Yes. If I ever learn that pitch correction software was used for her live performances then there's gonna be some fightin'.. Especially since I just et some sawmill gravy, biscuits and buttermilk.
@@alwaysflushinpublic this sounds almost definitely pitch corrected to me. listen the note she hits at 36 seconds. Sounds snapped to the pitch and unnaturally precise.
I understand that this is an early American song, probably from the Second Awakening. It touches me which is strange since I am an atheist. I am always amazed at how music affects us at such a primal level.
Im an atheist too, but dont frown on folk having a belief in the hearafter. True, religion has caused many conflicts but also some magnificent music and art. Such is the nature of humanity.
@@swesleyc7 Hhhhm, she's the best talented person, but perhaps the best was the slaves how originally created and sang it touched the fathers heart the most. Thank you Alison dear, simply the most beautifully sang of any body, opened this first thing, suffering in body, you encourage me. That is love at it's grandest!
At some point in the 1990s, I witnessed them singing this song at the Ryman without microphones or amplification. They just sat on the stairs in front of the stage. An incredible moment.
We were in the VIP seats for this show...truly an angel singing! They did this song twice, she said she didn't like the way the first one sounded...to me it was double pleasure!!
I never get tired of listening to Alison Krauss. This is what talent sounds like....no need for exposing a lot of skin, lip syncing, and skanking around the stage like Beyo....never mind.
Well, if you don't believe some people are "blessed" with talent, you are not paying attention. That literally gave me goose bumps and made my spine shiver. Absolutely perfect and beautiful. Literally SMH over that version. Wow!
Oh God thank you. This voice is one of the most angelic things. I can never watch this scene in o brother cause it makes me literally weep. God is so so good.
Really the perfect baptism song. She calls every one of us down. Who isn't a brother or sister, mother or father? More importantly, who is not a sinner? None are left out.
Love this song makes me think of my friends who I lost this year in a bad car wreck I lost 4 amazing friends who I miss a lot 3 was siblings and the other was there best friend I miss them Like crazy I never want to go to another funeral like that ever again in my life :(
Why take this as an occasion to criticize others? Yes it is very lovely, and there is a lot that misses that mark, but this is not such a lovely comment, IMO.
And exactly how many instruments do you play? Are you familiar with the cycle of fifths? Can you find middle C on a keyboard? Or sing a 440 A from memory alone? Or transpose any notes on a staff? No? Then Keep your opinions on what is and is not music to yourself.
Stop gatekeeping. Music has many facest and comes in many different forms. Just because YOU don't like soemthing doesn't make it any less of music. Plus there also tons of different radio channels which play everyhting that you can imagine and even more. Boomer.
I remember seeing Allison Krauss in Greenville, SC at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts in early 2000's. My wife was not feeling good so I invited a friend. It was cold and snowy. The concert exceeded my expectations. Allison's voice was as prefect as any other artist I can remember. Great humor too! Truely a great tallent!
When Allison sings, I stop everything I'm doing. Her voice is amazing and she is so very very talented. A year ago I made the above comment and didn't mention how gorgeous Allison is. The band is really great.
I've heard many recordings of this song by AKUS; I consider this one to be best. Barry Bales is miked separately so that his extraordinary voice is not damped by the filters on the other mic, and the resulting harmonics are what make a capella singing a joy to hear. I wish the band would occasionally spotlight THAT voice as well; it seems to go unremarked most of the time, and that's a shame! Beautiful work, consummate musicians in every sense of the word.
I listen all the time to her music with Union Station. MY FAVORITE TAPE IS THE LINE CONCERT IN LOUISVILLE KY. Used Go down to the river and pray in a Bible study the other night. The suggestion was in the leaders manual, wish I could have shown the clip from the movie.
I honestly think she could do an AMAZING a capella version of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" If she ever covered it. I also didn't realize this was recorded in my hometown!
Alison Krauss and Tom Waits have polar opposite voices, yet both are beautiful. (Not that Tom featured in this but just an example of the spectrum of voices)
Just beautiful. No electronics here. Just pure talent.

We Played this at my granddaughter's funeral on Tues of this week. She loved Alison Krauss.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss 💜😇
She’s what I imagine an actual angel would sound like
Agree!!
Me too!
She's as good as mere mortals can get. From actual angels I expect polyphony ;)
i thought his the first time i ever heard her
I mean i just don’t understand how it could possibly even get better. And she makes it look absolutely effortless
I understand that this is an early American song, probably from the Second Awakening. It touches me which is strange since I am an atheist. I am always amazed at how music affects us at such a primal level.
This is morethan music. Its worshipful to the most high God. Bless you!
I'm an Atheist also, but when Allison sings I think to myself she might be proof of divine creation.
The Holy Spirit reaching out to you!

She has a fantastic voice!!!
Still here in 2024 ❤
The true Voice of An Angel ❤.
The best version of the most Angelic sound ever created
I was wondering, is Alison the best person to have ever sang this song?

Slaves didn't write this song. You don't know what you're talking about! Philip Lawson and George Clooney wrote it lol
It's much better at this slower pace.
At some point in the 1990s, I witnessed them singing this song at the Ryman without microphones or amplification. They just sat on the stairs in front of the stage. An incredible moment.
Wow.😊
Allison Krause has it all. Beautiful looks, beautiful voive, and can play multiple musical intruments.
American the beautiful, the Christians of the loving U.S.A makes some extremely anointed Gospel music, love u

I‘m an Agnostic, but each time I listen to that song (esp.sung by Allison) I feel touched by my inner soul!
God blessed Alison with a beautiful, sincere voice.
This song always brings me to tears.
Absolutely love her. 😢

What a talent this girl is. The boys are pretty special too and combined, thank you!!!
Her voice is fantastic! Singing with no music! She can do it all! Wonderful artist. I am in awe. :-)
Alison sings like the good old days of folk music.
I'm in tears now! So so powerful!
Oh God thank you. This voice is one of the most angelic things. I can never watch this scene in o brother cause it makes me literally weep. God is so so good.
My God she has a haunting voice, beautiful Lady.
Alison has an amazing and beautiful soul and most of all voice. Definitely an angel singing.
This song is so emotional, i love this song so much.
What is it about 'A Capella' singing that drives me to tears?
Thank you Allison. Thank you, Company. ☺️
The most beautiful, clear voice alive today.
Really the perfect baptism song. She calls every one of us down. Who isn't a brother or sister, mother or father? More importantly, who is not a sinner? None are left out.
She is humble. Her voice is that of an Angel... THANK YOU JESUS for ALLISON.

Alison krauss is a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice and a beautiful accent.
I saw Alison Krauss perform this a couple of summers ago at Chautauqua Institution and she sounded just as good as she did in this video.
Such an angelic voice. God bless you Alison

A lot that misses the mark? Lol I would love to hear the garbage on the radio try and do that acapella
What is a "radio"?

I'd pay fifty bux just to hear them sing the phone book
Oh yesssss, puleaze, sing all phone books available.I will listen eternally.
Daniel Gabalski they could probably sing it to the tune of Down to the River to Pray.
Screw the phone book, I would pay 100 to hear her sing the dictionary.

She is wonderful. From Austin City Limits. Her band of gold. Two the others in the quartet were Dan Tominsky and Ron Block.
Breathtaking absolutely breathtaking they are😇😇😇😇
In these troubled times, it helps me decide which side of the fence I stand. It is with the older religion.
The Lord always shos the way.
