As a beginner in the game, without rangefinder stuffs, binocular and bow sight, highly recommended to download the shooting range and practise with the bow as much as you can, and if you are good with different distances (I would say up to 50m) you can hunt with bows well.

How to be a pro: Buy all dlcs for 100$ and you can have normal equipment
Can get them all on sale now on PS5 like £1-3 each

if you play on pc you can just download dlc files and put them in you game files and have them all

Just got an achievement where I killed a Plains Bison with a Long bow with one shot with a class nine arrow, not to mention I try that out with a Black Bear and got it with one shot at Silver Ridge Peaks I'm proud of myself.
shot a puma using the beginner gun and i got a diamond trophy! it was my first puma kill in Parque Fernando
Heh. I shot a charging moose through the face with a 700gm broad tip arrow from the 70lb Chinese bow. The arrow went literally all the way through it’s body, penetrating every organ along its spine, and poked out its butt.
The penetration with arrows is incredible.And with their quietness, animals aren’t spooked immediately and you can often get a second shot off.
in my humble opinion and not too much experience with the bow (15000 archery score) shots at 60m is the absolute maximum you should go for. preferebly 40m or closer because the wind wont affect the arrow and the arrow wont drop+no power loss= always a kill if you hit vitals ofc

for me i could hit geese and ducks from 60 meters but the moment i need to shoot at a deer no matter where i aim i miss
This game is a little bit broken because I use the bear lite with the bright sight range finder bow sight, and I have the wind direction ability equipped, and only so far on the Yukon map where I’m hunting Bison near rustling ridge on the nearest lake towards the safe house or outpost whatever you call it. My arrows literally go through the Bison, and I know they should hit because I’ve hit a lynx from 111 meters away with 11 m/s wind speeds. I’ve hit plenty of bears, moose, deer, goats, bison from 100+ meters away even fox and birds, but sometimes when I take my shots here specifically I have everything aimed as it should be like all my other shots and I miss every single shot, and I’m aiming for their lungs literally one of the biggest hit points in all of the game. It usually gets fixed when I fast travel back to the outpost and comeback to the area.
if you are a beginner try the signal pin it is better
I find it weird that they didn’t give you early access to New Zealand just because you critiqued the game a little
I wanted to try bows so I spent 28,000 to reset my perks to archery not realising I would lose my rang finder thing now im stuck at pin point 60m and only the stock compound bow sight its so hard to judge where to aim when they are closer then 60m gotta earn 28k to reset

Hey Risky, is there a reference chart as to how wide to adjust aim for wind direction, I've been doing a lot of crossbow hunts, and I've noticed alot that stance will change the trajectory of your shots as well ie, crouching while aiming center lung will almost always recoil closer to spine
the fact is that i just started bow hunting but i can t buy a sight because it requires bow points, so i gotta get to 250 bow points without a sight which is almost impossible for me

Shoot with the wind? Unless using scent eliminator decent lvl animals will smell you a mile off. Best to keep the wind in your face.

Shooting an animal in the spine is one of the most cruel things you can do.
How do you get close to animals, though? It seems like I can only get within about 50m at best, if I'm really lucky. That's with crouched pose and being upwind. I can do it with treestands and callers, but not on the ground.

This bowsight has been really ticking me off lately. I'm level 44 and that that setup just rarely works for me. They always run. If they are walking at 5m I always miss. Super annoying so I've just been rage killing does with my 454 rhino lol.

Ngl I absolutely hate that sight bc it’s not accurate I even spent an hour using it at a shooting range and it is nvr accurate for me and shoots to low so I just use a regular sight and base it off of the map distance
Idk how to aim though.....with a normal bow so this didn't really help lmao. You did help me realize what the green thing was on the compass though.

Can anyone tell me how to adjust the distance on the brightsight rangefinder without having to stand up I'm playing on the ps5 every time I kneel down and try to adjust the distance it makes me stand up can someone help with this.

Just go to your inventory with the sight you wanna put on and throw it on the bow. Just like you would do a rifle or anything

Not trying to be a douche, but in case anyone here hasn't yet harvested their first animal in real life, nailing game in the spine is not realistically a great shot. You'll have to cap it when you reach the creature, it'll usually make a horrible fuss until you do, and an injured (yes, even half-paralyzed) animal is always dangerous and unpredictable. You're also likely going to ruin part of the backstrap and possibly loin with either the bullet itself or shards of vertebrae. Also, the time it takes you to reach the animal and finish it off allows plenty of time for the thing's adrenaline to pump through its while system, further degrading the quality of the meat.
Unless you're trophy hunting, but then it's still a difficult shot to pull off and if you miss just a little, you've very likely to do no damage whatsoever to vital organs so it's just a much better choice to aim dang near anywhere else.

@@Razor_18 if you wanna drop it? Heart. If you want to take it down but not drop it necessarily? Lungs are a go to.
You can also drop some animals with some weapons shooting lungs

Irl a spine shot is bad if u think it’s good u should not go hunting because a spine shot doesn’t kill the animal it just paralyzes it
