@Htrac "Just any live folk music," I think not. This particular song touched my soul by the way it was sung. If the song was sung by another artist, it wouldn't have the same feeling.
One of the most beautiful things about bluegrass music is that there’s never really a “lead singer.” Everybody takes turns and harmonizes with each other. There’s never really a “lead guitar” either - everybody gets their own solo.
My future wife walked up to me next to the Suwanee river minutes before we married while this song played. You're rendition wets my eyes. I'm gonna go hug my wife.
I was adopted, I found out later in life that my biological family are popular evangelical singing performers. I mostly missed the boat with the talent that they have in them .... however, I sang this song most nights to the 3 children I raised alone. This rendition absolutely brings tears to my eyes. The great Allison Krauss and her band introduced this song to me during the Soggy Bottom Boys/Oh Brother Where Aren't Thou craze. It was my go to.. I sang this song most nights and my children (now late 20's) still, to this day remember this song I sang with my ♥. I am so proud of this talented family. I can hardly listen to them without getting emotional! BRAVO!
I’m not either, and end up listening to a huge variety of worldwide religious music. All of it moves me. I think what will grow out of the ashes of this currently burning world will be a heightened spiritual attitude- not so much 1 religion, rather a mutual respect for each others beliefs while we walk our own path with integrity, responsibility, and compassion
Yes each sister has a beautiful voice. Julienne's voice is the most distinctive, Katies is the most traditional and Ellen's is the softest and sweetest. A+ for all
Being from Nashville (born, raised and still here) it it so refreshing to hear honest folk music. Thank you for this. I miss this sound so much. I genuinely grew up listening this style of country/gospel. It brightens my soul to know that this style is still alive and well. Sing on!
I just attended your concert in Branson (28 July) with my son and my elderly uncle. I did not have time to participate in the meet and greet afterwards. However, I wanted you to know that the concert was wonderful and your music gives me much joy and comfort. I am also a retired Combat Arms Army officer and appreciate your recognition of veterans. As a pastor, I appreciate your Christian demeanor and wholesome behavior. God Bless you and your work!
I remember when I heard this song in the Hey brother where art though movie I was hooked... Such a beautiful song and the harmony fantastic.... Now hearing this song covered by the Petersens!!! Can't get any better
I never saw the movie but I did come across it on TH-cam music and saw the movie cover was the thumbnail used for the song. And Idk how I didn't see this one coming considering it's an Allison Krauss song. I know they grew up listening to her music so the fact they caught me off guard with this song makes me feel disappointed in myself
The Peterson family show people the positiveness of having faith in Christ . They are good witnesses to Gods great way. This song is about Baptism confirming the individual persons faith , love and commitment to Christ . Its wonderful.
My daughter was ready to be baptized but waited until summer so she could be baptized in the river. She wanted to honor her grandmother who was baptized the same way. She played this on the way there and home.
I'm not a religious person but these harmonies are indeed heavenly. Julieanne's voice is sweet and winsome, Ellen's is earthy and strong, Katie's is soft and soulful. The guys and mom are great but these three lovely young women are the beating heart of the Petersen's.
Besides being just beautifully sung by this very talented family, this music conveys a set of values that is disappearing from our country right now. God, family, community is what America needs so urgently. Thank you for sharing not just a beautiful song, but a beautiful ethic, with us. God bless you.
All three young ladies have distinct voices Ellen has the power voice , Julianne has a lyrical voice (look up Gordon Lightfoot) and Katie voice sounds like a soft summer rain, separately they all have beautiful voices but when they sing together well it's magical
Well said. I like how you describe Julianne's voice, that's exactly it. I especially like how Katie will sing high at times to complement Julianne's voice: th-cam.com/video/v2nKjuuMzCg/w-d-xo.html. Katie is definitely a creative genius like Emmett.
First of all, I wanted to emphasize that, this time, the musical basis is given by only three instruments: dobro, guitar and double bass. But these three instruments, and the professionalism of those who play them, accompany the singing with an absolute sweetness that reaches perfection. Then the voices of Katie, Ellen and Julianne, each one with her different and particular timbre, as it is even more than other times, reach incredible sonorities. Both alone and in harmonizations, they manage to convey that atmosphere of beauty and purity that the same song (of Baptism) inspires. Once again I got really moved. Thanks. Roberto 🙏❤ P.S. The final scene of the three girls crossing the stream barefoot is also very beautiful and completes the video perfectly.
@@gianfrancoperticone7373 Ciao Gianfranco. È proprio vero non smettono mai di stupirci. Passano dai classici dei Beatles a questi brani gospel con una facilità che ha quasi dell'incredibile. Absolutely beautiful...this was my brother's favorite movie of all time.....he passed in 2016....and every time I hear the beautiful songs from this soundtrack I know its his way of saying hello....that he is still here with me in spirit. Thank you so much. ❤
Such added blessings to our journey in the Lord. As my wife and I listen in the mornings, it helps her in her severe fight against Parkinson's, and as my role as her caretaker. May the Lord contuse to bless your ministry and family, Awesome music Petersen's.
i was watching a movie from the year 2000 called "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and 15 mins in this played, i had to pause the movie and look this up. it was truly a good find.
