everyone from AWP, the crane operator and other workers, the police, divers, fire and coroner, you all did an outstanding job.
