  • We found Richard Ritz (Missing Person) underwater in his Toyota 4-Runner who had been missing 9-months earlier in September 2020. One of the clues we had to go off of was that Richard was last seen at 501 N Lombard and the statement he had made.
    "If I ever go missing, just know that I'm on a really long fishing trip"
    Armed with that information, our team chose Cathedral Park Boat Ramp as our first place to search where we identified 4 targets underwater using sonar.
    Two of the targets looked fresh on sonar, while the other two we could tell had been buried in the silt, indicating a much longer time underwater in the 10-20 year period.
    We suited up to scuba dive on all 4 targets, however, the first vehicle we chose turned out to the vehicle in question, finding the Toyota 4-Runner upside down, along with a matching license plate.
    Once identified as Richard's vehicle, this becomes a crimes scene, calling 911, standing back, and offering our services if they need assistance.
    With a very competent dive team, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Dive Team took over, recovering Richard from the 4-Runner and bringing answers to the family that evening the family so desperately needed these past 9-months.
    =============
    Richard Ritz, 74, was last seen in September of 2020 leaving a bar in the 9500 block of North Lombard Street.
    Richard Ritz described as a white man with a short fu-manchu-style mustache. He stands approximately 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighs around 160 pounds.
    Police said Ritz was last seen wearing khaki pants, a red plaid flannel shirt, a Lakers baseball cap, and black tennis shoes. He has several tattoos, including "HATE" on his right knuckles and "LOVE" on his left knuckles.
    It was believed that Ritz may had been living in his vehicle, which is a matte-black 1999 Toyota 4Runner SUV with Oregon license 716GPE. Previously, police said the license plate was CK65017, but officers later updated the information.
    Ritz was known to frequent St. Johns, Sauvie Island, and Scappoose, according to law enforcement.
    =============

    42 years in law enforcement and never enough time and resources to devote to these cases. We donate quietly just because you and the team are indispensable and you carry yourselves with the highest professional standards. Thanks to all the loved ones at home who do without you guys when you are doing this for others.

    Obviously to save on a lot of heartache cameras need to be installed at the boat ramps along rivers. It's just incredible how many vehicles are hidden under water and how many have dead bodies in them.

    "My dive team isn't going to take the time to use your lift bags, it doesn't matter how much damage we cause" I'm sorry but if that doesn't show you the difference between AWP and law enforcement,.. I don't know what will,.. Thank you AWP for being the real professionals these heartbroken families need 🖤 Sending you all love, hugs, and kisses! Stay safe out there!

    I am continually amazed at how little respect you gentlemen get from local agencies that are called in to finish the job. Your expertise, your professionalism, all demonstrate your desire to help and your compassion for others. But instead, they act as if you’re amateurs that don’t know anything. How can SSOOOO many ppl be so conceited?

    I’m a Fire Fighter/EMT/RESCUE DIVER of more than 30 years of service, there’s nothing more satisfying than returning/retrieving a lost member of a family. There’s no greater gift to their family members that this. I’ve recovered more than 3 dozen losses and have seen my fair share of gratification from the families. Great job by Jared and his entire team!!! Where can I make donations to? Have you reached out to scuba gear, sonar & marine companies for sponsorship, endorsements or grants of above equipment? There’s a lot of used Rescue and/or Dive Rescue trucks out there that they could grant you. Keep up the great work you do.

    That vehicle coming out of the water with "Love" written against a sunset really had something poetic. I hope the family finds closure and doesn't doubt that he loved them.

Bless you, I pray for your salvation. I encourage people to support you and your team. They need to plod along as well. Bless them.

    I love you all for what you do! My cousin committed suicide this year in his divers suit & was found thankfully quickly. He drove his car into the water in outer sound. He suffered from addiction & depression as well as suicidal thoughts. I’m thankful for people like you we were lucky to find him right away and it just gives merit to why it’s so important to have teams like yours available. I think less cases would be solved without you all. I’m so sad for my cousin Rest In Peace Brett, I wish those who suffer could hold on a little more as i know that feeling all to well in my every day life I wish I was there to be a lending ear, I am eternally greatful for your services ! & personally I’ve never had n encounter with you but I know who to turn to in situations such as this 💜