This is so appropriate to deliver a message to Christians that for something important with time constraints even if beautifully sung, Christians and all folk need to help each other and only then pray about guidance. So I keep listening to your fantastic three-part delivery of a song that I had always respected at church. The message can not be delivered so much nearly perfectly sung. Now the Petersens have the best presentation of "Down to the River to Pray" that I could imagine and the symbolism in the song is good for all Christians and others to hear and to contemplate upon. I am pleased to learn all your talent listed on most every video will stick with the group at least for the near future to pursue your chosen various ways to evangelize as well as entertain as well as rightfully enrich yourselves as all who keep coming back keep coming for the well performed and well arranged music and singing arrangements so enjoyable to all of us. Y'all are a treasure to all who get to be entertained as well as instructed in some songs by your top-notch presentations.
Red, White and Blue! Beautiful singing ladies.👏👏👏 You've done it before but with this performance I think it's safe to say we definitely have a new Trio now. You've really made this one your own. The changes compared to other versions are very nice. I love your intonation of 'Show me the way' and then with somewhat more emphasis 'Show us the way'. Thanks so much for this.
I used to sing with my brother. Our voices were close enough to make us sound harmonically wonderful. These sisters have that ability. When they sing together, it's as if their voices mingle and are cuddling. Thank you for sharing with the world.
Amazing rendition. The harmony is on point, but the bass is underestimated IMO. I love it. I wasn't a Christian until 2021, even though I grew up with a Baptist preacher for a father, and it took so long to actually accept Jesus as my Savior and Lord. Praise be to God!!
These 2 and 3 part harmonies from the gals are just beautiful. It doesn't get any more pure than this. I so amazed at their talent

There is something about standing in the river, let it wash over my feet and listen to this masterpiece. It's so calming in hardtime I am going through right now. Bless you all. ❤️
I am a sinner, I went down to the river to pray that u girls and the rest of the Petersens continue to bless us with these absolutely amazing performances, thanks àgain 😍😘
Yes, Petersen sisters are like the ancient Muses. Really angelic voices and best skills with different instruments. Greetings from Italy. Gianfranco 🇮🇹♥️
Just heard her for the first time, really seems like Julianna's voice is somehow influenced by an Irish accent, sounds a bit like Janet Devlin: how does one acquire that?! - j q t -
I grew up mainly on mainstream 80s / 90s rock n roll, pop, etc., and only liked a few country songs here or there, but now you gals got me shocked at how I love every dang one of your videos. 😄 STOP IT! STOP BEING SO GOOD! 😄
I have always loved Alison Krauss and this is one of her signature songs, but I have to say I love this version by the 3 super-talented, wonderful and genuinely sweet Petersen sisters the most of all!
Listening to this song for probably the 50th time it occured to me that some people who are cynical would say that you are doing a good job of "selling" this song with sincerety. But what you are doing is an incredible of "living" this song in every look, every nuance and expression! People are being saved with your music, of that I have no doubt!
I just got back from being at a Christian camp as a cabin Dad for a week where I didn't have access to the internet, and this is the first song I keyed up after I got back! Couldn't wait to hear it again! Beautiful song in every way. Love it!!
I've been waiting for this one to get on TH-cam. It has been my favorite song that they have been playing this season at the little opry Now I’ll be listening to it every day like every other Petersen song. Wow they're singing this masterpiece at my favorite spot too Love the Ozark Mill and enjoyed hearing the Finley river in the background.
While the solos of Katie, Ellen and Julianne are perfect, when the three of them sing in harmony, it is fantastic. Their harmony is greater than the sum of their individual voices. Like so much in life, we are stronger when we work together and in harmony with family and friends!
I've only watched a few of their videos, so I would assume Julianne is the young lady in the white shirt. I think her voice is my favorite out of the 3, even though she is shy and seems to hold back. I love the yodel in her voice
This harmony of voices is so beautiful, it's like honey for the ears. I get the message, I go down to the river to pray. May God bless you (from france)🙌
How lovely to listen to this beautiful rendition as I have my morning coffee in the garden in London. I always look forward most to your new offerings in my TH-cam feed. Thank you🥰🌷!
