I love this James Taylor song. He wrote it when his father after a phone call for help drove all the way to New York to bring James home so he could deal with his drug addiction. Everytime I hear this song I am reminded that a father's love is the most precious thing. If not the world might have lost one of the best troubadours of our time. I love this version. Alison Krauss has one of the most gorgeous crystal clear voices ever.
Thank you for writing of the love of fathers. Much has been written about the love of mothers, but a father's love is deep and powerful, too. It is unique, individual and devoted in ways that are difficult to put into words. A father may be a person of few words, but his connection to his children is often more precious than his own life. Fathers are often misunderstood because they are not often as open about their love for their children as are mothers. Perhaps that is a common fault,.but this story about James Taylor's father speaks volumes about the connection of love he felt with his son.
Man.....that is some kinda perfect voice. Wow. I always loved this song by James Taylor - but her voice takes this thing to an entirely different level. Just beautiful.
I got a friend who did lots of recording at a music studio near Nashville. One of the engineers used to make fun of some of the well-known artists and their reliance on autotune or they'd sound like screeching kids. My buddy asked which artists never need autotune. He replied without hesitation: Alison Krauss. I've seen her 3 times -- twice in Nashville with Union Station and once in Chattanooga with Tony Rice and she knocked us dead every time, but she never sang this song :(
One detail many miss about Alison is that she is a fiddle player. This means her ear is extremely well developed and this does play a significant role in her ability to sing phrases of music completely in tune. I have noted this with every string player I know who also sings.
❤She’s the greatest I’ve ever heard in my entire life, ALLISON KRAUSE is a beautiful angel❤and I live right on Morgan creek, off of old lystra, James, if you’re reading, you know I’m by your bridge. ❤
Alison, my father just adored you. You made him so proud. His name was Danne Buchanan, and his best friend was John Gantz. Thank you for your beautiful music which I have passed down to my kids. I was lucky to grow-up as the daughter of a bluegrass picker. Your music reminds me of that gift. Bless you, dear Alison.
I bought one of Alison's CD"s and I woke my daughter super early and went for an early morning, Mommy Daughter Day, and we both sang every song as loud as we could. Had a To-go breakfast and lunch while talked and listened to Allison's CD. One of our Together Memories. Still makes my heart feel good and cry because my daughter "Elizabeth" is grown and we can't do it again, she is making memories with her own kids now.
This is one of my absolute, all-time, closest to my heart, favourite recordings and rendition of this gorgeous song. Although it was recorded 13 years ago, I just keep coming back to it. Absolute perfection.
@@letinhsong8024 I did hear James Taylor sing this song while at the Saratoga Springs performing arts center (SPAC) NY and it was good but I do think Alison's version here is better. Now, nobody could or even should try to cover 'Fire and Rain' because that is just too personal a song and means so much to himself.
Alison Krauss has a voice like no other and can really play a fiddle like nobody's business. However the sensibility with which she sings and plays and makes her song choices are remarkable as well. This song and her voice are a perfect fit.
I can literally never hear Jerry Douglas play without being joyously happy. And can we just take a moment to shout out to Alison Krauss's chops as a fiddler too? There's a whole lot of "songstresses," particularly in country, who never pick up an instrument again once they make it as a vocalist. Alison just gets better and better as a singer and an instrumentalist. This is one of my favourite James Taylor songs and I've fallen in love with it all over again.
There may be a few more artists out there who have done covers of James Taylor's work but, are any of them in the same league as this Alison Krauss & Jerry Douglas cover? Simply beautiful.
Nope..a fluke of nature and Alison herself who worked hard on cultivating the beauty of her voice. No imaginary characters took part in creating these vocals.
Mum had dementia. Allison's music made her smile right up until the end. Six months gone now and today is the first time I have been able to listen to this. God, I miss mum so much but I thank God for allowing me to know her. X

@Alison Krauss I bought a dvd of Oh Brother, where art thou recently. I suspect that was useful to your fabulous career!
God bless you Alison!

Best cover of Carolina In My Mind
This lady is so obviously one of the finest singers on Earth. Nobody does it like her.
Can't you just listen to this everyday, such a beautiful voice and she carries her like a lady should.
I try to. Beautiful. Just beautiful. You can lay back, take a deep breath, close your eyes and your whole body relaxes.
She's country and bluegrass and the voice and the face of an angel
This is one of my absolute, all-time, closest to my heart, favourite recordings and rendition of this gorgeous song. Although it was recorded 13 years ago, I just keep coming back to it. Absolute perfection.
Good music is like a fine wine it will only improve and mellow with the passing of time, just enjoy.
Her voice is just beautiful.
I CAN NOT see where Anyone can find fault in this performance; they must be haters of all things beautiful!!!
The “fault” is not necessarily with the performance. It’s the audio and especially the video recording. It’s awful!
If you are listening to this at 3:00 AM You have faith in God
EXACTLY
I kinda wanted her to speed up just a tad. But I'm not hatin' on her.
Huh?
8 people need to get their hearing aids checked out! This is one of the greatest singers in the world!
You got that right!
Right on , Probably Democrats
Couldn't agree more, definitely Republicans!
those 8 people probably believe the earth is flat and women working the midnight shift gives them breast cancer............
Maybe their parents were anti vaxxers and their hearing is bad.
One of the most talented singers ever! Such a pure voice - such clarity.
Glad to see people are still listening to her songs. Voice of angels
She sings like an angel!
She is an angel.
And I'm her guardian Angel!
💡
SHE SURE DOES..GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS EVERYTIME!!!!
Those of us that are fans won't be surprised when we get to Heaven and Allison is standing at the Pearly Gates welcoming everyone
How rare to hear an all-time great song and think that the cover is as good or even better.
Simply gorgeous!
Exactly my thinking when I first saw this piece....

ME 2 !!!
Agree!!!!!
Union Station with Jerry Douglas, what a truly wonderful band. Alison takes us to heaven.
I sure appreciate the classy ladies whose talents do not require jumping around in skimpy attire in attempts to appease the ‘star making machinery’
Amen to that! Just think if we could get Dolly, Patsy Cline, Alison and Loretta Lynn on stage together... WHOOP! YEE HAW!
That would be awesome!
@@jeffcotton526 and Emmylou, too.
@Alison Krauss no thanks. The REAL Alison Krause wouldn't solicit online. Do you think we were born yesterday?
@Alison Krauss trying to troll some other sucker hey "Alison".You wish.
@Alison Krauss your a troll piss off.
More musical talent could not be found in one person than there is in Alison Krauss.
This lady is amazing.
Allison's voice is so clear and pure, I could listen to her for hours!! Love her fiddle playing as well.
like this 100 times better with JT singing it.
Alison Krauss is very good however Judith Durham of The Seekers also very good and there's nobody can belt out a tune like Linda Ronstadt
Goddamn...what a woman!
Holy hell...brings a grown man to tears.
I’m not religious, but spiritual. Allison’s voice was touched by the angels! Prove me wrong
My gosh what a beautiful woman. The voice, soul first of all. Yes she is very pretty.
I'm convinced Alison is an Angel from Heaven. For sure. She's a Goddess.🙏🏻❤️🤠
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you on here.
Her voice is effortless pure talent!
They call me "The Carolina Rambler" and I'm headed home with this big truck. Been out here 51 years but Carolina stays in my mind.
Truckers are the unsung heroes of our supply chains. Thank you, Eagle One!
This Carolina woman hopes you made it home and Many Thanks to You!
God Bless you brother! It's a life a sacrifice. Thank you. Stay safe.
There may be a few more artists out there who have done covers of James Taylor's work but, are any of them in the same league as this Alison Krauss & Jerry Douglas cover? Simply beautiful.
I wonder if she knows how great she is? She and Karen Carpenter are the best female voices. IMHO
There's more than one person in the word with the name Alison Krauss. Just saying.
WAYA WOLF YOU ARE WRONG WRONG WRONG!! #3 Alison #2 Karen.... and #1is EVA CASSIDY THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!
@Alison Krauss hi. Saw you on youtube. Is this really you? You are amazing. Were can my wife is and I next see you in person?
What a gift from God. Thank you Lord
Amen
Nope..a fluke of nature and Alison herself who worked hard on cultivating the beauty of her voice. No imaginary characters took part in creating these vocals.
@@reddragonready You, sir, are a jerk.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!
When he wrote this song so many years ago..
sweet baby James could have never imagined it being brought back to him like this.
So beautiful
Just so pretty. Masterful.
Mum had dementia. Allison's music made her smile right up until the end. Six months gone now and today is the first time I have been able to listen to this. God, I miss mum so much but I thank God for allowing me to know her. X
Hope you doing ok now. It’s tough battle
I lost my Mum a few years ago and there were a few tunes I couldnt listen too ... I do now .. some I cry at some I laugh with ... and yes I thank god or whoever that I had her in my life...xxx
I love James Taylor's music and usually don't like covers. But this is off the charts. Outstanding. Take a bow. Your voice is nothing short of majestic.
Just like an Angel!!!
Never get tired of hearing this joyous, beautiful song by JT, sung like only Ms. Krauss would sing it.
Alison has the most beautiful voice ever, I've seen her over 100 time's with so much talent surrounding her, always a class act and always growing !