Love this song! So glad yall covered it! Not one I was expecting but yall executed beautifully as always! Also, I drove from my home town of Lewistown, PA to El Paso, TX during my PCS leave, and the entire drive down, I listened mostly to your beautiful music. I'm going on leave again tomorrow and once again driving 2,000 miles, so yall chose the perfect time to release a new song for me to play on repeat for at least a few hours of my drive! God bless your family, yall are so amazing and your music is always so uplifting. Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world. Also I just want to say it was a bit strange seeing Ellen, Katie and Julianne without their instruments but I feel like the lack of instrumentation actually helped add to the beauty of this cover because it allowed those incredible voices to shine without being covered or overpowered by loud strings, especially Ellen's banjo. It's a cool instrument but, especially with Julianne's soft voice, it can sometimes be a bit much in terms of volume I guess you could say

I have an eclectic taste in music but this song has remained one of my favourites for many years. Thank you for bringing your style, class and beauty to this rendition. It’s now one of my favourite versions of one of my favourite songs ❤
I have already told, you carry me up and down in the time, it reminds me more or less at 12 yo when I l've heard for the first time. Go tell it to the mountains. Many thanks family ♥️ from Italy. Gianfranco.
The difference between the Petersens and other groups who sing this is that the Petersens sing it from conviction. That said however there rendition is absolutely beautiful. I would love them to visit Ireland again and maybe come north as well 😀.
I love you so much. This song is among my favorites, anyway, anything you sing becomes a favorite, a golden song. You are a Midas Band for music and your contribution to this Art is more important than one think for now.
Mr. Petersen, you are an abundantly blessed man. What a beautiful family you have. Your leadership and stewardship swells YHWH's heart and inspires many in our journey to walk ever closer with Him. Thank you for sharing these with the world.
I've been waiting, patiently, for your cover of this song....and I have been so rewarded! Beautiful....simply beautiful! Thank you! Take care, be safe and God bless!
Every time I think I’ve heard the most beautiful song by the Petersens they top it with another awesome song! God has blessed you and thank you for sharing His blessings with us.
*LYRICS - Down to the River to Pray*
------------
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way
O brothers, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O brothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show me the way
O sisters, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sisters, let's go down
Down in the river to pray
As I went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the starry crown
Good Lord, show me the way
O mothers, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O mothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray
Let's go down, let's go down [x4]
As we went down in the river to pray
Studying about that good ol' way
And who shall wear the robe and crown
Good Lord, show us the way
O sinners, let's go down
Let's go down, come on down
O sinners, let's go down
Down in the river to pray
O brothers, let's go down
Come on down, don't you wanna go down?
Come on brothers, let's go down
Down in the river to pray
Down in the river to pray [x2]

Thanks Liz!
Where is music like this? Not necessarily Christian music, but music in general. I love the tone, harmony, and style.
Just any live folk music. Although the Peterson's mellifluous voices are really something else.
@Htrac "Just any live folk music," I think not. This particular song touched my soul by the way it was sung. If the song was sung by another artist, it wouldn't have the same feeling.
Listen to the Dillards
This is bluegrass. Look up other bluegrass songs and you’ll find plenty.
Nashville! But southern folk, gospel, bluegrass is what you are looking for
One of the most beautiful things about bluegrass music is that there’s never really a “lead singer.” Everybody takes turns and harmonizes with each other. There’s never really a “lead guitar” either - everybody gets their own solo.
Especially with the Petersen’s, all take the lead in singing and in instrumentation from song to song.
Ellen, Julianna and Katie all have distinctive sounds to their voice and when you combine all three together sounds like angels singing.
Beautiful
Such diversity, yet harmony, like the Holy Trinity.
Totally agree.
Thank you beautiful harmony lifts my spirit high

I live in German, i love your kind to make music as family, this one IS a wonderful song...❤️...go on lovely Petersen Family!!!
I just love it when the three sisters sing together . They are sooo good . It gives me goosebumps every time . Thanks to all of you ! ✌
at 1'45, they sing first beautifully in canon, then take up the chorus together... So simple and so beautiful at the same time ! Mesmerizing!!!
I love these girls. You can see how much they love to sing. You can see it in there faces, in fact you can almost feel the love. Great job!
I just love seeing the way they enjoy playing beautiful music its so refreshinh
Thank you Petersens (&Emmet) Love you all dearly, constantly impressed by your musicianship and arranging.
The good, the true, and the beautiful. This is very inspiring. I could watch this every day.
I have already told, you carry me up and down in the time, it reminds me more or less at 12 yo when I l've heard for the first time. Go tell it to the mountains. Many thanks family ♥️ from Italy. Gianfranco.
They are all so beautiful, pure, and angelic, with heavenly voices.
Great choice of chords and arrangement. Lots of great tension and release. Best arrangement ever.
I love this song.... you guys are all amazing. I love that your Mom is always in watching she made all of this happen!!! 🙂
What an excellent version of this song. And, I'm glad nobody fell in the water, at the end.
I think it would've made the outro more entertaining
The Voices are heaven sent
Love the harmony
Every time I think I’ve heard the most beautiful song by the Petersens they top it with another awesome song! God has blessed you and thank you for sharing His blessings with us.
